Casa Tranquillo - a Caribbean Beach Retreat
- Minimum stay:4-6 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Welcome to Casa Tranquillo. A beautiful beach house located on the pristine, white sandy beach near Tulum.
The house is situated at approximately the 6.7 kilometer point on the main beach road. This is the road that runs south along the beach to Punta Allen. The road was recently resurfaced with asphalt and is easy to drive. We are a relatively short 10 to 12 minute ride from Tulum and it is easy to find. Just look for the blue posts with round, red reflectors. Another reference is that we are just past the Arifices Resort and just before Ana y Jose’s Hotel and Restaurant. You will pass the Anna y Jose's Beach Club on the way to our house.
Casa Tranquillo is a spacious, 2000 square foot house that has 30 meters or about 100 feet of beautiful, white sand beach frontage, facing the majestic Caribbean Sea.
Casa Tranquillo has 3 spacious bedrooms, all with king-size beds. Each bedroom has easy access to one of the 2 restrooms, with one on each level. Both restrooms have showers. There is also an outdoor, cold water shower and foot wash for you to rinse off, after you have a swim in the rich, blue-green, Caribbean Sea or after a morning or evening stroll down the tranquil, white fine limestone sandy beaches. The third level roof, with easy access off the thatch covered balcony, offers great views of sunrises, sunsets or star lit skies.
I encourage you to rent a car to get around. Taxis run from $7 to $10 each way from town to the house. If you elect to not rent a car, you could consider renting bicycles in the nearby village of Punta Piedra.
Your private beach-front home is surrounded by tropical and beach plants, including palm trees with coconuts, beautiful white beach lilies and many other native trees and plants.
This area of the Caribbean Sea is the home to many types of sea life, but of interest to you are the sea turtles. The turtles return to the beach where they were born to lay their eggs in the mid to late summer. If you are fortunate to be here during that season, you will be able to see these majestic 300 plus pound giants exit the sea and dig their nest.
The downstairs of the house is designed to be an open and friendly living area. The kitchen service bar separates the kitchen from the dining or leisure space. You can sit on a bar stool and sip your morning coffee, talking with those preparing breakfast. The kitchen is well equipped with a variety of appliances, including a gas stove with an oven and a gas refrigerator with a freezer. We also have a selection of cooking utensils, pots and pans, plates, glasses, cups, a electric juicer, coffee maker, toaster, and a blender for mixing the margaritas in the evening. Service for six is provided. We will provide plenty of bottled drinking water during your stay. The European propane gas refrigerator is spacious enough to store your fresh meat and produce purchase in town. The freezer is large enough for ice trays and several quarts of your favorite Mexican Ice Cream.
As a house warming gifts, we will stock the refrigerator with a case of cold Mexican beer or pop for you upon arrival. We will also provide a bountiful fruit basket for your enjoyment.
If barbequing is your thing, we have a propane gas grill that can be rolled out the back door to grill hamburgers, hotdogs, steaks or fresh fish you purchase at the local fisherman’s market in town.
We have several nice hammocks and hammock chairs for you to hang inside or outside. Lounge around and read your favorite book you brought along, or pick one from our library, or use them to take a traditional Mexican Siesta or nap.
One of the owners will be in Tulum during your stay, to personally attend to you and your group, in the event you have any questions or encounter any unforeseen problems. To make your stay less stressful and make contact with us easy, we will loan you a Mexican prepaid cell phone with our numbers pre-programmed to make reaching out easier.
Since there is no electrical service along the beach road, electricity at Casa Tranquillo is provided by a bank of solar panels. The power is stored in a bank of batteries and then converted using an inverter, so the house has US Standard 120v power. We use eco-friendly low wattage bulbs and try to conserve as much as possible. Please help us conserve electricity at all times.
Casa Tranquillo is equipped with a satellite dish antenna and we have Shaw Satellite television out of Canada but it has the major US networks for your evening entertainment. If you bring DVDs, you can watch them on our DVD player.
To help you enjoy the beach, we have 4 beach chaise lounge chairs, 4 Adirondack chairs and three palyapas (one with swings), out in front of the house. Do not forget the hammocks too. We also have 2 sea kayaks and 5 boogie boards for you to use in the surf during your stay.
You can prepare your own meals in your own kitchen after shopping at the various open markets and shops in Playa del Carmen or Tulum.
We hope that this will help you plan and prepare for a great stay at our house. There is a Mexican saying 'Mi Casa Es Su Casa', which translates as 'My House Is Your House'. We truly want you and your group to enjoy your stay in your house.

We LOVED our stay at the beach house! We brought our four children ages 13, 10, 6, and 4 and they all had a wonderful time. The house was very accomodating with everything we needed. There is so much to see and do in Tulum!- we will definitely go back to the same house and finish what we missed! We would absolutely recommend this house to anyone! It's fun to hear the ocean waves and to walk out the front to a beautiful beach / ocean view. The beach is not crowded like Can Cun. Plenty of crab/ turtle hunting and the kids loved body surfing every day. My husband enjoyed reading his book under the palapa! Craig and Mike are easy to get in contact with to help or give advice. VERY nice guys thay went over and beyond what a hotel clerk would do. It's a beautiful place to visit - a "real" Mexican place without the tourist hype. A great education for our children along with a beautiful place to vacation!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

Casa Tranquillo was absolutely delightful! The house had all the amenities we needed for our children (5 and 10), including beach toys, boogie boards, etc. Craig was incredibly helpful and always available, and the caretaker did a wonderful job of maintaining the house. The beach is amazing, the water is so warm, and while the surf was a bit rough while we were there, there was no undertow and the kids had a great time. We felt very safe walking back from the many nearby restaurants in the evenings. The nearby ruins and cenotes were great to visit, and we had an amazing day at Xel-Ha. We hope to come back soon! Best family vacation we've had! Thanks Mike and Craig!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a great time in Tulum. Casa Tranquillo is in a perfect location. We felt very safe and everything we needed was very close to us. Thanks to Craig and Manual for all the time and attention that they gave us. It is wonderful to know that you can call someone and they will come right over to talk care of any problems. I thought I forgot to turn off the coffee pot and with one call Craig went over to check for me. The house in spacious, beautiful with a beautiful beach front. Tulum and the neighboring towns have many interesting sites to see and activities that can keep you busy if you are tired of the beach. We ran out of time to do everything we wanted so I guess we will have to go back for another visit. I would recommend Casa Tranquillo for anyone who wants to stay at rustic location with all the amenities of home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your review. Our goal is to provide a safe private beach home where you can enjoy your stay and enjoy the best beach in Mexico! We look forward to having you come back in a few years to finish your Tulum bucket list. Mike

We have visited Tulum several times and have stayed at various hotels along the beach. We have two teenagers and a baby so we have a lot of different needs when traveling. I must say that we really enjoyed our stay in Casa Tranquillo. It's a big 3 bedroom house with nice balconies and a roof terrace. There is everything you need, including a bbq, toys for the kids and comfortable beach lounge chairs. Craig ,the property manager and co-owner who is an American living in Tulum ,made sure that we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. He even met us in the main town to help us find the property since we arrived late and it was dark. The house provides a cell phone so if there are any issues or things that you need, Craig will sort you out. Manuel is the gardener who shows up every day, rakes any seaweed or things washed up in front of the beach, sweeps all the loose sand that blows on to the steps, takes away the garbage and makes sure everything is in perfect order. He also cuts a mean coconut and is very friendly with kids. I would recommend this house for families with kids. The house is not babyproofed but does have a new playpen and baby cot so little ones can sleep or play on the beach. There are lots of beach toys so no need to bring any. The outdoor table on the beach is a great place to hang out and eat. Walking distance to some of the better places to eat on Tulum beach, such as Posada Margherita.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for your kind words. Your family were great guests and we look forward to your family staying with us again in the future.

This was our second visit, and we hope to return. The house is very comfortable, clean, and well maintained, the owners are responsive and reliable, and it is located on one of the best beaches in the "Mexican Riviera". Highly recommended.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This is a real gem. Craig, the owner, makes you feel so welcome you almost feel like you're just borrowing an old friend's beach house. He's always accessible on the phone, and a pleasure to deal with. We were a group of 5 - 3 adults and 2 small kids - and we had more than enough room. All the bedrooms are spacious - the upstairs ones are massive. It's perfect for a big family (or 2 smaller ones), but would also work for a few couples to share as well. Kitchen is basic, but worked just fine for us for a few meals. Propane BBQ is also a plus. The place feels very secure - you can lock it up tight and there is an alarm system... But you will feel very safe in this area anyway. The location is great - midway down the main Tulum beach. There's a mostly unused property to the north, and La Luna to the south - a small hotel - so you have plenty of space on the beach to yourself. Tulum town is a quick drive away and worth visiting, especially for meals. The house is right on the beach, so there's normal wear-and-tear from the salt air but the place is very well cared for. I'd go back in a heartbeat, I had high hopes after reading all the other reviews and it more than lived up to our expectations.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for the kind words. We try hard to make you feel welcome in our house. Mi Casa, Su Casa!

My family and I spent 8 amazing and blessed days at the Tranquillo beach house in Tulum..! The house is a dream, surrounded by palm trees and with a precious beach right there in front of your eyes..! It was really a very special vacation, full of God´s beauty all around us and a peace that you can't find anywhere... A jewel of a place really..! The owners, Mike and Craig are beautiful people and very, very helpful .. they were always ready to help and guide us if we had any questions. Their service was excellent! Manuel, their gardener and handyman.... a blessing also...! Always smiling, nice and friendly..! The hole experience was a gift from God really... We would definitely go back when we have a new chance to be able to go and spend more amazing days there on their unique Tranquillo house beach! We stayed at Casa Tranquillo for Christmas this year(2012) and had a fabulous time. What we appreciated most was the location and the large property which provided lots of private space. At Christmas with the beach being fairly busy this was huge bonus. The different sitting/lounging areas were great, the roof deck for morning yoga and sunrises as well as happy hour, the palapa with swings on the beach for breakfasts and lunches and the lounging chairs with lots of shade available for reading and relaxing. The outdoor shower made swimming at the beach very practical. Manuel looks after the beachfront well, cleaning away all seaweed and debris daily. The three large bedrooms and two bathrooms worked out well for our group of 7, grandparents, parents and kids (three 15 year olds). We cooked dinner a few times over our ten day stay but chose to take advantage of the fun surrounding (but sometimes pricey) restaurants on most evenings. Craig was super helpful in giving tips for meals, places to go and some general knowledge of the area. We had been to Tulum twice before and allot of Craig’s input was new and interesting for us. It was great to have the use of the boogie boards which we used daily as well as the kayaks Casa Tranquillo is truly a beachfront paradise, if you are looking to get away from the crowds, have a private space and spectacular beach then this is the place to go! The listing, the appearance & amenities are all accurate as displayed on the website. Thanks so much Craig & Mike, we hope to be back some day!!Owner response: Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Thanks for the kind words. We look forward to having you return to Casa Tranquillo for another stay in the future.

The house & the beach are fantastic! We were a full house, 3 couples & a 1 year old. The kitchen has everything for your needs & we even BBQ'd one night. Two big grocery stores within a 5 minute drive from the house. You MUST try El Camello's for seafood in the town of Tulum. Excellent eats for next to nothing! Enjoy your stay!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
