If you want to stay in a clean well-maintained vacation villa, then look no further than this rental on Grand Cayman's East End district. A relaxing 30 minute drive east from the airport brings you to this tranquil groups of Villas surrounding a huge cascading pool. We spent a couple days just hanging out at the pool, and usually had the place to ourselves. Other times we ventured to the beach across the street for some excellent snorkeling, quite handy not having to go far! You've got to check out stingray city, a must see and a highlight of our trip for sure! Other days we drove to Rum Point or 7 mile beach to enjoy the warm crystal clear water and awesome beaches, and when we tired of the crowds we were happy to return to the quiet and relaxing location of the villa. If you want to venture out at night the Reef Resort is close by, check out the Barefoot Man's show, definitely a hit for us! The house itself is large, roomy and beautifully decorated, the pictures on the web site do not do it justice you need to see it to really appreciate all the little details. There was only three of us, but I could see where eight people would be comfortable as well, with all the room, including the bonus room with large flat screen TV. Love the area as well, within walking distance to Vivines restaurant on the beach for authentic Cayman dishes at a great price. Another great place to eat is Tukka's Australian/Caribbean restaurant also with a great view of the Caribbean sea, food is good and prices are reasonable. Check out Captain Herman's fishing excursion as well, he'll cook your catch for you in the villa, and he's an excellent cook! Highly recommended. We also made use of the charcoal grill, I forgot how good slow cooked meat over charcoal can be! So all in all for our fist VRBO type experience, we were very happy, and can recommend no problems, we look forward to coming back many more times.Recommended for: People with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you, Larry, for this wonderful review. We are glad you enjoyed your holiday and your first experience with VRBO was so positive. Sounds like you kept quite busy and experienced all sorts of things. My 2 favourite things are: Stingray City & the Barefoot man. Next time you come, you'll have to try out "Herman's Fish Fry" -- it wasn't quite finished when you were there but it's pretty well the first thing you see when you enter the East End. We look forward to hosting you and your family again!

First , let me say that we had a wonderful vacation at your home in Cayman last January. I think about Cayman so often and we really planned on coming down some time this Summer even though we are aware of the heat, but .. hey... its hot in PA., too, but somehow the time just has been flying by this Summer. We loved your place and I hope your electric bill was low, because we were so very careful with lights and the AC. Veryyy careful. We did use the alarm every night. The cleaning crew came. He was so nice. I had one problem though as he arrived. Upon leaving, I could not find my plane tickets, passports, etc...!! I guess I didnt want to leave!! !!) Freudian!! Being on the East End was sooo awesome and the drive was a bit long from Georgetown, but the quiet was worth it. We travelled every day in the junk car we rented (Anthony's..??. I forget)! We stopped at Chesters and all the roadside places, enjoying Cayman fish, etc... no meat. Veggies). We bought roadside gifts and Cuban cigars (almost getting caught in Customs!!! oh no!!! But all they found were my conch fritters from Grand Ole House for our last lunch on the way to airport!)We really enjoyed the restaurants. I wish we could have tried them all, but some were very expensive. Loved Lighthouse and Tukka because they were delicious and close. My favorite was Grand Ole House and Cracked Conch, but The Wharf was awesome too! We tried to pack it ll in! Enjoyed a day at Tiki Beach and took a picnic lunch! Chased the chickens and found a conch shell while swimming! We did the Stingray City on this fabulous Catamaran and found a great $$ deal doing it!! Went on a snorkel day trip to all the sites!! Loved Hamburger and the one by the dock right there at Georgetown. Did not like Kittyhawk so much. We found the North End the night before we left and went back early in the morning on the day we left. Rumpoint! The beach was ammaazziinngggg!!! We were so sorry we did not find it sooner!! OMG!! The best part of the whole vacation was not having any electronics (cell did not work much. Even the I-phone sometimes and who cared??) and actually seeing total happiness from my 18 teenager!!! OMG!! Nothing makes him happy!! LOL! But Cayman did!! But he and my 14 Daughter loved it!! They wanted to go back. Maybe some day we will. I think soon!! Thank you again for extending your home to us.We especially enjoyed the den upstairs where we would spend nights (late) watching a movie. I even found the food marketRecommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you, Cindy, for this fabulous review! And thank you, too, for being so careful with the electricity -- normally the bills are around $1000 CI a month, and yes, we did notice the difference! Hmmm -- about the "junk" car -- you don't mean Andy's do you? Usually their cars are in top shape. McCurleys, however, rents older "junk" cars (cheaper too) -- maybe you mean them? I forgot to put "Chester's" on the "Places 2 Eat" page -- I love love love their Jerk Chicken. When we go to Cayman, every Thursday night, you will find us at "The Grand Ole House" -- pasta is $10.00 a plate -- a bargain in Cayman. If you didn't find Rum Point Beach, then sadly, you must have missed Stingray City. Well, then, you absolutely must come back because that's one of the highlights of Cayman!

My family stayed at this charming home for a week and enjoyed our time. The home is nicely decorated, comfortable and very quiet at night which is nice after a day of adventuring on the island. The owner was very responsive and gave me some great ideas of things to do and places to eat all over the island.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you, Ed & Family. We are glad you enjoyed the villa, and my personal favourites for restaurants. Yes, the East End is very quiet at night -- you can sit on the balcony with a drink and just look at the stars -- so many of them -- and different constellations than you see in North America.

Our family of 6 thoroughly enjoyed staying at Cayman Calypso in East End. The house is very comfortable and beautifully decorated. We all oohed and aahed with the high ceilings and tropical decor. There is a fun family area near the kitchen, but room upstairs if you just want to be alone for a couple minutes. The house was very clean, and everything was in good condition and working well. The owners have done many little things to make it a comfortable stay. Plush towels, a bucket of leftover sunscreen and sunburn lotions, a couple sets of snorkel fins, and internet access upstairs. The area is fabulous. Just 5 minute drive from a great scuba diving outfit, where we spent most of our days. The beach across the street has some great snorkeling and we saw colorful fish, an eel, lobsters and conches. (We were warned to NOT harvest these, since it is a protected area.) A good little restaurant down the street called Vivines serves local food like jerk chicken and conch stew for a reasonable price. Outdoor eating on picnic tables overlooking the ocean. The owners treated us fairly, and we didn't have any unexpected charges or fees. Our first experience with VRBO, and a very good one! We highly recommend Cayman Calypso!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Hey, Janice -- what a wonderful review -- Thank you!!! I am glad everything worked out so well from you and your family and the VRBO experience was a positive one. Once you rent villas, you'd never go back to a hotel room! I have over 500 dives myself, so when you say you spent most of your days at the "Great scuba diving outfit" 5 minutes down the road, I assume you're talking about Ocean Frontiers. You are right, they are fabulous and it's where I do most of my diving too. Thank you for mentioning not to harvest the conch & lobsters -- there's a HUGE fine if you are caught. I'll have to add that to my notes I send guests beforehand. Look forward to seeing you and your family again!

We stayed at the house from Jan 17-25, 2012. It was me, my husband and our 3 children (ages 7, 6, and 2). The house is absolutely fabulous! The master bedroom is gorgeous with a TV, walk in closet and master bath with a big jacuzzi tub. The other 2 bedrooms are very cute and are painted fun, caribbean colors. You have your own washer and dryer, an awesome kitchen with everything you need and your own patio area next to the pool. We were there for 9 days and never saw anyone else at the pool. We had it all to ourselves! One of our favorite areas was the 3rd floor loft with a huge comfy couch and a big screen TV (it also has a kitchenette, an office area and the couch pulls out into a bed - but we never needed any of these things). Every night we had family movie night with popcorn. It was a great way for the kids to wind down. This loft area was also a great area for the 7 and 6 yr old to go and hang out if they woke up early in the morning without disturbing anyone else (especially our 2 yr old who likes to sleep in). The house is on the east end of the island which is very quiet. We rented an SUV and went out exploring the island every day. A rental car is a must on this area of the island! We bought a cooler at the grocery store and packed it for the beach every day. The beaches on this island are great. The water is warm and calm (great for small children) and the sand is soft and white. We had perfect weather every day we were there. We were never cold and never needed a jacket. Our favorite beaches were Rum Point, Starfish Beach, Smith Cove and 7 mile beach. Kaibo Yacht Club and Rum Point are good places for lunch if you are in the area of Starfish beach and Rum Point - both on the north end. Sting Ray City is a must!!! The turtle farm is really great, too. Overall, I would recommend Grand Cayman to anyone! It was perfect and I have nothing but great things to say about it. If you are looking for a lot of people and night life, then the east end is not for you (then you would want to stay in the 7 mile beach area). The owner, Sandra, was great and gave us lots of helpful tips before we left. She was easy to work with and always answered my emails right away. We can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: WOW -- Susan -- that's quite the review! What can I say -- you've said it all. Seriously, though, you and your family are welcome back anytime!

My 3 kids are all scattered across the country, so getting together is a difficult thing to accomplish, and a special time indeed. Our stay at the Calypso House was amazing and one we will remember for years. Plenty of space for 7 of us (2 spouses came with daughters). One of our best experiences was going out fishing with Captain Herman, who turns out is one of our neighbors. He came back and cooked the fish we caught -- pretty good cook too. We also enjoyed Roland's Garden, a 5 minute drive -- where you bring your own wine and pay what you can when you leave. It was a great evening for all -- so much fun. The week went too fast. But the villa was absolutely perfect. Hopefully, we can all return again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Antje this review almost made me cry -- thank you for writing it. How very special it was for you to be able to get your whole family together for a vacation, and I am honoured that you chose our villa to do this. May you have many many more beautiful family reunions!

This is a wonderful house. Everything is in tip top shape and we could have stayed for a month. All of the owner's restaurant recommendations were great. Nice to be in the middle to be able to drive to Seven Mile Beach or Rum Point. Enjoyed excellent diving days with Ocean Frontiers which is 2 minutes away. This side of the island offers the best diving. Pools were very fun for my 10 year old. Complex is very quiet. Our third time to Cayman and enjoyed staying on this side much more than Seven Mile Beach.Recommended for: People with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for your review and I'm glad your family enjoyed the villa and their holiday. I was sad to see Portofino's Italian & Seafood Restaurant closed, haven't tried "Tukka" which is now in the same location. I've heard the hamburgers are great -- not so sure I'm adventurous enough to try the kangaroo steaks. As an avid diver myself, I cannot say enough about Ocean Frontiers -- one of the best dive operators I've dove with anywhere (and I've got over 500 dives myself). Hope we see you all back soon!

This was our first time to the Caymans. Have been to Mexico and several of the Caribbean Islands. Nothing compared to this -- we were pleasantly surprised. The people were extremely friendly and helpful, no-one peddling their merchandise, no beggars, well, it is a completely different atmosphere. As for the house -- we absolutely LOVED it. It was so beautifully decorated and perfectly appointed for a large family. Altogether we had 7 -- brought our parents with us and the main floor bedroom was perfect for them. My son slept in the loft and loved it. The kitchen was the most well equipped one we have encountered through VRBO. No question about it -- we will be coming back here again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for your wonderful review, George. You travelled a long way to get to Cayman and I'm very happy you weren't disappointed. Cayman does have the highest standard of living in the Caribbean. I don't think the Travel & Tourism department does enough advertising in North America. I did kind of overdo it when I furnished the kitchen -- my property manager was a little overwhelmed. But I put in it all the things that I would want -- and then some. I remember going to a place on VRBO and there was no frying pan -- I was really annoyed -- had to complain, finally got ONE frying pan. Well, you can see I've got big frying pans, small frying pans, and a frying pan griddle. You can pretty well cook up anything in the kitchen -- and have lots of bowls to serve things in too. The villa holds 8, so I plan for 8 people to be eating there and that's a lot of plates, bowls and cutlery.

About the owner: Owners: Sandra is a registered psychotherapist in private practice in Toronto. Formerly, she was a head of Guidance with the Toronto Board of Education. Daughters Samantha & Sarah, both honour-roll students, are now in Grade 10 & 11 at a private high school in Canada. Samantha & Sarah are both licenced scuba divers having obtained their licenses when we lived on Cayman. Bella, our Boston Terrier, loves the Cayman Islands too -- particularly the weather -- she loves to lay out in the sun, but with her black fur, overheats easily.
Why the Owner Chose East End:
As an avid diver, going to the Cayman Islands for the past 20+ years, I fell in love with the island and it's people many years ago. Cayman is my favourite dive destination, having coral, walls, caverns and relatively tame fish (I'm into underwater photography). It has the highest standard of living in the Caribbean and lowest crime rate. Therefore, when my husband and I were looking to buy a vacation villa, Cayman was an easy choice. My daughters absolutely love the swimming pools -- and every time we visit, spend almost every moment of their time in the swimming pools.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
If you want peace & relaxation, this is the place to be! I like my home in Cayman much better than my home in Toronto -- the layout, the loft being our favourite room where we all go to watch family movies. I thoroughly enjoy cooking in the kitchen -- which you will see if very well stocked.
For diving the location is perfect -- the best diving is in the East End. And if you are into fishing, one of our neighbours, Herman Christian, owns 'Herman's Fishing Charters' based at the Morritt's resort (10 min. away). He will come back to the villa and cook your catch for you. He's a great cook.
No other resort has a pool like ours. Several times we have rented out 2 or 3 villas in the complex for family re-unions, for weddings, or for multiple families travelling together. We have had caterers (we recommend Mise En Place) set up a BBQ under the cabana.
For those who don't dive, when the divers go out on their dives, head over to the Morritt's spa for a massage, manicure or pedicure. Pamper yourself!
