Holy bear cubs, this place is amazing! I arrived with my seven new human friends and two new canine friends at this pet-friendly mountain home and had to immediately check out every room in the house. Everything was just as the photos depicted and then some! We walked downstairs, saw the pool table, and it was all over. Game on! Between the pool table and the hot tub, I’m not sure which was the bigger hit.

The home is wonderfully decorated to make visitors feel comfortable. Even the large open areas had a cozy atmosphere. DirecTV is provided in each of the bedrooms. In the kitchen we found everything we needed to cook our meals. For those of you who like outdoor barbecues, there was a nice new grill.

If you prefer to dine out, you'll find some rustic and unique places to choose from in town. Our favorite was The Red Ram! For a great after-dinner treat, we stopped at Georgetown Valley Candy Company, where they make most of their own candy by hand.

Looking for adventure? It’s all around! Check out the hiking trails, starting with the one just outside the front door. There’s also my favorite activity - fishing! Georgetown Lake is just down the hill. Scenery abounds! All you need to do is look out the windows and right up a mountain.

If you’re looking for a mountain getaway, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed with this top notch vacation rental!

I can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was in Georgetown. The home is beautiful, spacious and was absolutely perfect for our large family getaway. We had 14 adults and 5 children (under the age of 4). The kids enjoyed "camping" out in a tent in the large downstairs room and everyone slept comfortably in the rooms. The kitchen and dining area was large enough to accommodate all our cooking and meal times for our large group. The trails around the house were great to go hiking on and we enjoyed our visit to the very quaint downtown area in Georgetown. If there were any issues that came up, Butch was very responsive and made sure that everything was in working order for us. We never got around to using the hot tub so I can't speak for that. We experienced some great weather, from sunshine, to hail, to snow and rain! We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Thank you again for opening up your home to us. We absolutely loved our stay!

We had a group of right around 20 come and stay here for a Ski Trip recently and this was the perfect lodge for our group. Georgetown was a great location to access our Ski Resort quickly everyday and this lodge had everything we needed. I would recommend this lodge to anyone interested in hosting a group from 10 to 25 people. The owners were great to work with and we would definitely stay here again for our Ski Trip.

We three families spent three nights in Georgetown. The house is very well maintained and all facilities are functioning properly. Kids like the wood burning stove in the living room and the jumping bed in the basement. You do need to bring a ultrasound humidifier though if you are coming in winter. There is only one humidifier in the house and it makes noise when running at night.

Having rented a few other vacation properties I was prepared to be disappointed but from Day one the owners worked with me to make things go well. When I arrived the property was in excellent condition and the on-site rules were sane and reasonable(one previous place required you leave it immaculate or they would bill you extra). Every minute of the stay was wonderful, the view was great and all my guests had an excellent time. I will be coming back.

Last weekend 14 of my female relatives gathered in CO for our second annual Ya Ya Sister Weekend and we had the unique experience of staying at the Saxon Mountain Retreat. I can't imagine a better setting for us as we came together from CO, NE, TX, FL and MT. The kitchen and dining room became the area where laughter, conversation, food, drink and crafts came together over our 4 day stay. We had a day outing in Idaho Springs at the Indian Hot Springs Spa and Resort which was awesome! Some of our group did the Georgetown Loop Railroad experience and others enjoyed shopping downtown in Georgetown. If you are looking for a great place to stay, amazing gathering space and a true get away from it all, this is the place you are looking for!

What a great home with plenty of space! I love how equipped the kitchen was. The hot tub was warm and ready for us when we arrived too :-) Besides our suitcases full of clothes, we really didn't need anything else as Saxon Mountain Retreat was fully stocked for all of our daily needs. We felt right at home! Deb & Butch (owners) were incredibly helpful and went over and above for us. The only negatives I would say is being so tucked into the beautiful mountain, the trucks from I-70 can be heard from any room in the house. We live near an airport, so those sounds were not real troublesome, but for those that are expecting a quiet mountain setting, not so much. Also, with this being such a fabulous home for large and/or multiple families, high traffic flow, and pets, I would suggest removing the white carpeting that is throughout the home. The stains on the carpeting were visible. However, we did feel the house was clean otherwise. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this home to any of our friends and family. We loved the small town feel from the friendly people in Georgetown. Every bit of what the owners recommended for us to do or see was as awesome as they said it would be. We had a great stay and wonderful vacation in Colorado and at the Saxon Mountain Retreat!

This was an absolutely amazing place. We found ourselves finding more and more little surprises while staying here (Oh, and on this patio is a hot tub, in this closet is a fitness center...) This has been the nicest VRBO we have ever rented. The owners were amazing to work with, and there was _plenty_ of room for everyone. Would definitely rent this place again in the future!

Spent a long weekend with grad school buddies. Owner was responsive and helpful, a big plus. Huge property, plenty of sleeping room, nice amenities like the hot tub and pool table. Not an isolated location, quite a few homes around. So if you are looking for a secluded hideaway, this is not quite it. But for a great place that could fit several families, and proximity to ski resorts and Denver, it would be hard to beat.

We stayed at this property over the Thanksgiving holiday and had a wonderful time. The place is HUGE and had everything we could have dreamed of needing during our stay. We traveled with a friend who is a gourmet chef and she had everything she needed and plenty of space to cook us a giant Thanksgiving meal. There are also two big dining room tables which were more than enough for our guests. It was quiet and a great retreat. Some of us did puzzles and relaxed during the day, some went skiing, and some went hiking every day. It was also close enough to the town so we could run down and grab items we forgot for dinner. We brought our dogs with us and they were very welcome there which made us feel comfortable. The dogs had a great time hiking with us and running up and down the mountain. It was easy to find and easy to access from I70. We had a few members of our party who had to drive back to Denver to work some days and the drive was just under an hour - completely doable. It was also only about a 20 minute drive to A-Basin. A perfect in-betweener. The owners of this property were wonderful and worked with us so we got their best rate. The place was super clean and prepared for us. This place is awesome! -Highly recommended.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2003

About the owner: Hi, Welcome to Saxon Mountain Retreat! After living in Breckenridge for 27 years (let it snow, snow, snow) we needed to find a more sane and relaxing location. This is Georgetown! At Saxon Mountain, we found the PERFECT home for our active lifestyle-hiking and biking right from our front door. We especially like NOT having to live with a snow shovel in my purse. We LOVE the evening walks to see the deer, fox and other critters that abound. We know you will love our custom home and its spaciousness, warmth and many momentos from our travels!

                      Why the Owner Chose Georgetown:
Georgetown is centrally located for all of the Rocky Mountain outdoor recreation activites we could want plus we have 7 world class ski resorts within a hours drive. There is historic Central City and Blackhawk casinos within the hour. Two nation scenic byways, 4 fourteeners, gold and silver mines, museums, and hot springs are all right here or very close by.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Besides the hiking and wildlife exposure that starts right at the front door, we can fish in Clear Creek or walk the Continental Divide. It's nice to be able to quickly get to Denver for a Bronco game, or a Rockies baseball game and then come home to peace and quiet, cool summer air and great neighbors.
