Herdade dos Alfanges - Alentejo Holiday Villa - Alentejo, Portugal Villa Accommodation The Alfanges Estate, or Herdade dos Alfanges, boasts a manor house set in 90 hectares of mature Iberian cork oaks and olive trees, all of which are native to the Alentejo. The property is entirely private, set in a valley and surrounded by the rolling hills of the Portuguese countryside. It is ideal walking country, especially in the Spring when the wild flowers and grasses come into their own. We have bicycles for visiting the local village or for discovering little tracks and roads that we can show you on our detailed military maps. Children are welcomed with an in-ground trampoline, treehouse, babycot and highchair, as requested. The Alfanges Estate combines the best of modern living whilst keeping the old alive. The house is white washed, has the traditional thick walls to keep it cool and many period features of interest. On the other hand, the bathrooms are fantastic, the water works, the kitchen is fully equipped, the sitting room comfortable and the setting of the garden a dream. The private pool is stunning, with covered eating areas, plenty of room for lounging and uninterrupted views across the Alentejo. The main house has three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms: ensuite king, ensuite queen and a children's room with bunk plus trundle bed. The studio apartment, rented separately, has a double bedroom plus a trundle bed/sofa, bathroom and kitchenette. (Note: To ensure your privacy, the studio can only be rented in conjunction with the main villa.) The estate is also a working farm. Besides the olive and cork harvests, the main source of income is the milk produced by Murciana goats which is used to make cheese locally. There is also an organic kitchen garden, an orange grove and the most wonderful truly fresh eggs to which our guests have free access. Good to Know: The 'Alentejo', translated as 'beyond the River Tagus', is the Portuguese countryside. It is synonymous with rich full bodied red wines, of which there are endless varieties, good food and above all, relaxation. In the Alentejo, most people live in traditional white-washed houses in towns and villages with predominantly blue and yellow sashes, leaving great expanses of unspoilt countryside between them.
