We stayed here almost a week, 6 nights. We were delighted at the look of the property, artsy decor, pool in back, and the fact that they allowed our 2 dogs to travel with us. The owners were helpful before our stay via email. However, once we were coming into the city, the property manager at the Lions Inn said he was going to bed and we could get the key from the mailbox. He told me about 5 times on the phone to make sure the gate stayed locked for our safety. When we arrived, there was a huge ladder blocking our way to get around to most of the pool. Ladder leaned on building on the RIGHT. Over the next few days, there were workmen in and out of our "private" area WITHOUT our consent--some working on the roof on the building to the RT, & LEFT of this property--staring in at us since there is ZERO privacy in this house. That's right, there is NO WAY to close any curtains to keep workmen from looking in. I have pictures of this. When we complained, the 2 innkeepers at the Lions Inn were rude, irritable & indignant, and said we were free to climb up and hang towels over the windows, that the nice people needed their roof fixed, their lovely furniture was being ruined by rain. The workmen banged on the roof daily, walked freely in and out of our supposedly "PRIVATE" pool area/tiny courtyard, stood around smoking in our tiny walkway, and left materials where you could barely get in and out of the gate--which by the way is the ONLY way into the property. For "safety" according to the innkeepers, there is NO front or side door to access the Honeymoon Cottage. The gate was left OPEN 1 day and it was a miracle our dogs did not get out and get run over! The innkeeper suggested that WE left it open, which we did NOT. Also, the innkeepers would just let themselves into the "private" courtyard/pool area whenever they needed something, even if it was to ask us a question. Again, there are NO curtains, shades, shutters, etc. on the French doors facing out to the pool (or on the windows in the house, as previously mentioned). Therefore if you want privacy, you are COMPLETELY out of luck at the ironically named "Honeymoon Cottage." We politely reported these things to the innkeepers, who did nothing until the day before we were leaving. At that point they seemed to think they were doing us a big favor by asking the workmen to continue the work after we left. The owners also did nothing. I have been to N.O. more than100 times in 40 yrs. I suggest staying elsewhere.

Awesome Gem in the Marigny

My husband and I were fortunate to find this gem in the Marigny from 12/23 - 12/30/11. Our daughter lives around the corner and we did not want to stay in a hotel for a week nor impose in her home. Needless to say, this home was cozy, bright, inviting and very pleasing. There might have been a few quirks but knowing the homes in New Orleans, it was expected. The daugher didn't even want to leave our rental to go home for all the reasons given above. We will for sure repeat this rental for we come to New Orleans at least every 6-8 weeks!

I stayed at the cottage last year, with a friend. The location could not be more ideal, situated only steps from Frenchmen Street and the kind of music that transports you and only minutes from the Quarter. Close enough to enjoy the fun, but far enough to enjoy the quiet, hear the mockingbirds and commune with a friendly frog, poolside, who came to visit on several occasions during our stay. Said frog even performed a rather complicated navigation of the jacuzzi cover, for our enjoyment. I can't say enough about this rental and I'm so looking forward to returning, in June this year, that I'm writing this, as I've come to remind myself of just how very lovely it is. The courtyard and its lap pool and hot tub are wonderful, but only compliment the gracious and comfortable accommodations. If you don't dig this place, I can't imagine it!

My husband and I loved staying here a week for our one-year anniversary. First, please know that the blue satin bedspread has been replaced by much more tasteful bedding! Also, if you have any concerns regarding kitchenette vs. kitchen, know that for us, the kitchenette worked out just fine. The city and neighborhood abound with excellent restaurants, of course, and we had more take-out containers filled with leftovers than we knew what to do with! Also, one of the best breakfast cafes in New Orleans, The Cake Cafe & Bakery, is literally just a few steps away. There is not a shower, just a claw-foot tub with a handheld shower head, which makes bathing a fun adventure. The pool was too cold for swimming in October, but the hot tub was blissful -- and I bet the cold lap pool is amazing during the hot & humid summer months. The owners and caretakers are wonderful, as are the neighbors. The location felt perfect to us: cute neighborhood, quiet street with easy parking, & walking distance to the French Quarter.

A Real Gem in Old New Orleans

The ad totally lives up to the experience, and I thought I'd add just a few comments since we had such a GREAT time!! The property is very private and nicely appointed, and we thoroughly enjoyed the very unusual lap pool and hot tub combo. The patio area containing the pool is shady, quiet, quite private and restful ... it was a real joy just getting to relax out there under the trees. Inside are three large rooms with hardwood floors; a living area with a kitchen at one end (not a full kitchen, i.e., no stove, but much more than a kitchenette), a huge bathroom with some serious old-tyme hardware in there including a very large free-standing tub, and the bedroom at the front of the place with a very comfortable bed (a tad on the soft side for my taste, but comfy nonetheless). Televisions are in the bedroom and the living room if you're into that. But there's also a large bulletin board behind the couch with lots of hints, and even some coupons for things to do around town, and there's wasn't any problem with parking out front on the street (for free!). The folks that run the place, Floyd & Ed, were really nice people, and went out of their way to let us in around 1:30 in the morning when our flight got into town. All-in-all we consider this place to be one of the better choices we ever made in terms of a vacation rental, and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

A peaceful spot in the Marigny for romance and relaxation

We spent 5 nights at the cottage and had a wonderful, relaxing stay. This section of the Marigny is quiet, peaceful, and funky, away from the noise of Frenchmen Street but close enough to walk to clubs to hear music. The cottage featured a firm and comfortable king sized bed, and a kitchenette with full-sized fridge to store our Abitas and muffellattas. The huge bathroom is charming, but only has a bath- no shower- we enjoyed it but it might be frustrating for people who love showers. The lap pool and hot tub in the private walled garden added so much enjoyment to our trip- we spent most of our time there. It wasn't cold enough to need the gas fireplace, but it makes a charming focal point in the living room. Overall, if you love the Marigny, love privacy, and love charm, and love pools and hottubs, this is a great place to stay!
