Papohaku Beach house description
OHANA (FAMILY) HOUSE DESCRIPTION OF ACCOMMODATIONS: (www.papapaplantation.com)
Papapa Plantation is situated above the south end of Papohaku Beach, on the West end of Molokai. The house is situated on six private acres landscaped in the beautiful Hawaiian garden style and is adjacent to a bird refuge. The house is approximately 5800 Square feet consisting of four private suites. The suites are in two separate 2-story villas (one up and one down). The villas are located off the northwest and southeast corners of the Ohana (family) house. They are connected to the ohana house via screened-in covered walkways. 3 suites contain a king size bed, phone, and private bathroom and the 4th suite has 2 single beds which can be turned into another king if needed. The suites are surrounded by large screened-in covered Lanai’s. All four suites also contain folding mattress, which are suitable for children. This provides a maximum sleeping capacity of 8 adults and 4 children. All four suites have great ocean views, Lanai chairs and tables.
The house and cottage are only rented out to one group at a time so whether you are 2 people or 16 the whole property is yours. The rates are as follows: up to 2 bedrooms is $375 per night, 3 bedrooms is $450 per night, 4 bedrooms is $525 per night and if you need to add the cottage (total of 5 bedrooms + loft with full size futon) the rate $675 per night
The ohana house is constructed out of Canadian Cedar in the traditional Hawaiian ‘post and beam’ style. It features 27ft high vaulted ceilings above 14ft high cedar walls, oak and tile floors. In the Great Room there is a large gourmet kitchen with a cook top island overlooking a large dining room and living room area. The kitchen includes a dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator with a built in icemaker and filtered water dispenser. The kitchen comes with all standard cooking utensils and place settings for up to 16 people. The dining room table can seat 10-12 people. There is also a half bathroom and wet bar located here as well. The initial supply of soap, paper towels and toilet supplies are included. Linens, bath towels and beach towels are also provided. Off the kitchen there is a covered and screened-in Lanai that contains a large gas grill, which overlooks the pool area. In the other direction toward the front porch there is a laundry room with washer and dryer. Other amenities in the main house are as follows: phone/answering machine, Office jet printer with usb cable (copy, fax, scan etc.), 50” Plasma flat screen TV with a DVD/VCR combo, satellite TV via the Direct TV that includes local channels as well as HD channels, A DVR for recording shows, numerous board games, puzzles, library of VHS tapes, and a Sony stereo(includes MP3 connection) with a CD player located in the bar area. Speakers are located inside and out so you can listen to your favorite music on the deck or in the pool or Jacuzzi.
There are large covered Lanai’s on both the front entrance and the back of the ohana house. The back covered Lanai overlooks a large deck, a private in-ground swimming pool, Cabana with refrigerator, 6-8 person Jacuzzi spa and a beautiful ocean view of Oahu’s Diamond Head in the distance. It’s also a great place to watch the sunset or stargaze at night. There are numerous Lanai chairs situated all around the pool and deck for relaxing and sunning. The house is on the west end of the island, so you also get to see amazing sunsets from almost anywhere on the property while listening to the ocean waves roll in. Papohaku beach is just down the hill about 300 yards away. It is the largest white sand beach in all of Hawaii, but don’t be surprised to find yourself alone on it. The sand is soft and it is a wonderful place to go watch the surf, and just plain relax. The local people have made it a point to keep development a thing of the future so most of the island (especially the west side) is virtually untouched. If for some reason you don’t want to walk down to the beach (health reasons etc.), there is a path/road that allows you to drive down to it. The advantage is that you can pack up the Papapa beach chairs and cooler and not worry about lugging it all by hand. So take off your shoes, relax and enjoy your stay on Molokai.

We just got back from Papapa Plantation and we loved every minute of it. The onsite manager was excellent and accommodating both she and the owner went out of their way to ensure our stay was perfect. The house is spacious and well appointed, we didn't need anything while we were there, the kitchen had everything we needed and wanted, the house was clean and well planned out. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept like babies with the sound of the ocean nearby crashing. Our group consisted of 4 adults and a 1,2 and 3 year old and there were plenty of sand toys, pack and plays and everything we needed for the little ones as well. The house is on the dry side of the island which we loved as we had sunshine every day for the pool, we adventured to the more wet and lush east side of the island and really enjoyed the calm beaches there. The beach near the house is beautiful but not the best for swimming, it is however amazing for walking, beach combing and sunsets. We will for sure be back again, in fact, we are thinking of making Papapa an annual tradition.

Party of eight
Party of eight
Upon our arrival we noted home was rustic and dated...However, we considered that very charming. Entire home, to include rooms, kitchen, pool and jacuzzi, was very clean. We had a very early arrival, in Molokai, because of limited flight schedule. We were allowed an early check in, and when we arrived at 9am, Teri was gracious and welcomed us warmly. Also, provided cream for early morning coffee, and bringing over fresh mango and the local newspaper. House was large and spacious, for eight adults who like to get together, but also, like their own space at times. We were unable to use beach because of high winds and rough water. But, the pool and jacuzzi were great. View from the back of house, over the pool, was unbelievable. Our biggest regret, was that we only had three nights to spend at Papapa Plantation. Hopefully longer next time. We would recommend this property to relatives and friends, (most of our friends were with us). I think, anyone, would be hard pressed not to rate this property excellent. A big MAHALO NUI LOA, to both Todd and Teri.

Peace and quiet, privacy, natural beauty.
Peace and quiet, privacy, natural beauty.
we planned five days here after being on Maui for the previous five days and it ended up being a great decision. the property is very well equipped from the kitchen to beach chairs and coolers etc. It was a home away from home. The beach below the property is beautiful but not swim-able. To swim it's a three minute drive to the south to get to the small but very nice Dixie Maru where you can also snorkel. We enjoyed the beautiful TV and DVR a couple of nights as well as the outdoor speakers for the stereo. Restaurants are quite a ways away so we cooked in - were able to buy a fresh tuna from some fishermen on the main street in town selling from their truck. The nearest village, Maunaloa with a store for basic provisions is about 15 minutes away and the main town about a half hour. Moloka'i was to me "real Hawaii" and I would recommend this property for families or couples looking for some quiet time. The only disappointment was that the hot tub was not heating while we were there though I presume it is normally in working order.

Manager response: Thanks so much for your wonderful review. Sorry the hot tub was not working properly during your stay. Let me know if there is any we can do to rectify that issue for you. In regards to Papohaku beach being not swimmable it mainly depends on the time of year. In the summer months the channel is usually calm and the beach is very swimmable (sand all the way out) but during the winter months the channal between Molokai and Oahu tends to get more rough producing bigger waves so your less likely to see calm swimmable days in the winter months as you would in the summer. Really just depends on the timing of your stay and a little luck. Of course there is always Dixie Maru beach which is great for little kids and snokeling. Thanks again and we look forward to having you back soon.
Loved Everything!!! Beautiful, Relaxing Molokai Time!
Loved Everything!!! Beautiful, Relaxing Molokai Time!
We stayed at Papapa August 15-24, 2011. The photos do not do this place justice. I really don't think photos could ever capture the absolute magical, relaxing ambience of the entire setting. There were 7 of us and more than plenty of room for all and more. If you fly into Molokai on the evening flight, be sure to go into Kaunakakai and visit the Friendly Market or Misaki's and the liquor store across the street, before heading out to Papapa. Because once you arrive at Papapa Plantation you will not want to leave. It is heavenly. We did several day trips, but was always happy to return to Papapa and enjoy! We swam at Dixie Maru Beach, we snorkeled at 20 mile Beach, we swam at Halawa Cove (beautiful, must do drive), we took the Ferry over to Maui, we took many walks on Papohaku Beach and flew our kite, there are several other beaches to visit and lots of fun exploring to find them. If you are looking for a good coffee drinks and free wifi go to the Coffee Plantation and be sure to have a Mocha Momma...yum! My husband golfed at Ironwood, he enjoyed the course and the relaxed atmosphere. When time allows, we will be back to Molokai. And Papapa would be our only choice for accommodations. It is like staying at your own private resort.

Loved it! All of it!
Loved it! All of it!
We absolutely loved everything about this vacation. The Island itself (be prepared as cost of living is high and it shows mostly at the grocery), the people--they call it "The friendly Isle" and the house and grounds. I now covet the house--shame on me ;). From the wonderfully spacious Ohana house to the individual suites to the cottage house to the pool and spa to the beautiful flora and fauna to watching the whales play in the channel--loved every bit of it! Teri (the caretaker) was awesome and make us feel at home from before out trip to even now, contacting us and mailing us a couple items we forgot! Absolutely cannot say enough good about it. I highly recommend staying at Papapa Plantation.

Todd the new website is Awesome! You have thourghly pin pointed all the questions that goes through someone's mind when looking at websites for places to stay. The new website is very informative and you picked the best pictures of the house. Papapa Plantation is the best place to have a family gathering. The house is very comfortable, relaxing. Everything you'll need comes with the house. My favorite part was the welcome to papapa basket of Molokai goodies, that was an extra special touch. Trust me when I say, I'd rent papapa again, my family loved their time there

One of the most relaxing places we have every been. I highly reccommend not only Papapa but the island of molokai in general. It really is the island that time forgot. We had 4 couples and it still seemed like there was plenty of space for more. If you get a chance, go to the cook house in hoolehua it's the best on the island (bring your own drinks) we had a blast. Also, you can get fresh hot bread from the bakery in Kaunakaki from 10pm to 2am (I believe?) it is awesome. The pool, jacuzzi and view at Papapa was amazing. The house itself is clean and really big but very tastfully done. the caretaker, Teri, was great to work with. It had almost every ammenity I can think of accept wireless internet. We would definetely go back. We stayed there January 10th-16th 2007 Dan Blick
