Why the Owner Chose South Bristol

Our familys have been on the island for over 100 years. We have two other homes on the island that we built and enjoy for our summer use. We built this Amish home as a spec home and can't seem to part with it.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The island is great for walking, biking, fishing, golf, tennis and especially enjoying all the fresh sea food like clams, oysters, mussles, lobsters, scallops and swordfish. Our home is know on the island for being able to host the largest parties. Every year we have a "make your own pizza" party for 30 or more.
party for 40 friends and relatives. Then there are the normal lobster and clam dinners for family reunions.

Owner's Map of South Bristol

My husband Fritz has been vacationing on the island for 60 years. I have only been here 30. We live in Denver, CO from Nov. to June and Christmas Cove the rest of the time. I am in the construction business and we had an Amish family in the building business from PA work from our plans to build the shell of this spec home. We had met them several years earlier when they came to Maine to build a 6 car barn/ studio/ loft on the island. Their work is so precise from hand hueing the 12x12 beams to using no nails, only pegs.
Our tipical day is 9 holes of golf in early morning and then home to a bit of business and gardening before we head off to lunch on our all wooden antique Lyman boat. Back in time for a tennis match and then cook a gourmet dinner for family and friends.

Having rented numerous VRBO's this most defiantly is the best one yet. Enough room for everyone to have their own space. We loved So.Bristol, the CO-OP was a cool place to hang out. Got to visit with Arnold Gamage 4th generation Gamage (a true Lobster Man). Would recommend this place to anyone.

Our South Bristol Stay

Guest: PKS1221 (Illinois)
Date of Stay: 07/18/11 Review Submitted: 08/02/11

We thoroughly enjoyed our family time at the Voelker's vacation home! All the amenities of home and then some are to be had here. Located on a quiet road, it's very clean and spacious, more than enough room for us 8 adults. Beautiful furnishings and artwork make the place very homey. We took advantage of the gas grill and large deck for meals in. The photos here really don't do it justice! Claudia was most helpful with answers to our questions and suggestions of things to do in the area. South Bristol's small town charm and friendly people were a pleasant experience. We enjoyed a short walk to great burgers and the view at the Coveside Restaurant, delicious blueberry pancakes in town at the Harborside Cafe, succulent lobsters from the Fisherman's Co-op and at Miss Ashley's, and a service at the Congregational Church on Sunday. The guys took in some rounds of golf at Wawanock, too. It's a short drive to Pemaquid Point where you can enjoy the lighthouse and the crash of the waves on the rocks, and Pemaquid beach with its white sands. All these things and more made for a most enjoyable stay! We highly recommend it!!!

Memorable Family Reunion!

Guest: runrand (San Diego, CA USA)
Date of Stay: 07/31/10 Review Submitted: 09/29/10

This magnificent house was a perfect place for our two family reunion, eleven of us in all! The spacious rooms, full amenities, and gorgeous surroundings were everything we needed for a relaxing and peaceful rendezvous. We loved walking/running all over the island, eating fresh lobsters from the co-op, sampling local cuisine and even participating in a neighborhood yoga class. Much of the time we spent in or around the house, taking advantage of the comfortable areas to lounge, inside and out. The downstairs deck was a popular area to read, enjoy the sun, chat, or sleep! It was a pleasure to cook in the expansive kitchen so dining in was a fun experience. The only thing that would have made this property better was a water view but we were only steps away from the harbor and marina. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our time together in this charming house!

What a wonderful time we had in Maine, and how special my big 50 was thanks to your beautiful and spacious home in Christmas Cove. The weather was wonderful and refreshing, and I had a terrific time with my friends and family… We all agreed that the house really made the vacation… Whether we were relaxing on the deck, enjoying a glass of wine in the kitchen together, or sitting down to dinner, the memories will last a lifetime.. Thank you for everything and making my 50th birthday so special!

Lobsters, fall colors, and a great time with friends highlighted our two weeks at this fabulous house celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary. There were five couples each week, and the place was ideal. We kept the fireplace going, held an art class, had several bridge and domino contests, prepared many meals, and topped the experience off with several fun day trips. Highly recommended!

You should have more pictures up on the site. The few do not show how awesome the house really is. We stayed with our seven children and my wife's grandmother. There was plenty of room and the weather was perfect. The kids still talk about the boat ride around the island. It is within an hour of Boothbay Harbor (we went there) and several lighthouses (we went to Rockland light and Pemaquid Point light). Lobsters right from the lobstermen is only five minutes away too. We did this almost every day. We will definitely try to come back to this place. Thanks Claudia and Fritz.

The pictures do not do this home justice. The house is spectacularly beautiful and very spacious. We had 4 families staying in the home. We all had plenty of space and privacy. Each family had their own suite with a bedroom and bathroom. The yard is small, but the 6 kids 10 and under had plenty of space to play with the huge deck and driveway.

This house is incredibly beautiful, spacious, light, and airy. It is a great house to share with a large group of people. There is an enormous living/dining room so it never feels crowded, and the bedrooms are very comfortable and private. We had a wonderful time.
