Centro Historico house description
This is a centuries old house of 'original construction.' Exact dating unavailable due to revolutionary destruction of municipal records in early 20th C., but the thick walls which hold coolness in heat of day, the interior courtyard, the scallop shell decorative motifs [reference to St. John's baptisms with sea shell] and the very central location adjacent to Parrochia all confirm its authenticity.
Large 'great room' [15' x 35'] adjacent to kitchen [cocina] with 2 sinks, refrigerator, gas stove, water cooler, fully furnished, and the courtyard with fountain, flowers and plantings and garden furnishings.
Large Master bedroom with large closet and a full bath on first floor adjacent to kitchen and courtyard.
Alhambral bedroom of Moorish design with 2 single beds off courtyard with full bath.
Rooftop 'Casita' bedroom with large closet and a full bath adjacent to spectacular rooftop view of Parrochia next door and scenic surrounding hills and sunsets behind Parrochia Dome!
Wonderfully convenient to all centro advantages: Post office, DHL office, money exchanges and banks, restaurants, shopping, and the Jardin.

The location cannot be beat
The location cannot be beat
Harry communicated very clearly and in a timely manner to set up the rental of Casa Solano. I really appreciated that. In his words, "The location cannot be beat." The house is just around the corner from El Jardin, and as the photos show the Parroquia dominates the view from the rooftop terrace (though there is a chain link fence marring that view somewhat). The house itself is delightful and beautiful, which the photos also clearly demonstrate. There is plenty of room to spread out with three nice rooms for sleeping. One downstairs room has a single bed, the master bedroom has a king size, and the bed upstairs is a double. Each bedroom has a bathroom either off of it or across from it (in the case of the downstairs patio room). There is a washing machine and also a dryer, which is not common in Mexico. Also, the hot water tank is a full sized one, not an "on demand" tank which is the usual for Mexico. Things were done right here for a comfortable stay. The wireless is really only useable in the living/dining room due to the thick stone walls blocking the signal to the rest of the house. The kitchen is very good for cooking and has most basic cooking tools. There are not, however, any "starter" ingredients other than salt and pepper, so anything else needed must be purchased. There were also not umbrellas, which would be handy to have in the summer rainy season when it can really pour rain. The church bells, which are ubiquitous in Mexico, are very clearly heard but do not ring "all night". We did not find them to bother our sleep. The fountain was very charming to have on for sleeping and otherwise. What one does NOT hear in the house is traffic (though there is a fair amount of auto traffic on Solano) or dogs barking all night (which can be a problem in Mexico). We needed to wait a fair while on the street for Lucha to arrive after we had arrived (despite two phone calls regarding our arrival time), but otherwise she was a tremendous help (arranging an electrician, for example, when we had a short circuit in a fuse). Juan the gardener is extremely friendly, and Lupita will spend the day with you when it's her cleaning day. They keep the place up well, are friendly, but will otherwise be hanging out with you on their work days (especially Lupita). If we were to return to San Miguel with children we would definitely stay here again. Otherwise, for a couple the house is pretty big. It's a great place to use as a base for San Miguel.

I have stayed at Casa Sollano on several trips over recent years. I have also rented several other when Sollano was unavailable. I LOVE!! This house; beside the perfect location, the great Lucha and Angelica, it is just the best.

CLOSE TO PERFECT!!
CLOSE TO PERFECT!!
pictures do not lie...and Harry's property was as beautiful as the photos. Our family spent 6 days at this property and enjoyed everything about it. We spent most of our time at the large table in the great room, or lounging on the patio (savoring the sound of the fountain!) We used the kitchen in the morning for coffee and pastries, and in the evening for a glass of wine before heading to dinner. We had many excellent meals, but one standout was the 2 for 1 drinks with tapas at the Rosewood Lounge on Tuesday nights. The view from the rooftop bar was spectacular! We dealt with both Lucha and Angelica who were prompt and professional with their responses. The location was excellent. The only drawback to me was the "ringing" of the church bells ALL night!!

Owner response: Great! So glad you had a good time . . . . . Church bells don't actually ring ALL night long, and I hardly hear them after a while in any case . . . hope you will return in the not too distant future . . . .
Overall, we had a wonderful stay. We have stayed at several properties in SMA over the years, but this one was the nicest. The location makes up for the few problems we had. 1) When we arrived, almost every light bulb in the place was burned out. This should have been attended to prior to our arrival. Lucha changed some of them, but not all of them worked after she left. As the wiring is in general very sub-standard (e.g. sockets dangling by their wires) we were unwilling to try to change any of the other bulbs. After dark, the only usable bathroom was the master bath. 2) The ad says there is a CD player. No one seemed able to locate it, so the 24 CDs we brought were mostly useless. We were able to have a LITTLE Christmas music by using the DVD player, but it could not be heard beyond the living room. The many poinsettias Lucha placed around the patio were a nice touch, though. The cleaning lady, who we were told by the office would be there on Mondays for 2 hours, is actually there from 11-4, and she is VERY slow. We left and she was still there when we returned a little after 4. We would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful family SMA experience!
Wonderful family SMA experience!
My wife and I returned to San Miguel after a 27 year absence. Harry's house was perfect! Location, ambience, versatility and dealing with Harry and his associates in SMA was flawless. From Leon airport to the door and return all was arranged with one phone call. We would LOVE to do this again.

What a wonderful place. It is only a block off the Jardin and close to everything in SMA Centro. We had two parties with over 40 people and we were not close to being crowded. Lupita cooked for us on three occasions including one of the parties. What a wonderful person. I would highly recommend this home to anyone visiting SMA.

We had a wonderful time in our home away from home in San Miguel. It is a very comfortable house and is very close to the Jardin which makes it very nice for shopping. The kitchen is very adequate if you want to cook, but there are many wonderful restaurants in San Miguel. The maid and gardener were very nice and Juan, the gardener, speaks very good english. Angelica was very helpful and we would use her transfer service from Leon. Would defintely stay here again.

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed staying at your house. The locations was amazing! I had very few problems and Lucha helped me with the ones I had. Just one suggestion: get a corkscrew and some wine glasses. Other than that it was perfect. Hope to rent the house again in the future.

We spent a delightful week in August in this beautiful house that is only steps away from the Jardin. The house is the classic Mexican house with an interior patio and bold clay colors throughout. It is easy to cook in or step out for meals in the restaurants that abound in the area.
