We had a wonderful relaxing time at Sunshine Paradise. It is a beautiful place with beautiful gardens right on the water. It was so pleasant to wake up in the mornings and walk out to the veranda and see the sea. One of our favorite things to do was to walk the beach every morning. When we arrived on Saturday Gertrud took us to the grocery store so we were able to buy food for our visit. Since it was our first visit to Barbados we rented a car and explored the island, visiting different beaches, walked through a tropical rain forest and saw the beautiful North Point. Barbados is truly a beautiful Island and the people are very friendly. The property was very nicely decorated, clean and we would certainly recommend this place.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Two of my sisters and I spent a wonderful 10 nights here. The apartment is just as described and pictured! Gertrud gave great directions for the taxi driver, so no difficulty finding the place. Gertrud offered to take us to get groceries the first morning, but an easy walk to the store for us. How convenient to have our own breakfast and lunch, so only needed to buy evening meals daily, and we found that 2 meals were sufficient for the three of us....more money to enjoy the sites! We literally had no problem walking up and down the beach the first 3 days. A lovely art studio within walking distance, and the best beach restaurant and bar, Weisers on the Bay, and easy walk every evening. We did rent a car for 3 days to explore the island, but bus within walking distance, and taxis reasonably priced. NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL about this rental. If I ever get to Barbados again, I will definitely stay here. Gertrud gave us fresh coconuts and she even built a fire on her private beach last evening, and we introduced her to S'mores! We visited the Animal Flower Caves, Oistins, Welchman Hall Gully, a great art studio in Speightstown, drove to the East Coast...and my favorite, the Zipline. Actually wish we'd had the car longer to visit some pottery places, but driving is not for the faint of heart for those of us used to driving on the right side of the road. Gertrud was a wealth of knowledge of things to see and do, and I don't know when I have ever been so relaxed on a vacation! Thank you, Gerturd, and I hope to see you again some day!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed at Sunshine Paradise for a week for our honeymoon, and it was perfect for us! We rented a car, and we could easily access the rest of the island from the apartment. Gertrud, the owner, was very helpful whenever we needed it, and still gave us plenty of privacy (she lives downstairs). The kitchen is very simple but perfect for breakfast. There's no central air, but there is an air conditioner under the four-poster bed that cools off the apartment pretty well when combined with a fan. The beach here is great—there's often no more than a handful of people on the beach—and we loved having our own small pool. While it's not within walking distance to restaurants, you can hop in the car and be on the busy west coast in about 5 minutes. We loved the open air kitchen and dining room, and we spent a lot of time there enjoying the sun and the ocean. We would HIGHLY recommend Sunshine Paradise for other young couples or honeymooners looking for a more private, quiet getaway. We live very busy lives so it was amazing to be able to relax and enjoy the beautiful island paradise that Gertrud has created at Sunshine Paradise. And there are monkeys that live in the tree nearby, so we had a lot of fun with that. Many locals were impressed that we were staying on Brighton Beach, which is calm and very beautiful.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE A JUNG COUPLE AS MY GUESTS THANKS FOR YOUR REWIEW GERTRUD

This was our first experience with VRBO and we were delighted. Gertrud was a knowledgable and genial owner. Her hospitality included introducing us to the joys of breadfruit roasted in the firepit on the beach under the stars. Heavenly. The listing description and photos were accurate but could never capture the magic of the place. Brighton Beach is right outside the gate - wonderful beach for swimming, walking, people watching and connecting with the friendly and polite Bajans (I kept thinking how sad it is that we have lost those niceties in urban Canada). We ate in for about half of our meals - the kitchen is basic but servicable. Gertrud drove us to the new grocery store up the hill to stock up on food and Bajan rum. We found 2 great restaurants within walking distance. We recommend renting a car and touring the island. The villages are closer together than it looks on the map and we had many adventures getting lost. We loved Speightstown (up island about 25 minutes) -a fishing village with lots of character and great for purchasing local produce. One of the best parts of each day was after dinner when we would sit up on the rooftop deck - watching the sun set, the cruise ships come in and out and listening to the whistling frogs and mourning doves. Thanks Gertrud for sharing your home with us - we have recommended to everyone we know!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Fazit: Auf nach Barbados in's sunshine paradiseRecommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

Our family just spent 11 wonderful nights at Gertrud's home. The location was perfect in so many ways, great view, beach for swimming, watched cruise ships and fishing boats each day from the deck. Very comfy beds and plenty of room for the three of us! Gertrud keeps her yard immaculate and she takes pride in doing so. She was a kind hearted host and helped us with directions for everything. Every morning we would wake up to the cooing of the doves and in the evening you could hear the waves. We spent so much time enjoying the large open deck for cooking and just hanging out. Couldn't get out of the water, it was so enjoyable. We were also entertained by a couple of monkey's living in the trees and were able to get some great pictures of them. Would highly recommend this location. Look forward to returning some day! Thanks Gertrud for being apart of making our vacation memorable.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I can't begin to describe how great this location was! This house is in front of Sunshine Paradise; even closewr to the beach! There is a beautiful bedroom upstairs with catherdral ceilings and a private bathroom; you can walk out from your bedroom to your own private deck with INCREDIBLE views of the caribean sea. Downstairs you have another bedroom with its own bathroom, living room, kitchen, another bathroom, entry way, and another deck with beautiful views! This place is truly PARADISE! Gertud was the best hostess we have ever had. I can't wait to go back to Barbados and stay at Getrud's Little Paradise!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We just returned from 10 wonderful days at this studio apartment on Brighton Beach. We have been to Barbados several times before, but never to this location, and we were delighted with our accommodations as well as the beach! Our favourite spot was the large covered veranda from which we could watch the cruise ships coming in first thing in the morning, the sail boats or fishing boats later in the day, all while eating our breakfast. It was quiet, restful and private, but Gertrud was always available and helpful when needed - a great hostess. We are already looking forward to our next vacation there! Ausgezeichnet, Gertrud!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: My pleasure- as they say here in Barbados.Love to see you back here!

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at your home for nine beautiful days in January 2011! The best vision we have is of eating breakfast and dinner looking out at the beach. How perfect it is to be able to cook and eat your meals outside overlooking the beach. It was so wonderful to be able to hear the waves. Gertrud was a wonderful host. She gave us limes and coconuts and pointed us the way to get fresh flying fish. She maintains the property wonderfully - there are so many varieties of plants. Her knowledge of the island was a big help in getting around and where to go. The pictures she shows are exactly what it looks like. We looked at them again when we came home and were taken right back to her home. The living conditions were clean and comfortable. The beach is right there just like in the pictures. It was so convenient and we could not get out of the water as it was so wonderful. After traveling around the island, we know we made the right choice in staying at Sunshine Paradise. If we come to Barbados again, we would certainly stay with you again if it were available.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We can all highly recommend this house. We spent as a family with two children and a baby three wonderful weeks in April with Gertrude and Bernd. They have everything done so we could enjoy a carefree and relaxing holiday. The house and the garden is really a "Sunshine Paradise" with a beautiful beach. The children have enjoyed next to the sea also the pool very much and we would love to come back again to this great place. The island has much to offer and it's worth to rent a car and take enough time. Many thanks. Maybe we will meet again in Switzerland!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

My husband and I spent a very relaxing, pleasant, and interesting 2 weeks here in Early February of 2010. The characterful, light-filled condo is the second floor of a house owned by two doctors. It is located in a quiet neighborhood right on the beach. Dr. Gertrud Siebel, who goes by Gia, was a very helpful, thoughtful host, without being intrusive. The Siebel's added the second floor condo, which has its own private entrance, soaring ceilings and tasteful, simple decor. We prepared meals and ate on the broad, covered verandah overlooking Gertrud's lovely garden and pool and the ocean, a few feet from the house. The Siebel's condo suited our needs perfectly.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Did you find this review helpful? We stayed here for 10 days in Feb. /09 and had the most wonderful time. Bernd & Gertrud were the best hosts anyone could imagine. Very helpful and generous and we can't wait to return to Sunshine Paradise. We rented a car and travelled all over the island. We found that there was a great deal to see and do, but the feeling is that renting a car is the way to go. Would certainly return here. Very romantic and relaxing.Did you find this review helpful? First, some background on us!I am family doctor and hubby is a surgeon. When we travel we prefer to spend our money on great restaurants and sport activities like golf, sailing and walking. However, we still expect to stay in nice but reasonable accomodations. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The outdoor patio area is just wonderful and the best part of staying here. We spent many hours just watching the sailboats and cruise ships sail by.Loved swinging in the hammock. The beach is superb for swimming and walking ( about 2 miles long). Gertrud Siebel is a very good host. Respects your privacy but still very helpful and friendly. FYI- Kitchen doesn't have a stove, just a cooktop and grill. You will need to bring a hair dryer as none is provided. I would also recommend a car. There is a taxi service up the street but if the owner isn't available it can be a bit of a hassle and a long wait to get another taxi to come and get you. The bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is large, clean with neutral tile decor. Not fancy but lots of hot water and good pressure. Living room area consists of 2 loveseats that have seen better days. You can't really lie down on them but they are comfortablre to sit in. TV has full satellite coverage. The gardens around the house are spectacular. Flowers and birds everywhere. We woke up every morning to the cooing of the many mourning doves that live in the garden.Lots of hummingbirds and finches of some type. We really enjoyed ourselves and recommend this place for couples. We would return without hesitation. Thanks for your hospitality Gertrud!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

My family and I enjoyed a wonderful week with the Siebels in February. As reported, they offer such a rare combination of hospitality and privacy, and they were especially kind to our two small children. The apartment itself (really more than just a studio) was immaculate and beautifully situated. I could swim in th ocean while keeping an eye on my daughter as she read on the deck. None of us wanted to leave, and indeed we will be back. Thank you! That is all. JhDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

we have just returned from a wonderful stay at Sunshine Paradise. The Siebel's could not have been more hospitable, whilst also being very discrete. The out-door kitchen made cooking seem a joy rather than a chore. We especially enjoyed the fresh fish delivered to the gate by the fishermen along the beach. The Siebels invited us on a trip to see the local flora in a hidden gully, and provided maps and directions to help us enjoy the remoter parts of the north and east coasts. We loved every aspect of our holiday and intend to return as soon as possible. David and Linda Drake.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We are a Cdn. Dentist and Hygienist couple who found Sunshine Paradise in early 2005 strictly by enthusiastic word-of-mouth. We wearied of cheek-by-jowl tourists around the pools and beaches in so called swank hotels in Barbados and other BWI Islands. This beach front studio is elegant, absolutely safe and private (accomodations gated) and simply a joy! Secluded but with east access to shopping (Bridgetown), fine dining and recreation. The owners (The Siebels) are warm, friendly, informative and helpful without imposing on privacy. Excellent value. You will be both thrilled and very content!Did you find this review helpful?
