If you are coming for a vacation in Seattle, stay at St. John's Apartments! Our #309 is perfect for vacation or business travelers. It has two bedrooms, two baths, a nice living room and a full kitchen with gas range.

St John’s was built in 1910. We find that people who love old houses really admire this place. It is a charming old building with hardwood floors and fancy period woodwork. There are twenty five apartments in the building on two floors, above retail businesses along Pike Street. #309 is on the top floor and has a great view down onto the street from both the living room and the master bedroom.

We've made it feel like home. The living room has a seven foot super comfortable couch, two stuffed chairs and a 37-inch LCD TV with DVD player and a small collection of movies. (And Blockbuster is a block away.) The apartment also has wireless high speed internet. It's a great place to visit and relax, or to get work done if you're here on business.

The kitchen works, but it is small. There is a table seating two, a full-size fridge, microwave and gas stove, plus of course small appliances, dishes and all the essentials.

The Master Bedroom has a king size bed, TV, writing desk, and a private bath with shower and toilet. The sink in a seperate nook area.

The second bedroom is in the middle of the unit. Its window looks into a light well, giving natural light but no view to the street below. This keeps it very quiet and it's is a great place to sleep. The bed is queen size.

We are in a great location. We are in what is know as the "Pike-Pine Corridor", which denotes the two main streets that run from Seattle’s Pike Place Market through the downtown shopping area and then up to the residential neighborhoods on Capitol Hill. The distance from St. John’s down to the center of Seattle's shopping district is ten blocks, the Pike Street Market is just five more. There are interesting stores, restaurants and businesses all along the way and it’s an easy walk.

Directly across the street from us is a large supermarket, open 24 hours, and a Bartell Drug store. Very convenient! The neighborhood is a colorful and lively, making it great for people watching and a perfect spot for a fun city vacation. At night it becomes even more lively when the bars and restaurants fill up and there is lots to do.

We have a full-time, live-in manager, Johnny Sidorowicz, who takes care of checking people in and out. Johnny lives in apartment 200 and if there's every anything you need while you're with us, he's always ready to help.

    • The Neighborhood is a really fun area. There's lots of activity and it feels safe. There are many young people in the area--two colleges nearby--and many older people that still come out at night. It was recently compared, by one of our renters, to the Village, or Chelsea in NYC. It really is an amazing area. By day there are people on the street, it's busy enough. But at night, especially on weekends, there are many, many people, literally everywhere-- the neighborhood buzzes!

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

We have four short terms, and it is difficult to write four different descriptions of the owners, Mark and Oda. I assume you'll see our other listings, perhaps read the descriptions there, and you'll know lots about us. We have St. John's as an investment, but we're not big real estate investors, it's our only building. We've had a very good experience with it--the location is excellent and the people we've met here are wonderful. There's nothing not to be liked! Up until November 30th, 2009, there was a loud bar across the street, but that closed, removing the only thing that bothered us about the location. It's a great neighborhood, vibrant, filled with things to do and places to go. It's much better than downtown Seattle, which closes up shop in the evening and has an empty, big tall buildings feel. Our area comes alive at night, filled with restaurants, bars and boutiques. It's like being in New York City or maybe Paris, except it's Seattle. Everybody's friendly here. That's why we bought the place, and that's why we love it!

Why the Owner Chose Capitol Hill

RESTAURANTS: If you're new to the area you will be surprised by how many great restaurants there are within a few short blocks of St. John's. We have three in the building: The Other Coast Cafe features East Coast Style Sandwiches, The Rosebud is an American/bistro, and Ayutthaya is a Thai restaurant. All of these are great places! On our block there is yet another fun eatery. Heading toward Broadway, there are two on the next block, plus a Subway and the QFC Grocery Store. Once you get to Broadway there are restaurants in every direction, several to choose from, on every block. Without trying hard we could name 25 great eateries, all within a short walk. It's a diner's delight!

The Unique Benefits of this Apartment

It's two and a half blocks to the best bookstore in Seattle! And right next to it is the largest CD and DVD store. These are both serious destinations, and they compete with any other vacation must-do.

2nd bed is a double NOT a queen and NO air circulation...

Good: Great location. Parking & grocery. Bad: 2nd bed is only a Double... NOT a Queen. Description should be updated with correct info. Would not have considered it if we had known. More Bad: No fans, no air circulation. Stiffling and we stayed in October! Put some fans in the ceilings, at least.

Owner response:Dear reviewer: We're sorry if things were not as you expected. The 2nd bed is a Queen, for sure. A queen is 60" x 80" and that is the size of the bed in the second bedroom. As for air circulation, you could have opened the window! And our manager would have gladly brought you a window fan had you asked. But still we're sorry to hear any complaints, and we will install a ceiling fan, just to be sure this never happens again.

9/22/09 I suggest you go downtown to the markets, it’s really great! I also recommend a restaurant called “Boom Noodle” about 3 blocks up Pike (thanks for the tip, Johnny!). The hotel room is great! It’s nice and clean, lots of room, etc.

This was our 3rd time staying at St. John’s-we won’t stay anywhere else on our yearly visit. Can’t beat hospitality, convenience, and comfort of this place. Remember to book early if you’re planning a return visit since the book up pretty quickly-we missed out one year due to our delay?. Walked to everything-next year I think we’ll forego the car for Seattle portion of our vacation. Best Restaurant found this trip: Tulio’s, on 5th Ave between Seneca and Marion. We’re foodies! It was great!

We had a fabulous time in Seattle. We were here for the national Veterinary conference. We loved the apartment; great location, very clean, perfect size. Johnny was very accommodating. We would definite stay here again, and would recommend it to anybody. This was our first trip to the Pacific Northwest, and we’re excited to come back and see more in the future. We visited the International Rose Garden in Portland Or. And drove out to see the Columbia River Gorge. Very scenic. Of course we had to do the Space Needle. And Elliott’s Oyster House had some of the best salmon we’ve had. Great City.

We came all the way from Sweden to see Seattle and it certainly didn’t disappoint! My friends and I were so happy to have found this apartment to rent, and that didn’t disappoint either! The place is clean and convenient, everything we needed was right here. It was like coming to stay at a friend’s house. Thoroughly enjoyable! We were pleasantly surprised by the Honey Hole sandwiches place. Very interesting décor and excellent hamburgers! Thanks so much for providing this place for people to rent, it made our whole stay great!

We came for the inaugural Seattle Rock n Roll marathon and discovered what a great city Seattle is. St. John’s is in the center of everything, restaurants, downtown, grocery store across the street, Hot Mama’s Pizza is AWESOME! This is a beautiful city and I’m sure we will come back next year for the Seattle Marathon. Thank you!

We loved the apartment! Recommendations: the Pike Place Market for breakfast. La Paniera-croissants and piroskys are best! In Post Alley go to Yarmulka for Eastern European Veggie stuffed cabbage. Pike Place Chowder. Restaurants on Broadway: Annapurna (Indian) Byzantium (Greek). Steer clear of Bruno’s on 3rd. Anthony’s on the water-good, Chinnok on Lake Union-great. Check out the Center for Wooden Boats on Lake Union-free boat rides on Sunday Afternoon. Take a ferry ride to Pt. Townsend. Be sure to see Sterret House on Clay St. and Manresa Castle Hotel. Mitsker Maps on 1st Ave. And don’t miss the Olympic Sculpture garden on the waterfront north of Pier 70.

A great place to stay! Walk one block north to Pine and catch bus #10, 11 or 49, goes West to within one block of Pikes Market-catch same bus between 3rd and 4th or Pike to come back-take bus 10 or 11 West to 5th and Pine to catch monorail to go to Space Needle-the Exp Music and Science Fiction Museum. Catch bus 5 just North of Pine on 3rd St. to go to Woodland Zoo.
