Come Sail Away at Captains Wheel! The Captain and crew will fall in love with this spacious, yet comfortable, luxury,2,3,or 5 bedroom, waterfront home on Lake Norman in Mooresville, North Carolina, home of Race City USA. Our signature yellow oars and large, teak and brass, ship’s wheel sophisticatedly, mark and mast this private, luxurious, rental home on the beautiful shores of Lake Norman. We offer both homes and boats (awaiting you, no ramps, trailering, etc!) for your skiing, fishing, or entertaining pleasure.
As you meander up the walkway to the front entrance, you are surrounded by an exceptional wooded area and beautiful foliage, azaleas, crape myrtles, and seasonal berries and bulbs. Should you choose the wooden walk path to the right, it will lead clear from the streetside entry around to the lakeside entry and on to the water front, past the sandy beach and fire pit areas. The over water pier porch provides ample seating for good conversation and camaraderie: three gliders, chairs, and chaise lounge. Here is where many choose to sunbathe, if not the beach area. The oversized slip is roof covered, has a swim ladder for convenience and safety, and boasts a strap hoist for protective, aquatic boat toy owners!
The landscaped and naturalized yard areas offer a plank walk to the boat dock and share a park like setting of trees, bench swing, lake swimming area, and pier porch for picnics at the waterside. Glider and hammock encourage afternoon naptime stations! The house is in a cove; safe for swimming and floating, but is an easy and short trek to the boating channel for all your sporting activities, which can include, jet skiing, fishing, excursions, and loafing! The full line grocery, pharmacy, restaurants, McD’s, nail and beauty salon, are 9/10 mile down the road.
Once inside the front door, Captains Wheel welcomes you with the warm, inviting open floor plan with having a vaulted ceiling unveiling sky lights, living area complete with fireplace, large flat screen TV (HDTV), DVD, CD player, comfy sofas and quality deluxe kitchen and adjoining dining area. The upper level boasts 3 spacious and elegantly decorated bedrooms and 2 full baths. Rear screened in porch and rear deck can be accessed from the kitchen area, complete with seating, stainless steel gas grill and outdoor cooking utensils for a meal at sunrise or sunset! Relax on the over-sized hammock, build a fire on the beach or lounge in the swing chair with your sweetheart!
Later, its time for fun! Enter the lower level from the roomy stairway and play the night away! Foosball, billiards / pool, and card tables compliment the classy recreation room with its leather sofas and glass tables, entertainment area with large flat screen TV, fireplace and DVD player. The lower level is home to the remaining two bedrooms and a 3rd full bath. Two large coffee tables and a standard size card playing table offer mass areas for gaming, food buffet, scrap booking, and sorting, not to speak of additional surface making use of the ping-pong topper too.
Stroll toward the waterside from a very well appropriated, fully furnished, professionally decorated, comfy and spacious, 3500 Square Foot Lakefront Luxury Home affording two kitchens, on e full upper, and kitchenette lower. Talk about convenience, this is it! Gathering together is GREAT, but room to spread and find your ‘private’ spot enables our guests to remain together longer in a relaxed fashion.
Take a walk out beyond the lower level double French doors which lead our guests to the lower patio and deck which envelopes the ‘Sun Dance’ , seven person, hot tub and spa area boasting outdoor shower and foot wash within reach. Dining table and chairs collect our guests to gather together for warm conversation and sharing of soothsaying sagas.
This acre plus site hosts a hiding spot……..the adjoining naturalized property aside Captains Wheel owned as one is where you will see the scampering of squirrels, deer, and butterflies luring you into the forest of ‘PRIMAL-time and good things yet to come’. It engulfs the kindred elfin-feel in us and leads us to the open lakefront waters spreading across 207 lineal feet of shore line. Nestling you in securely is the beautiful tree canopy cooling down a hot summer day which keeps the dashes of sunlight where they may be at bay ‘or where the beach and grassy knolls play. Trees, flora, and fauna; it is the hereunder that nestles you in securely, yet permits the settling lake views to resound throughout Captain’s Wheel’s interior walls…..they WELCOME you OUT!
Lean over the pier-porch rail and stare unthinkingly into the glimmers of glossy green sheaths of water to snak a peek and the wriggling shad best for bait! Lye in the chaise to bask away in the heat of the sun for toasting the skin before cooling of in a floaty-tube tied to the pier.
All living rooms, rec room, bedroom, and screened porch have ceiling fans, televisions and fully furnished with linens. The beds are dressed having quality mattress pads, linens of minimally 400 to 1800 satin Pima or Egyptian cotton, double gusseted pillow/ protectors/cases, comforter/bedspread and all laundered to cleanliness even royalty would approve. Mattresses are all Basset pillow-top Queens and Doubles , Tempurpedic-like Kings, and Englander Singles, along with the Restonic Electronic remote beds housed in bedroom three.

Cozy Vacation Home Perfect for Family Gathering

Captain's Wheel was a perfect home for our family's retreat in Lake Norman. The pictures were an accurate reflection of the home's apperance. We wanted to rent this home because the pictures made it appear cozy, private and spacious. We were quite pleased when we arrived because the pictures didn't deceive our expectations. The property was well maintained and clean. I spoke with the owner prior to arriving and found her to be very nice and helpful. We didn't want to leave the home because everything we needed was provided for us at the home with the exception of groceries. We have already decided to rent it again for another annual family vacation next year, but have not decided on the dates at this point in time.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.

We did not like this house at all. Hot water: the house sleeps 12 - 20 but runs out of hot water after 2 showers and running the dishwasher Lighting: we had to have lightbulbs unscrewed to turn off a light. Lightbulbs had to be replaced as many weren't working when we arrived. Decor: looks like someone bought out an import export store - the sofas were comfortable and the fireplace was nice though Beach: landscaping fabric was ticking up through the sand making it unsafe for children Back yard: completely covered with leaves and unsightly Kitchen equipment: inadequate equipment to cook for a large group. A large roasting pan shed its teflon surface all over two pork tenderloins making them completely inedible. The oven only had one rack even though three are pictured. Hot tub: when open the top completely blocks all views Telephone: NO LANDLINE. Cell phone reception is poor (not owners' fault) but people were unable to reach us. This is a safety issue as we could not have even called the fire department had it been needed. Washing machine: one of the washing machines didn't work. Exhaust fan in master bathroom: was broken so no way to ventilate the bathroom. I could go on and on... The house was clean and the management company was somewhat reponsive but the property is not enjoyable. We were charged $30 for a service call required to sort out some of these issues even though it took the service provider 4 hours to respond.
