Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn are immaculate character cottages which have recently renovated (completed spring 2012) and equipped to an excellent standard. Rated 5 star by Visit Wales, they are beautifully presented to retain a truly cosy and charming atmosphere.
Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn are a pair of character semi-detaced cottages constructed around 1900 in the beautiful coastal village of Borth-y-Gest, North Wales.
Outside, the balconies and front gardens provide a glorious coastal vista across Tremadog Bay to the Snowdonia mountains beyond. All the rooms to the front of Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn also benefit from these unobstructed views.
Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn both sleep a maximum of 8 people (plus one cot) in 4 bedrooms.
Should Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn be rented out together the total available accomodation would be for 16 people (plus two cots).
Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn provide the ideal holiday destination from which to explore the fantastic beaches, beautiful mountains, picturesque villages, and the host of activities Northwest Wales has to offer. An excellent range of attractions awaits visitors to Bryn Gwyn, with wildlife centres, outdoor activities, train trips, historic sites, museums, fine gardens, golf and more to choose from.
In the immediate vicinity the sands at Borth-y-Gest are of particular interest to birdwatchers as they are home to a wide variety of species of birds including oystercatchers, redshanks and curlew, as well as winter visitors such as goldeneye, great crested grebe and wigeon. Summer brings flocks of sandwich terns.
Several beautiful beaches are within easy walking distance along the well maintained coastal path leading directly from the village centre. The sea is safe to swim on a low to incoming tide.
Meanwhile the village is largely surrounded by woodland, much of it deciduous and dominated by ancient Welsh oaks. Directly to the rear of Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn is Parc y Borth nature reserve. Parc y Borth woods is a local nature reserve long popular with walkers and ornithologists, and among the birdlife you might be lucky to spot green woodpeckers, tawny owls and pied flycatchers. An extensive network of paths will lead you from a public footpath running alongside Tegfryn through the woods to the top of a crag with extensive views of the Glaslyn and Dwyryd estuaries.
The road leading into Borth-y-Gest is a no-through road so that the roads are very quiet, being occupied by local traffic only.
A 10 minute walk to the east will take you into the popular harbour town of Porthmadog where there is a large selection of shops and restaurants. A harbour town with an impressive marina is situated on the Glaslyn Estuary. Porthmadog is rich in maritime history and in times gone by, it was a vital, busy shipping port for the international slate trade, brought down from Blaenau Ffestiniog.
Both the Welsh Highland Railway and Ffestiniog Railway can be boarded at Porthmadog.
The stunning location of the Porthmadog golf club is only one mile from Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn. The links golf course offers an intriguing mixture of heathlands and linksland for the discerning golfer.
The Snowdonia National Park begins a mere 2 miles from Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn and is a magnificent playground for those who love walking, mountain climbing or just scenery watching.
The Park covers 823 square miles of diverse landscapes. As well as being the largest National Park in Wales, Snowdonia boasts the highest mountain in Wales, and the largest natural lake in Wales, as well as a wealth of picturesque villages like Beddgelert (8miles).
Snowdonia is renowned for being a very special place for walkers with mountain peaks, lakes, forests, rivers and coastal areas. The National Park is working on developing a network of walks and more will be added every year. In addition Snowdonia National Park has a vast amount of cycling and mountain biking trails suitable for all abilities. The Park also hosts other outdoor activities such as white water rafting and climbing.
Portmeirion is a popular tourist village located just outside of Porthmadog, approximately 3 miles from Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn. It is Wales’ 3rd largest visitor attraction attracting 250, 000 visitors in 2009.
Portmeirion was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 in the style of an Italian village, which is now is now acknowledged as a unique architectural work of art. The village is now owned by a charitable trust.
The village stands on a rugged cliff top on its own private peninsula overlooking Cardigan Bay. It is surrounded by 145 acres of sub-tropical woodlands and miles of sandy beaches. The village has always been run as a hotel, which uses the majority of the buildings as hotel rooms, together with shops, a cafe, tea-room, and restaurant.
Portmeirion has served as the location for numerous films and television shows, most famously serving as The Village in the 1960s television show The Prisoner. The show became a cult classic, and fans continue to visit Portmeirion, which hosts annual Prisoner fan conventions.
Further afield are the attractive towns of Criccieth, Beddgelert, Harlech, Pwllheli, Nefyn and Abersoch.

Bryn Gwyn enjoys tranquil seclusion enabling guests to peacefully enjoy the stunning views from the garden, balcony, lounge, kitchen/ diner and two front bedrooms. Bryn Gwyn sleeps 8 (plus 1 cot). There is spacious living accommodation downstairs with a kitchen/ diner, a front lounge with wood burner, a rear sitting room/ snug with games console etc and a downstairs WC. There are 4 bedrooms upstairs; one king with en-suite, one double, one twin and one bunk. There is also a family bathroom located upstairs. Access to the balcony is off the landing. Access to the front garden is via the kitchen French windows or front door. A picnic bench with seating for 8 people is located in the front garden to enjoy the magnificent views. A BBQ is also available. A small back courtyard area is also available to hang washing, store bikes and wash muddy boots etc. Heating (gas central heating), electricity, gas, linen, towels, wi-fi access and a welcome hamper are all included in the tariff.

We stayed at Bryn-Gwyn for the weekend recently and had a fantastic time. We found everything we needed was there and the addition of highchair and travel cot was great. All of the rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished giving a real home from home feeling. We found the property clean and very well maintained. It's understanable why it has 5 stars from Visit Wales! The views are wonderful and really add to the holiday feeling!! We made the easy walk along the costal path to the beach on the Saturday and enjoyed a very sunny day on the beach!! This place is a gem. The view is just wonderful, and it's so quiet but for the various birdsong. The house is really nicely done out, and equipped with absolutely everything you didn't even know you needed. Really friendly, easy-to-contact owner and plenty of info on how things work and what to do in the area. We stayed in Bryn Gwyn with family for a long weekend to celebrate my dad's birthday. The house was perfect, it was clean, bright, beautifully decorated and furnished and had everything you would ever need. The views of the sea and mountains are stunning and you can enjoy it just as much from the house as being down on the beach! We stayed in Bryn Gwyn with friends and the accommodation couldn't have suited us better! There is plenty of room for everyone to do their own thing and also to get together either round the table or in one of the two sitting rooms. Yes, there are two! So the children can go and watch the television without bothering the adults. Or vice versa. The bedrooms are beautifully appointed and the bed that we sletp in was comfy cosy. The whole package was so easy to settle into quickly and had none of the small snags which are so often found in holiday properties. We returned to Borth y Gest after 30 years (this time with grandchildren) to find it as lovely as ever. Nothing has changed and there is plenty to do locally for all the family. Bryn Gwyn is in a lovely position with spectacular views across the estuary. It is extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean and bright and very comfortable. We loved this cottage - so well equipped & with classical decor - fresh & spacious. Excellent for gatherings arond the large dining table in the 'kitchen-with-views'. Two living rooms meant we were never on top of each other. The bathrooms were bright & white & the showers piping hot. We made use of the upstairs balcony & had morning coffee & an evening glass of wine or two there in the evening, whilst of course admiring the view over Borth-Y-Gest. We were even able to sit out in the garden enjoying the sunshine. And yes, the view is even better than the photos suggest. A lovely location for walking or just dreaming! Over from New Zealand for a holiday and was lucky enough to stay in this lovely house with friends. The house is very well appointed and immaculate with everything needed to make our stay comfortable. Having two lounges with televisions + plenty of seating meant we could either all be together or split and do our own thing. Wii a very good idea in back lounge. Lovely, well appointed kitchen/diner with excellent appliances. The views are just amazing from practically every room and we had sunshine at the beginning of our stay and then snow on the top of the mountains on the last day which looked fantastic. Would like to return in the summer next time so that we could sit on the balcony sipping wine! Borth-y-Gest is a good location for travelling around with Port Meirion and Porthmadoc close by. Wonderful family holiday spent in Tegfryn. House has been recently refurbished to a very high standard - tastefully decorated, lovely cosy feel, all mod cons. Rooms are very spacious and bright with amazing views from the front windows and balcony. Having 2 lounges was great - our 12 year old son was very happy to play on the wii in the back room and we were happy to have peace and quiet in the front! Borth-Y-Gest is a lovely tranquil location where time stands still. Close enough to Porthmadog if you want somewhere busier - we walked it in 15 mins.
