Pura Vida! Casa Miramar is a private, comfortable Costa Rican getaway, located a cool 800 feet above the Pacific Ocean and the thriving town of Uvita. This modern and spacious two bedroom, two bath main house sleeps five people comfortably. Casa Miramar also offers a secluded smaller house - the casita - which has one bedroom and includes a bath, kitchen and large veranda and is sure to charm two additional guests.

Other than the weekly visit of the gardener and housekeeper (included in rates) you can lull away the days in your veranda hammock enjoying the ocean, mountain and river valley views, or take a dip in the inviting pool in sublime peace and privacy.

A great vantage spot for birdwatchers, the veranda is a stage for watching and listening to the local birdlife. To name just a few, there are resident falcons, toucans, tanagers, parrots, of course hummingbirds, and what we call the "mystery bird". It's song is beautiful and unique, but the bird is very shy and has yet to be seen. Many butterflies will delight you as they visit the mariposa garden.

From the moment you drive through the gated entryway, the view can take your breath away. An arched veranda borders the pool with a large deck of crushed coral for more party and family room in the garden. Our newest addition is a "Bali Shade Hut", which offers a comfortable spot to rest under the thatch fronds. A charcoal bbq rounds out the fun by the pool.
The master wing holds a spacious bathroom with two sinks, a jacuzzi tub with an awesome jungle view, and two showers. The master bed is dramatically framed by arched windows looking out to the "Whales Tail", Costa Rica's only marine park. Teak floors make your first steps of the morning pleasant.

The second wing has a spacious bathroom with skylight, and a bedroom with one queen and one single bed.
The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances, double sink with dishwasher.
The living room has an entertainment cabinet with a tv for dvd viewing, and opens onto the veranda through french doors making an optional open living area.

Casa Miramar is located not far off (2 kilometers) the Costaneros Highway, but at certain times of the year, a four-wheel drive vehicle is necessary for the unpaved road to the house.

Located along the newly paved Costaneros Highway, Uvita is south of the colorful surfer town of Dominical and north of Ojochal. Casa Miramar is a perfect headquarters for jumping to the Osa Peninsula by sea or by road, and to points north or inland. You'll find that friendly Uvita is a thriving village where you can stay close to home and be thoroughly entertained. Choose from a variety of sports and sightseeing tours including a 'not to miss' horseback tour through the jungle to a waterfall followed by a gallop along the ocean.

There is a wide selection of restaurants in the area. A modern grocery store, tour guides, unspoiled beaches and waterfalls are all nearby. Though the area is growing at a fast pace, there is still that sense of "back in time" with locals riding on horseback down the main street. Uvita offers modern conveniences, including our local Internet bakery with yummy desserts, where you're bound to run into some very interesting people.

Come to Costa Rica. Like nowhere else.

  • Peaceful setting with incredible views! Was a great location for exploring the central and southern part of CR. We stayed here on our honeymoon for a little over 2 weeks in June '08 and saw 2 types of toucans, a green parrot and several other pretty birds almost every day and all from the patio of Casa Miramar. The drive up to the residence is really fun and you definitely need a 4x4 after a good rainfall. Would definitely recommend this place! Grocery stores in Uvita were great too! Housekeepers were very friendly and helpful as well.

  • A piece of paradise; my wife and I booked a six week tour of Costa Rica and ended up spending four of those six weeks at Casa Miramar. No pictures could ever capture the beauty of this casa on the hill. Spectacular views, spacious, air-conditioned master suite and the serenity of a dipping pool, made us feel like royalty. Private enough to be as free as we wanted to be, while conveniently located above Las Terrazas restaurant and less than a five minute drive to the grocery store, ten minute drive to the state park or twenty minutes to Dominical, we found this place to be ideal. The level of hospitality shown to us by the owner was unmatched. We definitely look forward to our next stay, perhaps a few months! Pura Vida!

  • There is nothing to compare to waking up to a symphony of bird songs and a cup of Costa Rican coffee in this beautiful spot. The surprise was the 4 or 5 gourmet restaurants close by...one within walking distance. It is the best of both worlds...serene and private, gorgeous views and the option of exploring the jungle and enjoying exceptional food. We loved it!

  • We just returned from spending 4 weeks at casa Miramar and had a wonderful time. The views are spectacular, especially while sipping a pina colada on the deck of the casita. Toucans and aricaris came to visit us every morning and evening. The house was exactly as portayed if not better. The owners, Mac and Sharon, are great people who truly want their renters to have a memorable vacation. With any luck we'll be back again. Pura Vida

We were on our honeymoon and really appreciated the privacy, the tranquility and the views, not to mention the high comfort level. We recommend highly. As noted elsewhere a 4WD is strongly advised to access the entry track.

  • The house overlooks the whale tale and it was spectacular watching the reef appear with the tides. Every morning we had our morning coffee and breakfast and visits from the toucans. Days were spent hiking to the waterfall or fishing, and it was great to have a home base to return and watch the electric sunset, sitting on top of the world. The air conditioned master bedroom was very comfortable and the bathrooms were very roomy and nicely tiled. The decor and linens were very nice. The home is well cared for. We have stayed in several places in this area (including another home), and this is a great value for all of the comforts of home. The second bedroom does get a little warm if you're not used to the climate. We had a four wheel drive and would recommend having one to get to this property. If we were coming during the rainy season it would most likely be required.
