Welcome to Casa Tranquillo. A beautiful house located on the pristine, white sandy beach near Tulum.

The house is situated at approximately the 6.7 kilometer point on the main beach road. This is the road that runs south along the beach to Punta Allen. The road was recently resurfaced with asphalt and is easy to drive. We are a relatively short 10 to 12 minute ride from Tulum and it is easy to find. Just look for the blue posts with round, red reflectors. Another reference is that we are just past the Arifices Resort and just before Ana y Jose’s Hotel and Restaurant. Anna y Jose's just opened new Beach Club that you will pass on the way to our house.

Casa Tranquillo is a spacious, 2000 square foot house that has 30 meters or about 100 feet of beautiful, white sand beach frontage, facing the majestic Caribbean Sea.

Casa Tranquillo has 3 spacious bedrooms, all with king-size beds. Each bedroom has easy access to one of the 2 restrooms, with one on each level. The restroom downstairs has a full bath and restroom upstairs has a shower. There is an outdoor, cold water shower and foot wash for you to rinse off, after you have a swim in the rich, blue-green, Caribbean Sea or after a morning or evening stroll down the tranquil, sandy beaches. The third level roof, with easy access off the upstairs balcony's thatch covered porch, offers great views of sunrises, sunsets or star lit skies.

I encourage you to rent a car to get around. Taxis run from $7 to $10 each way from town to the house. If you elect to not rent a car, you could consider renting bicycles in the nearby village of Punta Piedra.

Your private beach-front home is surrounded by tropical and beach plants, including palm trees with coconuts, beautiful white beach lilies and many other native trees and plants.

This area of the Caribbean Sea is the home to many types of sea life, but of interest to you are the sea turtles. The turtles return to the beach where they were born to lay their eggs in the mid to late summer. In 2006, we had over 20 turtles nest on our property. If you are fortunate to be here during that season, you will be able to see these majestic 300 plus pound giants exit the sea and dig their nest.

The downstairs of the house is designed to be an open and friendly living area. The kitchen service bar separates the kitchen from the dining or leisure space. You can sit on a bar stool and sip your morning coffee, talking with those preparing breakfast. The kitchen is well equipped with a variety of appliances, including a gas stove with an oven and a gas refrigerator with a freezer. We also have a selection of cooking utensils, pots and pans, plates, glasses, cups, a electric juicer, coffee maker, toaster, and a blender for mixing the margaritas in the evening. Service for six is provided. We will provide plenty of bottled drinking water during your stay. The European propane gas refrigerator is spacious enough to store your fresh meat and produce purchase in town. The freezer is large enough for ice trays and several quarts of your favorite Mexican Ice Cream. I really like coconut. I will also provide an ice chest for icing down extra beverages and for day trips away from the house.

As a house warming gifts, we will stock the refrigerator with a case of cold pop or beer for your drinking pleasure upon arrival. You will specify which you want upon making your reservation. I will also have a bountiful fruit basket your your enjoyment.

If barbequing is your thing, there is a propane gas grill that can be rolled out the back door to grill hamburgers, hotdogs, steaks or fresh fish you purchase at the local fisherman’s market in town.

We have several nice hammocks and hammock chairs for you to hang inside or outside. Lounge around and read your favorite book you brought along, or pick one from our library, or use them to take a traditional Mexican Siesta or nap.

I should be in Tulum during your stay, to personally attend to you and your group, in the event you have any questions or encounter any unforeseen problems. To make your stay less stressful and make contact with us easy, I will loan you a Mexican prepaid cell phone with our numbers pre-programmed to make reaching out easier. If I am out of town I have a staff of folks that will resolve any issue on my behalf.

Since there is no electrical service along the beach road, electricity at Casa Tranquillo is provided by a bank of solar panels and a wind turbine generator. The power is stored in a bank of batteries and then converted using an inverter, so the house has US Standard 120v power. We use eco-friendly low wattage bulbs and try to conserve as much as possible. Please help us conserve electricity at all times.

Casa Tranquillo is equipped with a satellite dish antenna and we have US television for your evening entertainment. If you bring DVDs, you can watch them on our DVD player.

To help you enjoy the beach, there are several beach chaise lounge chairs, Adirondack chairs and two palyapa, also known as permanent shade umbrellas, out in front of the house. Do not forget the hammocks too. We also have 2 brand new sea kayaks and 4 boogie boards for you to use in the surf during your stay.

If you are inclined to prepare your own meals in your own kitchen, you can purchase the fixings and create your meals after shopping at the various open markets of stores in Playa del Carmen or Tulum. There is a Wal-Mart and SAMS in Playa del Carmen. We buy whole milk imported from the US at SAMS, when it is in stock.

I hope that this will help you plan and prepare for a great stay at our house. There is a Mexican saying "Mi Casa Es Su Casa", which translates as "My House Is Your House". We truly want you and your group to enjoy your stay in your house.

    • Hello The web page description and the guset comments are accurate. What doesn't come across is what good value this rental can be. You very much get what you pay for. You can rent basic hotel rooms more cheaply on the beach, but they are basic. Nicer hotels would cost more for 3 rooms and give you much less. The town would be a bit far for staying. The place is LARGE with multiple common use areas (porch, roof deck, palapas, dining area, living room), comfortable, pleasant, well maintained, has a good kitchen, and is highly suitable for small children. The setting is both private and immediately accessible to a very nice stretch of beach. When I checked, there was only 1 other house for rent on the tulum beach -- significantly pricier. good luck

    • A perfect retreat for relaxation - thanks! From the sugary white sand to the brilliant blue of the water and sky, this is a piece of paradise. The house was well outfitted, large and comfortable, and the setting perfect for either being busy on the boogie board (a new thrill for me) or relaxing with a cerveza, toes in sand. The location is perfect - an excellent base camp for siteseeing to numerous locations and convenient to stores and yet a private feeling. Rooftop patio perfect for sunsets and the swing/palapa great for morning coffee. Great place and very memorable! Craig made sure everything went well - thanks so much!

    • We just spent one of our most delightful vacations at Casa Tranquillo. The beach and the view of the ocean are amazing. The house is very comfortable. It was great sleeping with the breeze and the sound of the surf. We enjoyed sitting on the swings under the palapa with our coffee in the morning, walking up and down the beach, playing in the ocean when the spirit moved us, and just sitting on the beach and watching the world go by. There is plenty to do and see in the area, but we didn’t get around to half of what we planned because we were having too good a time right where we were.

    • Had a great time at your beach paradise Casa Tranquilo! Thank you for the extras of fresh fruit & XX beer. Also, the boogie boards, coolers and a good selection of kitchen stuff. Had everything we needed inside and out. Really miss our yogurt, fresh fruit, and pear vodka smoothies in the morning on the roof or the beach. But back to reality!! Myself, hubby, son (24) and girlfriend (25) really enjoyed the house, beaches, Tulum Pueblo and just hanging out relaxing and swimming. Enjoyed our visit with Craig and the helpful ideas and suggestions. It was also nice knowing he was only a phone call away to help with anything. I’ll keep your website bookmarked for future trips and be more than happy to tell others about your beach paradise. We have to go back…….many more restaurants to try out, friends to make and places to explore.

    • Casa Tranquillo was truly our home away from home. It was everything we expected and more. Our family enjoyed the home, the beach and the entire area very much. The beach is absolutely amazing. We all enjoyed the boogie boards and the kayaks every day we were there. The house was fully stocked with everything you could want. The beer was cold and waiting for us as well as the lovely basket of fruit. We couldn't even eat it all. Thank you so much Craig & Mike. You were great too. We hope to return again with our family.

    • We had three couples for our stay at Casa Tranquilo. It was a perfect! All three bedrooms are ocean front w/ a fantastic breeze. If you need it, electricity is available 24/7 and the kitchen is equipped w/ everything you need for preparing simple meals. Ocean front with a private beach which is cleaned almost everyday by the groundskeeper (he’ll open coconuts too!) recliners and hammocks! All the beach toys you need, except snorkel gear. The location is convenient to grocery stores, town and excursions. Great location between cabanas and restaurants. I will book again!

    • Friends Paul and Sara asked us to share their vacation with them. Not speaking Spanish and apprehensive about Mexico, I thought of Hawaii or even a 'closed environment' like Cancun. I am thankful we went to Tulum and stayed at CASA TRANQUILLO instead. I am always skeptical about glowing guestbook comments on a rental website but amen to all of the positive comments. We were immersed in 'real' Mexican/Mayan culture but with all the comforts of home. We always felt safe and welcome around town. We shopped at the local grocery store, drove a rental car and had no problems getting around. Craig and Mike were exceptional hosts, giving us tailored advise on where to go, what to see and where to eat (if you get homesick for American food go to the very clean Subway on the east side of the main drag on the south side of town - I could eat there every day), and we feel they are more friends than hosts. We want to bring back our two kids still at home (13 & 17) to experience what we did. I have a high-pressure job and, having been to various parts of the US and in other countries for vacations, this was THE MOST RELAXING vacation in my life. No phones (Craig/Mike have a cell we used to ask him a couple of questions), no TV (there, but never used) no internet, no news or any other distractions - just pure relaxation sleeping in the hammock on the beach, snorkeling and swimming in clear, deliciously warm Caribbean water and listening to the waves and feeling the warm trade winds lull us to sleep at night. Go up on the roof at night to watch the stars or, in our case, a full moon. It was breathtaking. It is a perfect location to make day trips to Maya ruins (get the Tulum ruins tour guide named Lemuel or his brother)and other sights. In summary - it was wonderful, exceeding my high expectations thanks to Craig and Mike. Go with family or another couple or two. I am so pleased with this vacation and the house, I am glad to email a few photos to anyone who might be reluctant at staying at CASA TRANQUILLO in Tulum.

    • This home is located in a very cool beach community and the privacy was great. The beach is stunning, clean and the water clear and very warm. We loved boggie boarding and snoozing in the hammocks. This beach house has all the comforts of home and is built in a very eco-friendly way. The beds are REALLY comfortable and words can not explain the view of the beach during a full moon. We loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves. The kitchen has everything you need. Bedrooms VERY spacious. Satelite TV, BBQ, sand toys for kids. The hosts (Craig and Mike)were really great. They could not have been more accomodating and helpful (both with the house and ideas on what to do and how to get around). They were easy to get a hold of using the local cell phone that's in the house. We loved it and didn't want to leave. We highly recommend this to anyone looking for an incredible vacation. • We loved staying at Casa Tranquillo!! Our sister was married at Anna y Jose's and it was so convenient to walk from the house to the hotel. The house was much larger than I had imagined, the beds really comfortable with nice linens, the kitchen big enough to allow 3 or 4 of us in there at a time while people could visit across the bar counter. It was so great to have a kitchen. We bought fresh fish from the Fishermen's Cooperativa in town. The grill was great for fish, chicken, and poblano peppers! We made fresh salsas and shopped at the markets in town. The Grocery store was convenient as well, but I love the atmosphere of the markets and the produce was fresher. I also love supporting local family businesses. The roof top was such a pleasant place to be at sunset and at night, the stars are still so visible and bright. I like the conservative use of electricity along the beach in Tulum because it preserves the night sky. The view of the jungle is amazing from the roof and the birds migrate south in the evenings passing by at eye level. I also appreciated the lovely landscaping which gave a nice amount of privacy between the house and the beach. Thank you Mike and Craig for all of your thoughtful amenities and attention, being there to do minor repairs (the gas grill was back on track within a couple of hours!). We hope to be back soon!
