Coronado is a village off the coast of San Diego, California. The Coronado Shores is a luxury gated community on Coronado Beach, between the Pacific Ocean and the San Diego Bay, next to the Hotel Del Coronado and nine miles from the San Diego airport. Coronado Beach has been rated as the number one family beach in the USA. Many well-known individuals own Shores condos including Senator John and Cindy McCain.

Our two-bedroom/two-bath condo is a corner unit in the El Camino Building in the Shores complex. Our unit offers floor-to-ceiling windows with views of both San Diego Bay/Bridge and the Coronado Beach/Pacific Ocean. Our condo has been upgraded and completely decorated by Coronado's best known interior decorator Michele Iacuzzo (google "Interiors by Michele").

The kitchen is fully equipped, and includes a disposal and new dishwasher. The glass-topped circular dining room table and chairs seat six.

There are two bathrooms, one with walk-in shower, one with bathtub/shower. Both bathrooms were completely renovated in 2011.

There are two bedrooms. The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and large walk-in closet. The bedroom has a new California king bed with a Sleep Therapy Aloe Vera pillow-top mattress, a work desk and a comfortable reading chair. The second bedroom has a king bed that is convertible to twin beds with Sleep Therapy pillow mattresses, and a comfortable reading chair. Both bedrooms have flat-screen TVs with DVD players. The living room sofa also converts to a queen-sized hideabed if you have overnight guests.

There are three flat-screen, high-definition LCD TVs in the condo: 37" (living room), 32" (master bedroom) and 22" (second bedroom). DVD players are attached to all three TVs. DISH satellite TV (including Sirius Radio) is available on all three TVs. The living room TV has a brand-new top-of-the-line DISH VIP722 Digital Video Recorder (DVR), so you can record over 300 hours of TV programs, with a monthly subscription to all the DISH high definition TV stations (over 70 stations). Watch an unlimited number of movies for FREE using our new NETFLIX condo account and ROKU Player.

For those who want to mix work with play, our condo is set up with two desks, chairs, reading lamps, and powerbars. Our condo also has the highest-speed AT&T/SBC DSL wired/wireless Internet access available in the Coronado Shores. Free local and long distance telephone service throughout the United States and Canada is also included via our condo's own SKYPE account. Our unit is completely stocked with dishes, bedding, towels, beach towels, hairdryers, binoculars, maps, games, DVDs, books, San Diego guidebooks, etc. There are four regularly updated binders of information in the condo, on (1) the Coronado Shores, (2) local attractions, (3) local activities, and (4) local dining.

There is a commercial washer and dryer on each floor; we also have a very small washer/dryer combo in our unit. There are two elevators plus rapid access to the beach via a secure stairwell. Our balcony has a new marble floor, plexiglass walls and patio furniture. We have one designated parking spot.

We are told regularly that our unit is one of the choicest condo rentals because our unit was decorated by Michele Iacuzzo, our beach access is exceptionally easy, and our bay/beach views are among the best at the Shores. We also have flat screen high-definition TVs, the newest DISH DVR and high-definition TV channels, the fastest available wired/wireless internet access, and free streaming of NETFLIX movies. There are no other condo buildings close to us so we do not have people looking directly in at our condo. Lastly, we are not full-time landlords doing this for the rental income. We are university professors renting our condo while we teach in Texas. We are selective, looking for renters who will treat our condo as gently as their own home.

Permissions: No Smoking and No Pets (with no exceptions; we have allergies so do not allow them in our condo). Our condo is NOT child-proofed and not suitable for young children due to the extensive glass, electronics, white linens, etc.

Maximum number of renters in our condo at any one time is limited to FOUR PERSONS.

MINIMUM RENTAL PERIOD: MONTH TO MONTH RENTALS ONLY. No one can rent for less than 28 days by City of Coronado law and Coronado Shores Condo Owners Association Bylaws. You can stay for a shorter period (at the monthly rate), but you cannot rent by day or by the week, only by the month. Any one who attempts to rent to you for a shorter period is 99% probability engaged in a rental scam so buyer beware!

ALL RENTALS START ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH AND END ON THE LAST DAY OF THE MONTH. Arrival time on the first day of the month is 3:00 PM. Departure time on the last day of the month is 10:00 AM. These are the normal start and end dates for the Coronado Shores complex.

ALL BOOKINGS MUST BE MADE THROUGH LORRAINE EDEN HERMANN OR CHARLES HERMANN IN COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS. DO NOT BOOK WITH ANYONE ELSE. WE ARE NOT LISTED ON CRAIGSLIST. We are listed on VRBO, VacationRentals, and HomeAway only.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

We are professors at Texas A&M University who rent out our condo for most of the year while we teach in Texas. Eventually, once we retire, we plan to spend the winters in College Station and the summers in Coronado, but until then, we mostly rent our place except for Thanksgiving and the winter break over New Years. We were married here, have made multiple trips to Coronado/San Diego, and bought our "pied à terre" in the Coronado Shores complex in 2005. We particularly like our condo because our building is right on the beach and we have a corner unit with windows on two sides, giving us both beach and bay views.

Why the Owner Chose Coronado

Chuck's brother was stationed in the Navy and returned to live in Coronado so Chuck has been coming out here since he was a teenager. We were married here (with our wedding reception at the Shores Roedder Pavilion) and have been visiting Coronado ourselves since the early 1990s. We decided to buy our own place, and were fortunate to do so, in early 2005.

We think of Coronado as a bit like Maui used to be in the 1950s (but a whole lot closer to Texas than Hawaii) - a small island village with unique colorful houses, flowers everywhere, and people outside walking and biking and enjoying themselves. We can leave the windows open day and night - no bugs - and enjoy the ocean breezes.

San Diego offers all the amenities of a world class city; Coronado the advantages of an island village community. We are Zoo members and love the theater, both the Old Globe and the La Jolla Playhouse. We enjoy exploring the hiking trails around San Diego (e.g. Sunrise Highway).

The Unique Benefits of this Condo

Relaxation - listening to the waves and spending time on the beach - enjoying the activities going on in Coronado and San Diego - jogging on the beach - photography - watching the Navy Seals. Local activities in Coronado include bicycling, bird watching, boogie boarding, concerts in the park, fishing, golfing, hiking, library, local theater, parks, restaurants, sandy beaches with lifeguards, sailing, surfing, swimming, tennis and windsurfing. There is even winter ice skating at the Hotel Del! Coronado has a beautiful 18-hole championship golf course, and the Glorietta Bay Marina is next door for sailors. There are bike trails around the island, including a 20-mile round trip Rails-to-Trails path that starts by our condo building. There is an excellent public library with a nice movie collection and free concerts in the park on Sundays. The Glorietta Bay Civic Center and Promenade is next door to us, with a new Community Center (huge pool) and park running along the bay. And, of course, you may just prefer to walk the beach and view the sunset. If you leave the island and go to San Diego, major attractions include Balboa Park, Scripps Birch Aquarium, Gas lamp Quarter, Legoland, Old Town San Diego, San Diego Museums, San Diego Zoo, Sea World and the Wild Animal Park. Some evenings, after a full day of sightseeing, we just relax and watch movies streamed instantly over our condo's own NETFLIX account. Welcome gifts for every rental.
