OUR 'OLD FASHIONED' CHRISTMAS

Guest: JMM056 (Florida Panhandle)
Date of Stay: 12/23/11 Review Submitted: 01/03/12

Our four night stay at the Rose Lovell House over Christmas this year was nothing short of enchanting. It was as if our stay in St Mary's transported us back to a time where people hung out on their porches, relaxed and rested and just enjoyed the peace and serenity of a simpler life. From the moment we walked in the front door...it was as if in some wierd way...we were coming home to grandmas house...with all the amenities provided.... We wanted for nothing. The beds were comfy...plenty of linens and towels. The kitchen and pantry were well stocked with everything we needed. Since the home was not decorated for Xmas...we picked up a 'Charlie Brown' tree at the local market and added some balls, tinsel and pinecones and a few lights. What our little tree was lacking in height and girthwas made up for in it's charm...and the joy it provided for all of us over Christmas. 16 of us in total walked to the 4pm childrens Christmas Eve service at the local Catholic church( 3 blocks from us)....beyond delightful...totally kid friendly...Santa Clause(who would have thought?), A childrens gospel story..topped off with a birthday cake for Jesus after mass...awesome!!Needless to say....the kids loved it!!!! Christmas day...was a frenzy of laughter, presents, children playing, carols chiming ,candy and cookie munching and numerous tears flowing, as we tried to crawl out from under all the wrapping paper and ribbons...ha! We will have to post a picture. It's no wonder the description of St Mary's at Christmas time...is like "Walking out of a Christmas Card"...It has "quaint and charming" written all over it...it is the essence of this place. I can't wait to come back to check out all the antique and consignment shops( of which there are several)... The riverfront( a couple blocks away) is amazing and is surrounded by restaurants, shops and a beautiful Park and Marina....there is just too much to say about this place....not enough words to describe how surreal it is... Hurry...Book this home while you still have the opportunity...don't miss a stay here with your family...We will have many fond memories of our Christmas at the Rose Lovell Home...one of the best ever holiday times with our family...We hope that each of you will be as blessed as we have been by our stay in St Mary's and by this amazing home...Thanks from the Manships, Christmans and Byrds for sharing your lovely home with us for the holidays....May the Lord richly bless you and yours in 2011!

Thank you so much for sharing your home. Our group gathers for the New Year every year and St. Marys and your lovely home was the perfect place to see in 2011. As we get older we hope to value time with family and friends old and new. Your home, Bailey and yourself are now counted within our circle and we hope to see you again soon. Our prayer for 2011 is peace and abundance. Cheers!

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful home with our family. we were able to participate in oyster roasts and pig hunts with our friends on Cumberland and then return to the comfort of Rose-Lovell each evening. Our daughter and son-in-law are hooked and we will spread the news. Everything was perfect.

We are 8 college friends who meet every year somewhere - usually in the fall. we graduated from Vassar in 1970. We loved the house, St. Marys, the people (especially Candy was so kind). It is very beautiful here.

What a wonderful week we had... We love the sweet and hospitable town of St. Marys. Everyone is so gracious. The house and grounds here were exactly what we needed for a stress free wedding week. I've never slept in a softer bed. Your home was a perfect place for our family to gather for the wedding. After hectic days, it was the perfect place to relax and gather for big family dinners. Thank you so much for opening your home to us this week. I'm sure we'll be back again some day.

We love your home. We are always so comfortable here. Your lovely yard was a fabulous location for our Easter Egg Hunt. We will certainly return as soon as we can possibly get away again.

A house is made a home when family is there. This house became our home for this short time and our family's memories will be forever entwined. When we say to each other, "remember when?" , the Rose -Lovell House will be a part of our family lore. Southern grace and hospitality and grace are alive and well in Georgia. Thank you

We had such a fantastic week here- 14 of us lazing around St. Marys on our family vacation. The house is great and the slow pace was just what we all needed to relax!

Rose-Lovell was a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle, and St. Marys was the perfect backdrop. What a beautiful home that feels like, well, home! Thanks for the generous supply of Southern Hospitality that will live in our memories for years to come.

Very nice place for our large crowd to spend the holiday, cook, walk, explore Georgia's coast and even kayak a bit. Particularly enjoyed moments on the porch with the balmy Christmas weather. Best wishes and see you again sometime soon.

A very good place for us, a group of eight. We have stayed in many big homes but has the best beds. The dining room was perfect for all eight of us. It was well stocked with dishes and utensils. It will be kept in our memories and we will tell others.

On the windy and cloudy day of April 14th, 2007, the sailor finally took his bride. Down at the waterfront, the weather didn't quite agree with us. The reception came back here to the beautiful Rose-Lovell house. It turned out fantastic. For the past week our close friends and family stayed here. It was a joyous occasion we will remember for the rest of our lives. The house is absolutely beautiful!

We chose the Rose-Lovell House for a family reunion, and it was just perfect! The house and furnishings are lovely and so comfortable, especially the two big porches! We could sit on the rocking chairs and talk for hours! We had plenty of room for our extended family (4 couples and several kids) and everyone had their "own space". The ferry ride to Cumberland Island was a big hit, and the island itself is as natural and beautiful as we had heard. Loved seeing the horses on the beach! Sterlings Cafe was a great place for our family dinner (supper?), but we also loved taking turns cooking at the house. The kitchen is very well equipped. We hope to return next year for some kayaking! Beth & Jim Byous, Palm City, FL

"What a great place to celebrate our 50th anniversary. The second oldest city in the country and this beautiful 100 year old home, the Rose Lovell House. It was wonderful having our family together here for our 50th. Our dinner at Sterlings was delicious. (Thanks for the tip Sandie. In fact we ate there several times.) We really love your house and hope to get back again. The Barrie's have done a fantastic job!"

"What a treasure! When we drove up to this wonderful house, I was thrilled because it's what I always wanted to live in and it lived up to all my expectations. The bead board ceilings, the gorgeous hardwood floors, the fireplaces and the wonderful porch across the front. I hope we can share this experience some day with our family so we plan to return."

"We are here to celebrate our dear parents 50th anniversary. Staying at the Rose Lovell House touched our hearts in a couple of ways. The history of the house and what it represents echoed the history of our parents. We are fortunate to be born into a wonderful family and Rose Lovell is a wonderful house. We thank you for the opportunity to stay here. The beds slept wonderfully and the house is a treasure."

"What a marvelous time in a newly discovered place, thanks to the Barrie's. All of St. Marys was new to me and I was delighted with the town, its restaurants & friendly people, and most of all, with the gracious Rose Lovell House! I felt I could happily move in for months, spending my days exploring and my nights reading in the comfortable rooms here." "The Cumberland National Seashore is a real treasure, but be sure to wear comfortable clothes & shoes . . . and use extra sunscreen! It's the best national park I've experienced even in 100 degree temperatures. I'd love to see the marine forest in autumn. Well, this has been a treat in more ways than one, so best wishes to the proprietors and all future visitors lucky enough to stay here!"
