My wife and I have stayed at this Adobe twice. We always pine to go back because of it's originality and the fact that it is so private and quiet. The interior is perfect for those who want to relax and get away from technology. The patio outside the bedroom is perfect for morning coffee or reading poetry while enjoying and evening glass of wine from the local winery. The patio area is perfect for cooking out and chilling out. This place in not for everybody. You have to "get" the vibe this adobe puts out to really appreciate the location. Visited in Oct 1996 and I think April of 1999

We've stayed in this house three of the last four summers and we already have our reservations for next summer. This is probably my favorite place to be. The house is just beautiful and well appointed. It has modern amenities so you can very comfortably cook and do laundry, but it still feels very remote and rustic. The house is very clean and well maintained and has satellite TV, DVD player and DVDs, a small collection of books, etc. We usually stay for three to four weeks at a time to soak up the beautiful environment and solitude. There are wonderful places to sit outside to read or contemplate and enjoy morning coffee and evening cocktails. I've slept many an hour in the hammock off the main bedroom with a book face down on my lap and a beer nearby. There are plenty of things to do within an easy drive - my daughter and I have been white water rafting and rock climbing, and we go into Taos frequently to eat or shop or sightsee. There are great restaurants in Taos and in the Taos Ski Valley. Santa Fe is also an easy drive, as is the wonderful spa and resort Ojo Caliente, which is worth at least a day trip if not a few nights. If you've never heard of Ojo Caliente please look it up - you won't be disappointed. There are many other sights to see within an easy drive, including Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch (home and studio of Georgia O'Keefe), Bandalier National Monument, Los Alamos, old mission churches, etc. Although we like to spend many days quietly enjoying the peace and solitude of the adobe, we also enjoy day tripping around to enjoy Northern New Mexico. There are plenty of places to buy groceries in Taos (Sid's is a great natural market) so stock up and then stay in Dixon and enjoy the impressive storms that pass through during monsoon season. I've seen more rainbows (and double rainbows!) in Dixon that I think I've seen in all the rest of my life. The landscapes are just stunning. I can't recommend this house highly enough. My only reluctance in writing this review is that I don't want the house to get too popular for us to be our annual summer reservation. I think this is the perfect getaway for beauty, peace and solitude with plenty of options for dining, shopping, museums and entertainment when you want them. Enjoy!

Our family has spent countless holidays vacationing in tthis cozy adobe escape. Our now teenage children have hiked the surrounding hills, thawed snowy mittons in the warmth of the wood stove and imagined the scope of the universe looking up at the brilliant stars in the silence of a dark evening on the back patio. And every year the house undergoes improvements, making each return even more comfortable than the trip before. The town's co-op has a great selection of local foods. Add a glass of local wine and voila: cooking the family meal in the adobe's becomes part of the relaxing family vacation. The grand dining table makes gathering around for dinner and games a treat. The home's tasteful decor, inside and out, makes staying in a vacation part of the experience in and of itself. And the home's location makes a host of outdoor, artistic and cultural activites easily accssible. There truly is something for everyone in the family at this adobe It is a great place for making family memories!

We have stayed at "Adobe at the Edge of the Wilderness" every year for the past 6 or so years. Being long time visitors to The Land of Enchantment, we have rented many a place in New Mexico but this house is by far our favorite. Dixon is a delightful little village and trips to Santa Fe, Taos and the surrounding areas are easy outings. Once you stay at the house, you might find that you want to hurry with your sightseeing so you can get back to Dixon for some of the most wondrous scenery in Northern New Mexico. This scenery is right out the door of Adobe at the Edge of the Wilderness. Relaxing on the ramada and watching the ever changing New Mexico sky is a spiritual experience any time of the year. Hiking in the mountains that surround the house is truly a very powerful and peaceful experience. This quaint little house is loaded with charm and we have always found it in immaculate condition every time we visited. The tower bedroom with it's awesome views of the box canyon is a real treat. The back portal off the downstairs bedroom is a perfect spot for morning coffee as you watch the sun rise over the hills to the east. The beds are super comfortable and the kitchen is just right for preparing that much loved vacation breakfast. The native plantings and meadow garden in the yard are an ideal spot to sit and watch the birds of this area. This house is simply but perfectly appointed and everything you need is provided for you. The owners, Nora and Jeff are super nice folks and we can't say thank you to them often enough for sharing thier little piece of paradise with us over the years. Ric & Brian Vivian, LA

This is the perfect place for folks that want to truly escape! It's a beautiful old adobe on an incredible piece of land that looks out onto a gorgeous landscape. There's great outdoor space for relaxing (covered patio with hammock off the bedroom and a separate shaded sitting area near the house) and lots of land behind the house for hiking. Dixon has a great little co-op with grocery essentials, a new restaurant (Zuly's Cafe) that is great, and my favorite is Vivac Winery (there are a couple others, too). We'd spend the entire day relaxing at the house. Head into Zuly's for lunch and then stop at Vivac for a bottle of rose to drink on the patio and watch the sunset. If you want a lot of hustle and bustle, this isn't the place for you but if you're looking to really relax and get away from it all in a beautiful, peaceful place, stop looking, this is the one!

Our family spent a week in Dixon just recently. We had the best fun. Dixon is the perfect spot to stay.We found the people so genuine and helpful, the coop shop has just about everything you would need, with two vineyards nearby you are set.My husband and I enjoyed quiet morning reading on the porches, while our teenage daughters slept in.There is an air of tranquility to the house and it's environs that is rejuvenating. We visited Taos, saw the corn dances in the pueblo, hiked in Bandolier and Ghost Ranch, went white water rafting on the RioGrande, spent a wonderful day at Ojo Caliente, visited Georgia O' Keefes home and beautiful adobe churches. Dixon is central to all the sites, easy and breath taking drives to all the places we visited. We loved the house, it is quirky and has it's own personality. We really liked the friendly and welcoming staff at Zulys restaurant in Dixon. After Dixon we spent few days in Santa Fe, which was great but we all preferred Dixon and the house on the edge of the Wilderness. We would love to go back and we recommend this house and village if you want a genuine slice of New Mexico.

If you are the kind of person who likes a busy resort/cruise type environment, then this is not for you. However, if you prefer solitude, starry nites, the sound of hummingbird wings, beautiful sunsets, scenic hikes, a glass of an excellent local wine with a loved one, or perhaps a good book while relaxing in a hammock with a gentle breeze then this is worth trying. My wife and I have stayed in this wonderful getaway many times and have come to think of it of our own escape home. It is equipped with all of the comforts you need in an absolutely wonderful setting with an abundance of opportunties for exploring the New Mexico magic. However, be forewarned - this wonderful home is addictive....

All of my expectations and my hopes were fulfilled by this home on the edge of the wilderness. Not only was there tons of hiking outside the front and back doors, but the views from the ramada were incredible, the stars were plentiful and the atmosphere was entrancing. The house itself was cozy and lovely. I particularly adored the tower bedroom. We did take various day trips and hiked other locations but I was also content to sit out on the ramada with a book - looking up periodically to watch the distant clouds shift in the sky and to see if there were any hummingbirds, if the magpies were stopping by, if the jack rabbits were parading down the arroyo and if our friendly little bunny was wandering around. We were there with another couple but it would also be a great place for a romantic get-away. Next time (yes I hope there will be a next time) I might spend more time at the house and also go to Valle Caldera for a long visit - so beautiful. Also I recommend the Wild Rivers area in addition to Ghost Ranch - definitely take the landscape tour where you will see what is NOT public.

Secluded but not isolated was perfect for us. The house itself is a dream come true, beautiful, quiet, quaint. The night sky, the sweet smells from the herb gardens, the hikes around the arroyos, hills and canyons, were just what we needed. It's a perfect place to base yourselves for day trips to beautiful, otherworldly places. At times we felt we were indeed on another planet. New Mexico itself was a wonderful surprise. We've never seen landscape change so quickly and unexpectedly. We never knew what spectacular sight we were going to encounter, each time we came to the top of a hill. We took wonderful day trips, driving back roads for the vistas and visiting small towns and villiages. We met some of the nicest and most welcoming people. We would recommend visiting the Wildlife Center in Espanola which is small but very interesting and informative. Dining at Ebudo Station was excellent, we tried to sample the wares at Sugars BBQ, but the popularity of the place made that impossible, they kept running out of rib dinners. There are a number of places to purchase food, toiletries, etc., in Espanola. The weather was perfect for our stay in Dixon, warm and breezy with only one thunderstorm during the night. My husband and I would highly recommend this vacation home. Having never been out West, this was an exciting and satisfying trip, with no disapointments. Janet and Chris Portland, Maine

Before we arrived, I wondered if this place would really be as nice as in the photos. Believe me, it is even better in person! My husband and I spent a fantastic 2.5 weeks here in May-June. It is a perfect getaway. Three porches, with a hammock and other comfy seating, all with beautiful views. And hiking right outside the door. The interior is lovely and comfortable, with a good kitchen and living/dining room. We loved sleeping in the tower bedroom. Santa Fe and Taos are both less than an hour away, and there are a number of yummy restaurants and wineries closer by. All in all, this place was worth every penny. It is perfect for anyone who wants to have a peaceful, relaxing vacation, away from it all. I hope to go back!
