beautiful spot--and sparkling new cabin--with nice hosts

We loved it here. The cabin is several minutes from Abiquiu in an absolutly beautiful green valley. The view from the front porch is wonderful. We stayed three days, and most of it was spent on the front porch. Tranquil and quiet. We were entertained constantly by three hummingbirds who frequented the feeder on the porch. Pretty farmlands with a river running through the little vally. It was the prettiest spot we had seen in the area. You could go into Santa Fe and or Taos, but it is sooooooooo nice right on the porch. The tiny town of Abiquiu has an excellent place to eat--Abiquiu Inn--do not miss the tamale cakes. Wow. Gourmet. They were the best things we had had for a long time. The log cabin is light and airy with a tall ceiling. There is a nice kitchen area. and table for eating. It has plenty of room for a couple or small family. You will need to be able to get up rather small stairs to the upstairs bewdroom but it is not difficult. The owners of the cabin are very nice, and live nearby if you need anything. We will be back for sure.. (we are not hikers but there seems to be lots of great opportunites for hiking, and you are near LAke Abiquiu.

Perfect Escape from Santa Fe

Guest: Kirbs (Santa Fe)
Date of Stay: 07/01/11 Review Submitted: 07/04/11

Just spent three very relaxing days at the cabin away from cell phones, email and other distractions (although they have wi-fi). Finally a chance to sit and catch up on reading. Canones is a gorgeous hidden valley that has beckoned us since our first drive up the pastoral canyon. The owners, Grace and Felix, are wonderful people—exceedingly gracious and hospitable. Plus, we were able to take our three small dogs, which is always a plus (the spiral staircase was a huge hit with one of them). Day drive included a trip to El Vado lake which was made even more spectacular by the first big rain of the season. This is some of the prettiest country in Northern New Mexico and the cute little cabin made it all the more enjoyable.

Scenic Retreat!

Guest: Stacey (Jayton, Texas)
Date of Stay: 12/26/10 Review Submitted: 01/05/11

My husband and I stayed here for our 25th Anniversary. We were delighted with the secluded setting and the rustic cabin, and even though it was the end of December, we were toasty warm. The owners made us feel very welcome and were sure to include everything we could possibly need in the cabin. On our last day there, it had snowed while we were out sightseeing and when we returned, the snow had even been shoveled away from the porch! Thank you Felix and Grace, for providing such a tranquil setting and making us feel like we were at home. This was a perfect romantic getaway for us.

The Perfect Getaway ~

Guest: Teresa (Albuquerque, NM)
Date of Stay: 09/22/10 Review Submitted: 10/17/10

The road leading to the cabin runs along a babbling creek swirling among stunning southwestern landscape. I took nearly 100 photo's on this last 3 mile stretch before arriving at the cabin! The cabin is a haven of peace and serenity. I was fortunate enough to stay during a full moon. The porch is perfect for stargazing and moon rises *gasp* .The porch will become your vaction spot of choice but don't forget to get out and explore the vast wonder's of northern New Mexico. God's Country indeed. By the way, by the end of my 3 day stay I had taken well over 1000 awe inspiring photos and booked the cabin again the following month. Truly home away from home.

peaceful, charming with everything you might need for perfect vacation

I've just spent two weeks there, and I can say that it's the perfect place if you want to have great vacation time. If you like wilderness, hiking, nature, nice weather this is where you should go. The house itself has everything you need (even a washer and dryer that hare not mentioned), you can have your meals on the deck with superb view of the mountains, especially during breakfast when the sun is rising and the air is fresh, crisp and cool. The owners Mr and Mrs Valdez are very nice. The zucchinis they offered were excellent (especially on the BBQ). I definitively plan to get there again and I highly recommend the place.

Great experience!

My family and I stayed here over Christmas. What a great experience. Not only was it beautiful in the snow, but the owners were really friendly who went out of there way to make you feel welcome. Surprising how well it stays heated in the winter too. It was -5 one morning but warm inside with just space heaters. The loft is really neat.
