Located less than an hour from Atlanta, near Amicalola Falls, Monument Place may be the finest vacation rental in North Georgia. We designed and built this home with this goal in mind and we really do work hard at it. Located at 3200 feet above sea level, on the southernmost extension of the Blue Ridge Mountains within one half mile of the intersection of Gilmer, Pickens and Dawson county, the design, construction and furnishing of Monument Place was inspired by our first vacation rental, Paramount Place.
Perched on the top of Sassafras Mountain, Monument Place provides 4300 square feet of finished space, 2000 square feet of covered cedar deck and 1000 square feet of covered terrace level patio. Monument Place is an absolutely gorgeous, custom, executive home on five acres. From this ridgeline, you can see over 70 miles to both the East and West. Completed in August of 2006, Monument Place is ideal for 3-5 families, extended families, large reunion gatherings, or a couple that likes a lot of space. Perfect for a small wedding, wedding reception, honeymoon, or all three! With 5 sleeping areas on the perimeter of 3 large, common areas on three different levels, Monument Place has been is designed to accommodate a large group, while still providing privacy to couples and individuals.
Monument Place is very secluded and private, yet only 6 miles from Amicalola Falls State Park, 12 miles from Jasper, and 14 miles from Ellijay. The Ellijay town square has antique shops, art galleries, specialty shops, and a variety of interesting eateries. Ellijay is also the apple capital of the North Georgia Mountains and has an Apple Festival every fall. Our home also convenient for day trips to the the popular mountain communities of Blue Ridge, Helen & Dahlonega,the site of the first North American gold rush and wine vinyards.
Monument Place is conveniently close to prime mountain bike trails, hiking trails, trout fishing on the Amicalola River, Burt's Pumpkin Farm, whitewater rafting & canoeing on the Cartecay and Toccoa rivers, Amicalola Falls, and the Appalachian Trail. This property was literally on the Appalachian Trail until 1958, when in an effort to get the southern terminus of the trail into the Chattahoochee National Forest, the end of the trail was moved 8 miles to the north to it's current location at Springer Mountain. Monument Place is a great mountain getaway with over 7300 square feet under roof on 3 levels. It has 5 bedrooms, 5 and 1/2 baths, with a wraparound deck to take full advantage of the magnificent mountain view. 52 windows, 10 large sliding doors and one set of french doors provide panoramic views from every room.
The great room has 25-foot ceilings in white pine with 3 stories of windows, a stacked stone fireplace, and a satellite-fed full home theater set up. Watch the football game, the fire, and the mountains from the leather couches. Enjoy the Dolby 5.1 surround sound system powered by a 100-watt per channel Onkyo Digital receiver and DVD player on the large Hitachi flat screen HDTV, which is mounted above the woodburning fireplace. All rooms have satellite TV with Combo DVD/VCR. You will find a dining room and a large, well-designed, fully-equipped kitchen and breakfast bar with upgraded appliances, hickory cabinets and six inch hickory plank floors. The Master down has a king-size bed with a double whirlpool tub and all bathrooms have custom tile floors and showers. Kitchen and vanity countertops are granite. Sliding doors off of the great room open up to unbelievably large, covered, cedar deck, with 3 sets of teak tables and chairs and a very large Vita Spa hot tub designed for 8.
The second floor has a king size bed with full bath in the Master Up and a second guest room with a queen size bed and full bath. Second floor also has two lofts with 17-foot ceilings with a connecting gangway. The North loft is home to an 8 foot maple Great Western pool table and computer center, or cross over to the East loft and curl up on one of the two Lifestyle, queen-size futons with upgraded 9 layer mattresses and read a book. French doors open off of this room to a second floor 12x14 sundeck with an incredible view. We have also just installed high speed internet access (DSL) and a wireless network. Bring your laptop and on the deck and enjoy the view, while you work or play on the net.
On the terrace level, you will find two additional bedrooms with a exceptional mountain views and their own full bath. Both of these rooms have doors leading to the large terrace patio and to the terrace family room that offers a wet bar, gas fireplace, exceptionally nice poker table and another HD home theater system. The terrace level also contains an additional two sleeping areas, that offer queen size futons that access the full baths without going through a bedroom.
Enjoy the Vita Spa, six-person, hot tub from the private deck, strategically placed to provide privacy and a panoramic view. For total comfort you will find a Bryant Evolution, four-zone, central heat and air system. Children will find a Creative Playthings play set with fort, rope ladder, slide, and a variety of swings for all ages the yard with a view second to none. A Foosball table is also provided for your enjoyment.
Try a fire under the stars at our outdoor fire pit on the lower terraced level with room for tents. Seasoned hardwood firewood is provided for both the fire pit and the fireplace in the Great Room. Parking is a breeze, with room for ten cars, with no need to move cars. Monument Place is fully furnished with all linens, dishes, and appliances required for a hassle-free weekend in the mountains. Perfect getaway for someone who wants to enjoy the mountains without giving up the luxury of home.

- Pet Friendly: Clean, well behaved, housebroken pets only. Deposit required. Your pet must have a bath prior to visiting our home.
- Handicapped Accessible: I made the door to the master bedroom,closet and bath 36 inches wide on the main level, with shower large enough for a wheelchair. Hot Tub, great room with home theater and fireplace, dining room, kitchen, main deck with hot tub are all on main level to provide comfort for a wheelchair bound guest and keep them where the action is. In addition, terrace level is accessible by car and no stairs are required to access family room, foosball table and poker table through 4 foot wide sliding doors.

Rate Details (In US Dollars)
Jan 1 Dec 31 (2 night minimum) $375.00 per night base rate for up to 10 guests.
Additional guests are 30 per person per night. Seventh night is free,
making weekly base rate 2250.00. Children 2 and under stay free of charge.
1 week rental required for Thanksgiving, Christmas @ New Years weeks.
Three and Four day holiday weekends require 3 to 4 night minimum stay.
$200.00 Holiday weekend premium for major holiday weeks the last three
weekends in October. Cancellation policies do apply.
$135 Cleaning Fee and 13% combined Georgia Sales/Lodging Tax are required.

I want you to know how much we enjoyed our stay last week. Not only is the view spectacular, but the cabin accommodations are perfect for a group of 5 couples who prefer private bath / bedrooms. The furnishings are beautiful and the entire house is well arranged. Our group of 5 retired couples usually rents a different place each October, but after visiting Monument Place, all want to return there next year. Carlton

On the last day of our retreat I once again look out over the mountains and praise God for every leaf, every color, every cloud. I pray that all who enter this place are able to see the amazing wonder of God in everything that surrounds you. I pray that you are here in the fall to see the changing of the leaves and that during your stay you take at least one morning and leave the comfort of your bed to watch the sun rise over the mountain tops.
