We did NOT want to leave!
We did NOT want to leave!
My husband and I, along with our 2 daughters, mother in law and 3 dogs stayed here for 3 days this month. First of all I really have to commend the owner. I had to really get a "feel" for her before giving her my money. I sent ALOT of emails to her regarding questions. She was 100% committed to seeing that all of my questions and concerns were answered. She went over the top to make sure we were set. She is a little fussy about her cabin too, which is imperative if you want a good quality place to stay, in my opinion. The cabin did lack a few things we thought were essential such as rugs on the porch and inside the kitchen. It drizzeled while we were there. The lack of rags had me concerned for the floor (scratching) and we swept alot. There were no curtains on any of the windows. That was odd for us and I know some people dont like the hinderance of the view. I would highly recommend at least blinds on all windows (there were some, just not all) so that guests would have the option to close them at night. A crockpot in the kitchen would be fabulous for simmering chili or beef stew all day! The master needs a clock radio.. the cabin address isnt displayed anywhere (that we could find) and we had major difficulty finding it due to that and when we called the contact number on our reservations, there was no answer and we left a message but she never called us back. That was a little scary after driving for 8 hours, thinking we couldnt find the cabin. But we did and everything panned out. Maybe some numbers displayed clearly on the cabin would help others? The pictures for this cabin just dont do it justice. The furniture is a thick, deep, gorgeous leather. There were 4 huge flat TVs. The hot tub was nice and clean. The cabin was clean. We had more than enough room for us all to relax and unwind. The kitchen was well equipped. Loved the unique decor. The cabin inside is knotty pine, everywhere Beautiful. Master bed was so comfy! The porch was huge and this cabin is truly secluded. You wont see any of your neighbors! Id give this cabin and the owner 2 thumbs up and have passed along her info to my jealous neighbors, ha! We took tons of pictures! Oh and we were 15-20 mins from tons of Blue Ridge shops, antiques, eateries. We loved the mercier apple orchard! The manager gave my kids some apples to bring back as they made friends with a horse just up from the cabin and spent alot of time petting him over the fence :) Thanks again Barbara. We will be back!

A Quiet place to Rest
A Quiet place to Rest
What a charming, quiet retreat! Great views and a super place to stay inside to enjoy some peace and reflection. The owner/renter was MORE than gracious in accommodating our special needs. Thank you so much!

Poor Customer Service All Around
Poor Customer Service All Around
We stayed in this cabin during the peak of fall foliage. Its sheltered location, deck and hot tub are ideal for this time of year. However, I would be remiss to not warn any potential renter that the owner of this cabin is very difficult to work with. The leasing process is not done through the VRBO website but rather directly with the owner. This manual & non-standard process to secure the cabin was cumbersome & confusing. To make matters worse, the owner is very disorganized. Even after multiple communications were sent with my reservations dates requested in writing, the owner failed to log the correct dates on the lease and double-booked our final day with another guest. This created a very unpleasant situation for both parties. The owner was then unresponsive to our repeated attempts to contact and resolve. Rather than leave the other renters with no place to stay, our family(kids & dog included) packed up and left early. Interesting to note here too is that the other renter was never given the renter info packet with key codes & instructions. Upon payment, they received no more communication from the owner ever after sending emails and calls. They left “hoping” the owner would be there… Had we not been there “by mistake”, they would not have been able to access the cabin and would have had to drive the 6+ hours home!!! After finally reaching the owner days later, I was met with no compassion or apology, only that I should read my lease. Admittedly, the date was wrong in the lease and it went unnoticed on my end. However, after repeated attempts to justify that I we never reserved the dates listed in the lease and the +7 emails proved as such, I was met with only “I get lots of emails” and an offer to refund a portion of single nights rent. Again, in my experience the cabin was satisfactory but the owner was not. They failed to mind details (even important ones), is disorganized and hard to work with. Worst of all, after the receipt of your payment, this owner forgets that you are a “customer” and they are a “small business”.

Owner response: I needed to let some time pass before responding to this review. I was very surprised, and this is the first negative review that I’ve received in five years. I have been operating in the same way that entire time. As I sit here reflecting on why I rent my cabin, I’m reminded of two things. First, the wonderful world of internet is a dangerous place to post inaccurate and mean-spirited comments. Perhaps we keep the illusion that we remain invisible and hold no responsibility for what we print. I am also reminded that it is essential to review a lease, for terms of stay, payment, checkout, pet clauses, and the like, before returning it to me. I rely on those leases to help keep me on track. I try to get all the information right with first submission, but there certainly have been changes needed before and since, in first drafts of the lease, made from a template. I encourage you to review carefully your lease with me. Let me be clear about this. My goal is to provide a peaceful getaway and to make a dent in expenses that help me continue to keep the place. I do note, and appreciate, that this complaining guest tossed in a few compliments about the cabin. In fact, when he first emailed me about the apparent overlap in stays, he told me that his family was having a “wonderful family weekend” when the next guest showed up at the doorstep. He independently, but of course not in the review, wrote that “the cabin was terrific.” He posts no complaints whatsoever about cleanliness of the unit, working order of what I have inside the unit, instructions for getting there, or guidelines for a great stay. It stretches the imagination, then, to go with his assessment of “poor customer service all around.” (Carolyn, my cleaning teammate, was fabulous about getting there in the next thirty minutes to clean the place for the new guest.) As to that second guest, his second-hand knowledge is just plain wrong. Legally, I had no obligation to return any money, as the stay was dictated by the lease. Nevertheless, we reached an agreement, and he waited to vent his frustrations in this public manner only after my refund posted. I certainly apologize for my part in this unfortunate interaction. I am absolutely committed to providing you with a lovely stay and with being fair as to the unexpected.
Unfortunately we were only able to stay for two nights. This is the kind of place that could feel like home pretty quickly. The cabin is very secluded and the mountain view is beautiful--better than the photos suggest. The dogs and I explored the woods behind the cabin, and they were in absolute heaven. The cabin is well-stocked with cooking utensils, extra pillows and sheets, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies. We were short bath towels in one bathroom, but were able to find an extra set in a cabinet. The upstairs bedroom is a loft (note, anything you say or do can be heard throughout the house), and we could have spent the whole weekend there enjoying the view out the windows and reading in the cozy nooks. Plenty of books and games were tucked throughout the house. The closest hiking we read about was in the Cohutta Wilderness, but even with printouts and directions from the website, our group of 6 was unable to find the trailhead...and we ran into two other couples who were in the same boat. It's is no fault of the owner's, but I mention it so that if you stay here you can get some more information in advance. The hot tub is clean, large, and filled with all the fancy jets. We had no trouble working it. The owner is very thorough in providing directions (we found it fine in the dark) and details about working everything from TVs to the beautiful gas log fireplace. I would recommend this to a friend and would stay again. It would be nice in the winter if all you wanted to do was stay in and relax.

Owner response: I'm so glad to be able to share my second home with people who seem to value many of the things I do. The review is spot on. I agree with everything she says. The Blue Ridge Chamber of Commerce should be able to help with the confusion about the trails. Just a thought.
We just returned from a 4-night stay at the cabin. The cabin is very cosy and comfortable, well furnished and maintained, and has some pluses that we just loved. The fireplace, hot tub, and kitchen are all very nice. The high def TVs, satellite, and nice beds were also great. It's extremely private at the top of the hill and we decided that it was enough to never leave during our stay. It was perfect. We'd be happy to return.

Owner response: Thank you for the review. It is my second home, and I try to treat it that way. I'm glad when others can enjoy it as much as I do.
What a lovely 3 bedroom/3 bath A-frame type "cabin". The view from the loft bedroom is gorgeous. Some of the things to love: the large hot tub on the deck (again with a view), 2 High Def tv's, open floor plan in living area, secluded at the top of the road, and nicely furnished. The village of Blue Ridge is adorable--including a fab little coffee shop where you can indulge wireless internet, small boutique shops, and great restaurants. Of course, hiking galore. So much to do and see! I've stayed in this home several times--You won't regret it.

I had a lovely stay at the cabin. It is private and quaint. It is very close to the cute shops in Blue Ridge. I also enjoyed the hot tub on the deck. It made for a relaxing and romantic setting.

What a great, relaxing experience we had at this cabin. The setting and the cabin itself are so beautiful. We particularly enjoyed the state-of-the-art kitchen with gas stovetop, the comfortable furnishings and beds, the lovely fireplace, and the proximity to the charming shopping in Blue Ridge. Oh, and the hot tub was wonderful! This lovely, clean, spacious cabin is highly recommended.

I just got home from a fabulous stay at your cabin. First we went on the Blue Ridge Train, saw great sights, took in the scenery around the Toccoa River. Then we went antiquing in the village of Blue Ridge, found some great buys. On the way to the cabin, stopped at the apple orchard for homemade jams and apples. We capped it all off relaxing in front of the great fireplace then hit the hot tub for romantic talks under the moon. I will be back, with my puppies!
