Puamana Oceanfront Townhouse

Memories made to last a lifetime.

Guest: Christi (Santa Cruz, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/12/11 Review Submitted: 11/20/11

We took our family of six to live a month at Puamana last summer and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. This townhome felt more like a house than anything, with plenty of space and comfortable beds to fit all of us and more. The pictures are accurate - but cannot convey the beauty well enough. Our arrival was breathtaking from the minute we saw lovely front door, until we walked through to see our view we would enjoy for the next 30 days. The kitchen has so many appliances exactly like ours at home so that was an added comfort, but I do agree it is light on cooking implements. The air conditioning was used really only at nighttime to keep us cool so we could sleep. My husband needed to keep up on work while we were there, so the nice little office space in the master bedroom with ocean view was perfect, although the wireless was flaky - it kept kicking us out so we had to re-connect. I love that every morning I could walk out the front door and pick up a fresh plumeria blossom from the grass for my hair. Many mornings we went down to Maui Coffee Roasting for a nice cup of coffee and a scone on the lanai. Every evening we could be found on the back lanai with maitais and cameras. Each sunset seemed more spectacular than the last. We are surfers, so we surfed daily either right out front of the house or down at the sandy beach, which is a swell magnet. The snorkeling was really good too just a bit off the beach, where the water was less murky. I really could go on and on about the wonderful time we had. Downsides? I must remark about their policy about lawn toys. They do have a policy against lawn games around the townhomes, except at the large lawn under the mango trees by the clubhouse. Our boys are big baseball lovers and we thought they could be okay to just play catch (not a GAME) down by the beach in front of the home when there was nobody out, but apparently it bugged somebody, so the very nice security man showed up - who never comes around - to tell them that they are not allowed to play catch there. He felt bad having to tell them that... but that it was his job... still it put a damper on our plans. Apparently frisbee is out too - which I can understand more because of how easy it is to lose control of a frisbee toss. Yes, pool areas are in need of a remodel, but still we enjoyed the oceanfront pool a lot. Our family made incredible memories at this Puamana home and cannot wait to return. Thank you for sharing!

Love this place!

I spent two weeks in Puamana and it was absolutely perfect. The house was spacious, comfortable and right on the water. We barbequed, ate dinner on the lanai and watched beautiful sunsets. There is a rocky beach right outside the townhouse, and sandier beach access just a bit down the road. We used all three pools, but the oceanside "quiet" pool was definitely a highlight. It was a great place to swim, relax, read, watch surfers, look for turtles- you name it! We would have been perfectly content to just stay in Puamana the whole time as the house and the community had everything we needed, but we also took advantage of the proximity to downtown Lahaina (15 minute walk- great restaraunts, cute shops) as well as all that Maui had to offer. It was an easy day trip to go golfing in central Maui, we took one day to view Haleakala as well as take the road to Hana. This place had something for all of us! The house had toys and boogie boards we could use, as well as books and lawn chairs. We had a great time, and I loved every minute of it! I only hope I can return to this paradise in Maui sometime soon.

Awesome Vacation

Guest: Pat (Seattle)
Date of Stay: 08/01/11 Review Submitted: 09/03/11

Stayed at this place for two weeks and enjoyed it immensely. The house is ocean front, with a nice patch of grass between it and the water to lay out, throw a frisbee, set up a hammock or whatever your desire. The beach has some rocks in places but has a really nice slow break for surfing, body surfing or boogie boarding. There is a sandier part of the beach after a short couple minute walk. The house itself is awesome. The living room, master bedroom and another bedroom on the top floor all have ocean views. The air conditioning works well to keep you cool. The kitchen is great with lots of counter space and anything you need to cook. Within the complex there are three pools. The oceanside "quiet pool" is definitely the highlight. Lots of lounge chairs to layout in and the view is fantastic. The pools are big too so lap swimming can happen. If you're a serious swimmer, there is a public pool (no entry fee) within walking distance that is always empty and has lap swimming seemingly all day. From the house the sunsets are incredible. Lots of people gather outside of their houses with wine to enjoy the sunset. The weather was fantastic and waking up every morning to blue skies and sunshine was so nice. You could often see sea turtles swimming around in the water too. I highly recommend this place!

I had the pleasure of staying at this Puamana Oceanfront Townhouse this summer and loved every second of it. The view is absolutely breathtaking from all three floors (especially the master bedroom). It has every appliance needed from a blender to a bbq to some floating toys and games to play. My family had the best time ever!!! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to relax and enjoy what the island of maui has to offer. It is even a short walk to down town lahina

Two Weeks in Paradise

Guest: d'gooj (seattle)
Date of Stay: 07/28/11 Review Submitted: 08/26/11

Just spent two and half weeks in Paradise. This home is exquisite. Stayed with my husband and five adult children. Waking up in the morning to the sound of the ocean, sipping your morning coffee on your balcony or the lanai, watching the sea turtles, taking a dip in the ocean before breakfast. Even though there were seven adults in the home, we had plenty of space and room. The shower in the master bedroom is fabulous. Beds were comfortrable and the laundry facilites were great and the kitchen was well stocked. Manager/Owner were immediatley responsive when we had a potential problem. The gated community was quiet. We were a 10 to 15 minutes walk from downtown Lahaina. the kids were able to go dancing at night. We only ate out a couple of times, because we loved the house so much. You couldn't beat the view! Acitivities: golf, ( Pukalani Country Club - since mom and dad were treating we went twilight golfing $53 for clubs, cart and round and the clubs were fabulous); House had toys like boogie boards to use. Stand up paddling surfing was easily accesible Ka'anapali Beach, did the Road to Hana (both sides), visited Lindberg's Grave, Highly recommend the Hali-imaile General store, hike to the blow Hole. there are three pools on the property none crowded--we enjoyed them all. Fabulous aquatic center not far if you want to get in some serious swimming laps. Can't wait to return, my only regret is not coming here when the kids were young! this is a great place for all ages. The art and jewelry in Lahaina are great and the kids liked going in to dance at night. Kitchen was fabulous, living room was comfortable and spacious. Place felt like home only nicer. So sad to leave, thank you for a fabulous, time.

I got my deposit back

I wouldn't normally take the time to comment, but felt the need to say something on the subject of deposits. I spent 10 days at the property with my large family, and we had a great time. It really is a nice project, with lots of room for the kids to run around and a decent surf spot right out front (but really only for longboards). The only criticism I'd have of the unit is that it is a little light on cooking utensils. My only criticism of the project is that the pool areas are a little tired. But it is a very nice property, and a great place to stay. And, to address a point made in another review, I received my full deposit back in a timely manner.

DO NOT DO IT...YOU E+WILL LOSE YOUR DEPOSIT

Guest: Happy in Maui (Tulsa, OK)
Date of Stay: 05/28/10 Review Submitted: 12/10/10

Location is perfect, the condo is great. The aftermath was HORRIBLE !!! I HAD TO THREATEN LEGAL ACTION TO GET MY DEPOSIT BACK. Finally over 100 days after our departure and having to state Hawaii's renters rights to the owner... 2 checks later, we got all our money back. We are a family of 5. We frequently stay in Puamana. At least twice a year. Always love it, never had a rental problem in the previous 11 rentals, with other property managers. We stayed for over a month. We brought our own maid and nanny. We cleaned every day, in fact had to buy our own brooms and mops. We left this place spotless upon leaving. The dishwasher would not work upon arrival. We hand washed dishes for the entire stay. Within a week, the microwave stopped working, we bought one at walmart, when the repair man said it had just gone bad, but the owner would be unable to replace before the end of the month. All problems were reported, and documented. 45 days after our rental, we asked where our deposit was. The manager politely told us she was unaware it had not been refunded, and would get back to us. 14 days later we got a letter stating that we had broken the microwave and dishwasher, and left beer cans all over the condo (There were no beer cans while we were there, we were drinking sake) the letter then stated that the screen doors had been pushed in... at $800 each to rescreen. Finally to end it, the letter told us it was letting us off easy since there was so much damage and this was the worst they had ever seen. The truth of the matter is, we made sure this place was spotless top to bottom... we love Puamana. My thoughts are... if this was so bad, wouldn't we have heard all about it just after checkout? Not 60 days later? The owner obviously needs the money, BEWARE. There are PLENTY of other rental units in Puamana who will treat you right, without a background check.

Owner response:There are two sides to every story. The renters trashed the place and I will not be renting to them again. Our regular cleaner reported the place was left trashed, with garbage everywhere. It was the worse that she has seen. Our cleaner charged extra for the cleaning, but didn’t charge for full amount of time she put in. The appliance repairman found regular dish detergent instead of dishwasher detergent was used in the dishwasher. The dish washer was filled with suds; it had to be flushed several times. Non-microwaveable dishes were put into the microwave, which broke the magnetron. Three screens were torn. There was an error made on the cost of the screen, however that was noted. The total of damages exceeded what was actually requested as I had to put additional time in to fix things. This was the first time our home has been damaged and extra repair had to be performed. We have never kept a damage deposit until these renters. Our manager was waiting for the entire repair bills and receipts before she billed the renters. The repair took a long time since we had to wait for parts to be sent to Hawaii. We mailed the renters the damage and cleaning receipts as soon as we collected all the bills. We were not aware of the Hawaii law which has a time limit to communicate the damage. We have dealt with the renters generously and fairly. The full damage deposit was returned to the renters because our manager did not notify the renter on a timely basis. We were not aware of the Hawaii law which has a time limit to bill the renters. However, this renter is not welcome back to our nice home again."

Perfect Vaca-Get-a-way!

Guest: Lamar (Seattle)
Date of Stay: 11/20/10 Review Submitted: 11/30/10

Going to sleep and waking up to the sound of the ocean waves set the tone for my vacation. Extremely comfortable beds, great showers, an exquisite kitchen, beautiful views, and cozy rooms are only a few of the many perks to this town-home, not to mention the location! Staying in a quiet private community of townhouses (this one particularly with beach/ocean access right outside the sliding doors) only enhanced my experience. This Puamana Oceanfront Townhouse couldn't have been more of a perfect place to spend my Thanksgiving vacation.

Without equal

Guest: Kip (Calgary, Canada)
Date of Stay: 08/01/10 Review Submitted: 10/23/10

Puamana is without equal on Maui, particularly if you surf, body surf or swim -- having several surf breaks (for long and short boards) and three pools. And this unit is perfect for that: high end fit and fittings but with furnishings comfortable for the beach and vacation, with an owner responsive if matters arise. Vacation for us is play, "unlaxing", food (usually our own) and sleep; and we have three times stayed here (from 2-4 weeks) and expect to again. The development is private, quiet and well maintained and largely owner occupied, and is a short walk from downtown Lahaina (meaning the car can be parked). All things considered, a relative bargain -- particularly if meal preparation is part of your vacation, and there are several of you (5-6 for us, aged 17-50). My month at Puamana, going local, is now simply part of my year and I have no present desire for any other summer vacation. Check with the owner before departing for changes to the description, if any detail in particular is important
