You can ride your bike to Ocean Crest fishing pier or Middleton Park which includes a skateboard park, basketball court, baseball fields, tennis courts, and playground. It's just a short walk to the scenic walkway that spans Davis Creek offering a close-up view of wildlife and vegetation and ends at the Island recreation center.
The Town of Oak Island is a family-oriented beach with ten miles of coastline on one side and the Intracoastal Waterway on the other. The beach is positioned to face south, which makes for a gentle surf, moderate tides and spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Oak Island extends to the public more than 60 public beach accesses, four fishing piers, two marinas, three public boat/canoe ramps, bike paths, numerous picnic areas, walking and canoe trails and extensive sidewalk system. If golf is your game then you'll have over 30 championship golf courses to choose from carved out of maritime forests, sculpted around freshwater lakes, and bordered by beautiful live oaks and towering long leaf pines in the Southport-Oak Island area.
The historic waterfront town of Southport is at the mouth of the Cape Fear River just over the Oak Island Bridge. Enjoy shopping, historical homes, diverse restaurants, the North Carolina Maritime Museum, many relaxing parks and art galleries. Southport is so photogenic that a number of motion pictures and TV films have been made there.

Why the Owner Chose Oak Island
We bought land in Oak Island 6 years ago and built a house in 2006. We looked at all the beaches from Wilmington to Kiawah and settled on Oak Island because of the relaxed atmosphere, trees, restaurants, large lots and convenience to nearby Southport. This is a wonderful family beach with a fishing pier, skateboard park, tennis, baseball field, basketball court, youth center, putt-putt, recreation center, outdoor movie theater, etc. The list goes on and on...you have everything you need here without ever having to leave the island if you don't want to. The locals here are wonderful and we hope to retire here someday.
The Unique Benefits at this Beach House
All of the amenities are within bike distance from our house. The nature trail leading to the rec center is behind our house and a very easy walk. We have a quiet street for children to play ball and a sidewalk that takes you to the beach in less than 2 minutes. We have a unique location which keeps our tenants coming back year after year!
