The house & the beach are fantastic! We were a full house, 3 couples & a 1 year old. The kitchen has everything for your needs & we even BBQ'd one night. Two big grocery stores within a 5 minute drive from the house. You MUST try El Camello's for seafood in the town of Tulum. Excellent eats for next to nothing! Enjoy your stay!
Owner response:Glad you enjoyed your stay at Casa Tranquillo. We look forward to you staying with us on your next trip to Paradise.

Our week at Casa Tranquillo was refreshing. The children -- ages 7 to 12 -- loved playing on the long sandy beach and boogie boarding. Adults loved listening to the waves while reclining on beach chairs or hammock. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen functions well. Location is great -- near nice restaurants and not too far from well-stocked supermarkets. Area abundant with Mayan ruins, cenotes, and adventure parks.
Owner response:Glad you had a great stay with us and we look forward to you returning for another vacation on the pristine Tulum beach.

This house has a fabulous beach. The sand is soft and it is kept swept and beautiful every day by Manuel. He will also cut you down fabulous coconuts and let you drink sweet coconut water with a straw. There are boogie boards, kayaks (if it is ever calm enough for them) and reclining lounges with cushions. The inside of the house needs a "woman's touch". The furniture is not especially comfortable and there are bare lightbulbs in the ceiling that would be so much nicer with some kind of covers. The kitchen is pretty basic for doing much more than snacking, though we cooked a fair amount of beans, rice and guacamole. The owner is extremely nice, helpful and has lots of good advice and recommendations for the area. He also does a good job of making sure that the house is environmentally friendly. The location of the house is perfect, far enough away from anything noisy, yet close enough for lots of restaurants and music nearby. We had a great time. Go to Zamas for entertainment at night. Keep in mind that restaurants in Tulum Pueblo will cost about half what the restaurants along the beach cost.

My family, including two teens, and some family friends shared the house for the Thanksgiving holiday. The location couldn't be more perfect, right on the ocean, with snow white sand. We could hear the crashing waves and feel the sea breeze every night. Mike and Craig are wonderful, answering all our questions and providing every amenity needed, including coconuts that were peeled and ready to drink! We tried out the kayaks and body boards in the waves. Sat under palm trees and caught up on our reading. Watched the sunset from the rooftop deck in the evening. Made use of the kitchen for breakfast, lunch, appetizers, drinks -- with dinner at terrific restaurants located right on the beach within walking distance, I don't think I wore shoes the entire week! The wifi is weak, just enough for a quick email check, which can be a good thing if you really want to get away from it all. And if you can drag yourself away from Casa Tranquillo, there's plenty to do nearby: Tulum ruins, a walk through town, boat snorkeling trips, biosphere. A lovely lovely holiday. We'd definitely come back.

My husband and I spent four days at Casa Tranquillo. Our stay was unfortunately cut short by an approaching hurricane. But we really enjoyed our time there. The best thing about the house is the location, privacy and beach. The beach setting is just perfect. And the location is so convenient, as you can walk to several bars and restaurants and a short drive gets you to many more. We had been to this area before, but never stayed on the beach road. It was a great place to stay. The house itself is fairly basic, but has everything you really need. It's not new, and shows it's age a bit. I had worried about the no air conditioning, but we were very cool in the evenings with the windows open a bit and the breeze. The owners are fantastic and very responsive, the caretaker who comes to take care of things outside is very nice, and all in all we had everything we needed to have a very restful and relaxing vacation. We also enjoyed having the Canadian satellite tv which got all of the US networks. It was nice to every so often catch up on news, etc. Great for families, but also for a couple like us who just want the peace and quiet, beautiful beach, and convenient location. I would recommend it.

We had the greatest family vacation at Casa Tranquilo. It is a perfect place to get away from your busy lives. It is a perfect spot for all, whether you want to take in the many attractions nearby or just relax on your own private beach, it just doesn't get any better. As were others, we were well taken care of by Craig, one of the owners and Manuel the grounds keeper - and of course we partook in the fresh off the tree coconut nectar. A lot of times you leave a vacation needing a vacation, but not the case here! We rented a car but only used it to go the local market, which has everything you need to prepare meals. The rest of the time, we walked to the neighboring restaurants for great food and margaritas. We found Zulum (two doors down) had the best margaritas (and happy hour:)) and an incredible mixed seafood ceviche YUM! And most of the restaurants we encountered no shoes were required and all had foot baths at the entrance. So you could spend all your time taking the beautiful beach. One of our favorite evening past times was spend on the spacious roof top, taking in the gorgeous view. we would definitely return here as a family or with other couples, we checked out other spots (mostly hotel types, which we weren't interested in) along the beach, but this was by far the best beach, view and had privacy. The floor plan was very convenient for families as well, the bedrooms upstairs has an adjoining bathroom, so the kiddos didn't feel like they were isolated in a strange place. Thanks Craig & Mike
Owner response:Michele, It was great having you and your family stay with us. Your great words are truly appreciated. Craig and I try to make you stay comfortable in our beach house. We just installed a new propane refrigerator in our effort to keep the furnishings up to date. We look forward to your family coming back to Casa Tranquillo and the Best Beach in Mexico. Mike

You can't beat this house for a perfect beachfront vacation. My wife, myself, and our four children (age 11,10,7,7) stayed at this spacious home, equipped with everything you need. This is one of only a few private homes on all the beach in Tulum, set amidst chic cabana-style hotels. How many 'top 10' lists of beaches are on the internet? Too many to count. With the beautiful powdery sand, lovely onshore wind and warm water, the kids and us all had a blast. No falling over other tourists looking for a spot to sit, Casa Tranquillo has tonnes of oceanfront. Walk to your own house to make a drink or have lunch, or, saunter a few yards down the beach and pick another restaurant. We enjoyed going to La Lunita restaurant when we wanted to spoil ourselves. They would provide us a whole pot of coffee, margaritas, or whatever we wanted, and scoot back over to our beachfront to enjoy in the privacy of our setting. Or, scoot into town 7 minutes away and grab groceries from a pretty decent grocery store. Much more reasonable prices on meals out in town as well. Book a massage at a beach hotel, go for a 5k run first thing on the beach. Best of all worlds, if you want it. Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets from the roof. Plenty of power to get you through the day from the solar panels, and clean drinking water delivered regularly. Manuel was great about raking the beach, and getting coconuts for kids, which he split and gave the kids. The kids spent hours on the beach with the boards supplied at the house, which Mike and Craig keep in good repair. The sand is frankly awesome for building castles etc. We are pretty cautious parents, and being our first time in this area, were concerned about what risks there may be. We never felt unsafe or at risk in this area, in any way. The odd beach-walking local selling something was about all we had to deal with. Maybe once a day when we were right at the beach. A simple no thank you sent them on their way. Craig was around during our trip. When we arrived at the house, he met us there and gave us a cell phone we could use to call him anytime we had a question. We didn't abuse this, but when we did call, he answered. Great tips on choice of local restaurants, where to get gas, how far to various locations etc. By the end of the week, we wondered where all the time went!
Owner response:We enjoyed hosting your family in our house. Glad you had a great stay and enjoyed the great beach. We look forward to your family returning in the future. Mi Casa, Su Casa. MIke

We recently stayed at Casa Tranquillo and LOVED it. We traveled with kids ages 6 months, 3yrs, 5yrs, & 6 1/2 yrs. Everyone had a great time. The house was clean and big enough for us all (4 adults and 4 kids). The owners were wonderful at accommodating our needs, especially in regard to traveling with a baby. Believe it or not, we did not rent a car! We stayed at the house for two weeks and we did not wait more than five minutes for a taxi at the end of the driveway. We used a shuttle service to get to and from the airport and it was great. The service asked the ages of our children and when we got in the van they had car seats for them all! We saved a huge amount by taking taxis. I've been to Tulum twice now, once with a car and once without. If we go again, I wouldn't rent a car!
Owner response:Francesca, Thank you for the kind words and we look forward to you staying with us on another beach vacation to Mexico. I would like to thank you also for sharing your thoughts on your decision not to rent a car in Mexico. Many traveler ask us what they should do and we have traditionally suggested they rent a car. This will help them make a better decision for their family.

We had planned "the vacation of a lifetime," and Casa Tranquillo did not disappoint! My partner and I had been to Tulum two years before, and decided to share our love of the place with our 3 children (ages 11, 16 and 24) -- who each brought a friend along. There was space for everyone to do their own thing -- hanging out on the beach, watching the sunset from the rooftop, reading on the balcony, mixing Caribbean cocktails or making quesadillas in the kitchen. It was ideal for us -- such a large and diverse group -- the littler ones played with boogie boards and sea kayaks in the water, the older kids sunbathed and napped, and we were able to walk along the beach, feeling very comfortable and safe. Craig was really helpful, offering advice from his vast knowledge of the area to bringing us fresh 5 gallon bottles of water -- and being flexible, when a massive blizzard rearranged our travel plans for us. With a car, we were able to easily get into Tulum Pueblo to shop and find our way to other sites, like Coba and great snorkeling at Yal-Ku Lagoon in Akumal (Craig's recommendation.) A great place I can't wait to return to!

We loved having our own PRIVATE beach all to ourselves!! They really cater to families since there were water toys, boogie boards, and sand toys there for my kids to play with. We were able to make our own food in the kitchen and watch the sunset and the sunrise (one morning) in peace and quiet from our balcony. It truly was paradise! It was nice to have some drinks and some fruit waiting for us when we arrived and Craig even cut down a fresh coconut for us!! There was a constant breeze from the ocean, which made it really nice to endure the wonderful heat and humidity. (We came during the winter.) We are looking forward to coming back and telling our friends about this place. Thanks for everything!! with care, The Chapmans

Casa Tranquillo was everything we had hoped it would be. The description and photos were very accurate. The house is spacious. We had 6 adults and 2 kids, ages 6 and 9. The beach is amazing with enough shade or sun for all of us. The waves were great fun for the kids and adults. This is the perfect property for families. We had a great Easter egg hunt in the gardens. The kitchen is well stocked. The gardener was very nice. The kids loved the coconuts he opened for them. It was great having Craig stop by. He is very knowledgeable about the area and has great suggestions for things to do. We are already planning a trip back to the house. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

My husband and I, our three children (21, 19, 14) and our nephew just spent a wonderful week in Tulum at Casa Tranquillo. The pictures very accurately reflected the house and its features - a spacious, homey place perfect for families. It's not fancy, but it is not advertised as such, so there were no surprises. The location is superb; Tulum is about two hours from Cancun and if you want to get away from all the high rises and experience some of the authentic Mayan culture, you can't do better than this. The beach is right outside the back door, and there is a balcony, terrace, and rooftop seating to give you various perspectives on the water, the jungle and the magnificent sunrises and sunsets. It was especially nice having Mike and Craig meet us when we arrived to make us feel welcome and explain the house and answer any questions. They are a great resource for restaurant and sight seeing suggestions. They suggested going to the Coba ruins and stopping on the way at Punta Laguna, a monkey reserve supported entirely by the local indigenous community. I highly recommend both. I also recommend going into the town of Tulum for some of your meals. You will feel very safe and you will get to experience the charming and gracious Mayan culture. The house is eco-friendly like all of the small resorts nearby; it is powered completely by propane (stove), solar and wind. That's another thing about this area of the Yucatan that I like. Just be prepared for lower lighting in the house. Candles are available to give nice atmosphere. All in all, we had a wonderful time at Casa Tranquilo. It's the perfect place for a family vacation.

It was really nice to be able to return to Tulum and Casa Tranquillo this month. We had stayed there during my sister's wedding two years ago. I recommend this to anyone who might have family functions at Ana y Jose's. It is just a few doors down the beach and accommodates 3 couples and children (on air mattresses) very comfortably. It is really nice to have a kitchen. Everything was the same, with the addition of some nice headboards and lighting fixtures. Craig and Mike are both very helpful hosts. Loved Candido who cleaned the beach and opened fresh coconuts for us everyday, a very pleasant person. Love the house for our families and the beach of Tulum is exquisite.

We returned to Casa Tranquillo December 2009 after our initial stay in January 2009. We love the location of this house right on this portion of the beach which allows you to go for long beach walks right outside your back door. There are several places offering yoga classes within walking distance on the beach if you are interested. We also love sitting on the roof at sunset and at nights for an incredible view of the stars on clear nights. The house has 3 good sized bedrooms and is certainly big enough to accomodate 2 couples if you want to share the house. We love that Tulum is not as built up as Cancun and look forward to returning, hopefully next year. we had a very relaxing week!

It was the fourth time we came to the Riviera Maya with the family. We liked it every single time and we did a lot of sightseeing. This time we went to Craig and Mike's vacation home - we needed to relax. This was the perfect place to do so. The house is spacious, and the boys were busy with body surfing or reading books in the hammock. My husband and I could relax in the lounge chairs by the beach in the shade of palm trees while we watched the kitesurfers surfing by: Fantastic! A few steps through the sand to the house and you could get the drink of your choice. We didn't do any sightseeing tours this time, because we had the perfect beach, the perfect house, the perfect vacation!!! Thank you Mike and Craig for letting us stay at Casa Tranquillo. Hello The web page description and the guset comments are accurate. What doesn't come across is what good value this rental can be. You very much get what you pay for. You can rent basic hotel rooms more cheaply on the beach, but they are basic. Nicer hotels would cost more for 3 rooms and give you much less. The town would be a bit far for staying. The place is LARGE with multiple common use areas (porch, roof deck, palapas, dining area, living room), comfortable, pleasant, well maintained, has a good kitchen, and is highly suitable for small children. The setting is both private and immediately accessible to a very nice stretch of beach. When I checked, there was only 1 other house for rent on the tulum beach -- significantly pricier. good luck

A perfect retreat for relaxation - thanks! From the sugary white sand to the brilliant blue of the water and sky, this is a piece of paradise. The house was well outfitted, large and comfortable, and the setting perfect for either being busy on the boogie board (a new thrill for me) or relaxing with a cerveza, toes in sand. The location is perfect - an excellent base camp for siteseeing to numerous locations and convenient to stores and yet a private feeling. Rooftop patio perfect for sunsets and the swing/palapa great for morning coffee. Great place and very memorable! Craig made sure everything went well - thanks so much!

We just spent one of our most delightful vacations at Casa Tranquillo. The beach and the view of the ocean are amazing. The house is very comfortable. It was great sleeping with the breeze and the sound of the surf.We enjoyed sitting on the swings under the palapa with our coffee in the morning, walking up and down the beach, playing in the ocean when the spirit moved us, and just sitting on the beach and watching the world go by.There is plenty to do and see in the area, but we didn’t get around to half of what we planned because we were having too good a time right where we were.

Our family has stayed twice and had an excellent time both visits. The Tulum beach and the low density of tourists makes this "off the grid" location perfect for us. The solar managed all of our electricity needs and the kitchen along with the excellent Tulum supermarket kept us relaxed and the kids eating their comfort foods. The superb restaurant a few hundred yards down the beach made for a good date night and cafe above kite surfing rental place with wireless was a great place to catch up on emails. The surf has been good for body surfing on some days and kayaking on others. You have cenotes and rays and all sorts of adventures on your very own stretch of beach and plenty of things to explore within an hour drive! Mike was a great host and they gave us a phone for our use during our stay.

Had a great time at your beach paradise Casa Tranquilo! Thank you for the extras of fresh fruit & XX beer. Also, the boogie boards, coolers and a good selection of kitchen stuff. Had everything we needed inside and out. Really miss our yogurt, fresh fruit, and pear vodka smoothies in the morning on the roof or the beach. But back to reality!! Myself, hubby, son (24) and girlfriend (25) really enjoyed the house, beaches, Tulum Pueblo and just hanging out relaxing and swimming. Enjoyed our visit with Craig and the helpful ideas and suggestions. It was also nice knowing he was only a phone call away to help with anything. I’ll keep your website bookmarked for future trips and be more than happy to tell others about your beach paradise. If you need it, electricity is available 24/7 and the kitchen is equipped w/ everything you need for preparing simple meals. Ocean front with a private beach which is cleaned almost everyday by the groundskeeper (he’ll open coconuts too!) recliners and hammocks! All the beach toys you need, except snorkel gear. The location is convenient to grocery stores, town and excursions. Great location between cabanas and restaurants. I will book again!

Friends Paul and Sara asked us to share their vacation with them. Not speaking Spanish and apprehensive about Mexico, I thought of Hawaii or even a 'closed environment' like Cancun. I am thankful we went to Tulum and stayed at CASA TRANQUILLO instead. I am always skeptical about glowing guestbook comments on a rental website but amen to all of the positive comments. We were immersed in 'real' Mexican/Mayan culture but with all the comforts of home. We always felt safe and welcome around town. We shopped at the local grocery store, drove a rental car and had no problems getting around. Craig and Mike were exceptional hosts, giving us tailored advise on where to go, what to see and where to eat (if you get homesick for American food go to the very clean Subway on the east side of the main drag on the south side of town - I could eat there every day), and we feel they are more friends than hosts. We want to bring back our two kids still at home (13 & 17) to experience what we did. I have a high-pressure job and, having been to various parts of the US and in other countries for vacations, this was THE MOST RELAXING vacation in my life. No phones (Craig/Mike have a cell we used to ask him a couple of questions), no TV (there, but never used) no internet, no news or any other distractions - just pure relaxation sleeping in the hammock on the beach, snorkeling and swimming in clear, deliciously warm Caribbean water and listening to the waves and feeling the warm trade winds lull us to sleep at night. Go up on the roof at night to watch the stars or, in our case, a full moon. It was breathtaking. It is a perfect location to make day trips to Maya ruins (get the Tulum ruins tour guide named Lemuel or his brother)and other sights. In summary - it was wonderful, exceeding my high expectations thanks to Craig and Mike. Go with family or another couple or two. I am so pleased with this vacation and the house, I am glad to email a few photos to anyone who might be reluctant at staying at CASA TRANQUILLO in Tulum.

This home is located in a very cool beach community and the privacy was great. The beach is stunning, clean and the water clear and very warm. We loved boggie boarding and snoozing in the hammocks. This beach house has all the comforts of home and is built in a very eco-friendly way. The beds are REALLY comfortable and words can not explain the view of the beach during a full moon. We loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves. The kitchen has everything you need. Bedrooms VERY spacious. Satelite TV, BBQ, sand toys for kids. The hosts (Craig and Mike)were really great. They could not have been more accomodating and helpful (both with the house and ideas on what to do and how to get around). They were easy to get a hold of using the local cell phone that's in the house. We loved it and didn't want to leave. We highly recommend this to anyone looking for an incredible vacation. We loved staying at Casa Tranquillo!! Our sister was married at Anna y Jose's and it was so convenient to walk from the house to the hotel. The house was much larger than I had imagined, the beds really comfortable with nice linens, the kitchen big enough to allow 3 or 4 of us in there at a time while people could visit across the bar counter. It was so great to have a kitchen. We bought fresh fish from the Fishermen's Cooperativa in town. The grill was great for fish, chicken, and poblano peppers! We made fresh salsas and shopped at the markets in town. The Grocery store was convenient as well, but I love the atmosphere of the markets and the produce was fresher. I also love supporting local family businesses. The roof top was such a pleasant place to be at sunset and at night, the stars are still so visible and bright. I like the conservative use of electricity along the beach in Tulum because it preserves the night sky. The view of the jungle is amazing from the roof and the birds migrate south in the evenings passing by at eye level. I also appreciated the lovely landscaping which gave a nice amount of privacy between the house and the beach. Thank you Mike and Craig for all of your thoughtful amenities and attention, being there to do minor repairs (the gas grill was back on track within a couple of hours!). We hope to be back soon!

The house is just perfect. Right on the stunning Tulum beach, close to nice restaurants, quiet (except for the sound of waves and gentle breeze), roomy (big enough for two families) and equipped with all that's needed for a beach vacation. The attention and details provided by Mike and Craig is a great plus to all this. We would (and will) come back any time.

We came back for our second visit - and everything was even more fun than the year before. Getting to know the area, the people, and the little city is just as exciting and adventurous as this first time. The accomadations were great - clean and working well. The private beach has was extremely clean and great outdoor furniture to relax and enjoy the perfect weather! Mike and Craig did it again - thanks so much for the time in paradise - We want to come back soon.

We would highly recommend Casa Tranquillo. We were in a last minute bind when a previous rental fell thru and Mike did everything possible to help us out. We had a lot of people in the house (which was why we didn't book it originally) but it worked out in the long run. There were a few issues with the water, but one of them was always available by the cell phone they left for us. The HUGE fruit "table" (couldn't even be contained in a basket) fed our group all week...and the fresh cookies and fridge full of beer was an amazing gift - and much appreciated when we arrived late in the evening that first day. The location right on the beach was amazing, and I miss falling asleep to the sounds of the waves. It sounds like they've already taken care of any suggestions I might have added....but maybe a new shower head in the lower bath. Thanks again Mike & Craig.

We LOVED our stay at the beach house! We brought our four children ages 13, 10, 6, and 4 and they all had a wonderful time. The house was very accomodating with everything we needed. There is so much to see and do in Tulum!- we will definitely go back to the same house and finish what we missed! We would absolutely recommend this house to anyone! It's fun to hear the ocean waves and to walk out the front to a beautiful beach / ocean view. The beach is not crowded like Can Cun. Plenty of crab/ turtle hunting and the kids loved body surfing every day. My husband enjoyed reading his book under the palapa! Craig and Mike are easy to get in contact with to help or give advice. VERY nice guys thay went over and beyond what a hotel clerk would do. It's a beautiful place to visit - a "real" Mexican place without the tourist hype. A great education for our children along with a beautiful place to vacation!

Tulum and Casa Tranquillo were truly amazing and totally exceeded our very high expectations. The pictures do NOT do this place justice - it is very spacious and bright and has everything you need, including satellite tv and boogie boards! The beach is breath-taking, and the rooftop deck is the icing. Mike & Craig were wondeful hosts - can't wait to return.

What an amazing week! The house is HUGE and amazing. It was better than promised. The king size beds were so comfortable. Honestly, I've never slept better. There is no air conditioning, but the breezes off the ocean kept us cool the entire time, and we were there in the middle of July! It's like being in another world. Our teenagers didn't even turn on the TV. We bought all our groceries locally and cooked our meals in the kitchen. It had everything we needed. Don't miss star gazing from the roof-top. There were so many shooting stars we lost count. The absolute best part was about 11 pm, these giant sea turtles come out of the ocean to lay thier eggs! We got right up close to them, took pictures and petted them. Then we watched as they dug massive holes and laid thier eggs. It was incredible! No way could you do all this cool stuff at a cookie-cutter resort. Thanks for everything! We can't wait untill next year!

The house was perfect! We stayed there for 5 days and everything was as promised: great house with all the amenities we needed, perfect location, walking distance to restaurants and bars and close to the bioreserve. Mike was super helpful, provided a lot of helpful info and made our stay so pleasant and easy. I would definitely rent this house again.

Truly enjoyed the calm serenity and privacy. Great beach, wonderful restaurants within walking distance. Accomodations were everything you promised! Hope to visit again in 2007 and make an annual family event.
