Dingle cottage description
This stone faced cottage has 360 degree views of the sea and surrounding mountains in the rural village of Dunquin on the Dingle Peninsula where 'Ryan's Daughter' and 'Far and Away' were filmed.
The cottage looks out to the Blasket Islands with Mt. Eagle behind.
The cottage is located on a quiet Cul De Sac off the 'Slea Head Drive'.
The fully fitted kitchen and utility contains all modern amenities including cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer, fridge freezer etc etc
A sitting room and a separate reading / sitting room contain an extensive library of books, videos / DVDs and music DVD, CD and IPod / IPhone player/charger
Originally built in the style of local fishermen cottage, extensive use is made of stone and wood.
There are 3 bedrooms (one en suite) with a further family bathroom.
Dunquin / Dún Chaoin is located on the Slea Head Drive, an area of exceptional natural beauty, with rugged coastline, Blasket Islands in front, Mount Eagle as a backdrop, beaches and beautiful undulating countryside all around. It is a rural community stretching c.5 km along the Atlantic Coast from Caumeenole Beach to Clocher Beach with Mt Eagle.to the right
A short walk from the cottage brings you to - Kruger’s Pub – The Blasket Islands Interpretive Centre with excellent videos and exhibits on the Blasket Islands - Dunquin Pier where boat trips are available to the Islands weather permitting -the beautiful and sheltered Caumeenole and Clocher Beaches with cliff and hill walks everywhere.
A circular marked walk ‘Siuloid Na Cille’ brings you to the schoolhouse set which featured in the Ryan’s Daughter film, beautiful cliff walks and spectacular views of the sea and the Blasket Islands.
5 Coffee stops within walking distance at – Dun Chaoin Pottery, Slea Head House- Blasket Interpretive Centre- Louis Mulcahy Pottery and Tigh Aine.
There are 8 eating establishments (4 full restaurants & 4 pub food) within 6 KM and c. 20 restaurants in Dingle Town .
A short drive (10 minutes to the North) will take you to Baile An Fhirtearaigh (Ballyferriter) with 18 hole Links Golf Course, 4 pubs/hotel, church, museum, 2 shops & a long safe beach,
To the East a 10 minute drive brings you to Ceann Trá (Ventry) with pub, post office/ shop, a long sheltered safe beach and horseback riding.
At the bottom of the ‘Closach’ mountain road leading to Ceann Tra (Ventry) is Paudi O’Sheas Pub, with pictures of the famous Kerry footballer with the various celebrities who have visited there.
Dingle Town is a 20-minute drive from Dunquin. Here you will find many Pubs with nightly music, Craft Shops and Supermarkets, world-class Restaurants, Marina, Aquarium, Cinema, Bowling, Climbing Wall, Sailing & Kayaking.
Dingle Harbour is home to ‘Fungie’ the Lone Dolphin who swims with and entertains the tour boats which leave several times daily from Dingle Pier. Other boat trips are available at the Dingle pier, including fishing expeditions and trips to the Blasket Islands and Valencia Island.
There is a weekly outdoor market (Friday morning) in Dingle with local produce on sale.
There is a specialist fish shop near the marina and a whole-food shop in Main St.
During the summer, weekly folk music concerts are held in St James Church in Main St
Dingle Aquarium is open daily with exhibits and hands-on activities to entertain both children and adults.
The ‘Connor Pass’ mountain road leading out of Dingle towards Tralee offers breathtaking views of Mt Brandon and the Maharees in the distance.
Tralee Town is 1 Hour away where the County Museum and Aqua Dome are worth visiting. The Aqua Dome which is one of Ireland’s largest indoor waterworks offers tropical temperature all year round.
The beautiful Killarney National Park (1 hour ) Killarney Lakes and Muckross House are worth a visit,
