Halfway between the great wilderness of the Grand Tetons and the chic downtown of Jackson Hole is an aspen-covered hillside that is truly heaven’s backyard. Here, facing the sprawling plains and mountains, is Nestledown. Built from weathered barn wood and stacked farm stone, this new house looks as if it has commanded the view from its 1.3 acre rise for a very long time. Nestledown is uncluttered and elegant, inspired as much by Arts and Crafts design as the silhouettes of the Tetons visible through the wide windows. A vaulted ceiling arches over the kitchen, dining room and Great Room. The house has a simple, minimalist aesthetic, but no detail has been overlooked. The kitchen has a fabulous, professional stove, and a center island with two sinks and a granite counter. Just off of the kitchen is an office, also with a granite work surface. The dining room comfortably seats ten, and shares a tall, stacked stone gas fireplace with the living room. A radiant heating system keeps the hardwood and stone floors decadently warm. In the master bedroom, there is a king bed, two walk-in closets and a flat screen television; its private bathroom has double sinks, steam shower, jetted-soaking tub and separate toilets. The two guest bedrooms both have queen beds and coffered ceilings. They share a bath with a tub and shower. Downstairs, there is a huge flat screen TV, high performance audio, and a deep sectional sofa. There is also a game room with a ping-pong table and a marble bar with a sink, refrigerator and ice maker. The house’s exercise room is equipped with a Bowflex machine, Stairmaster and television. This area could also be used for overflow sleeping and is right next to a full bathroom with sink and shower. Outside is a wide stone patio with a grill, hot tub and fire pit; and, at night, a broad ceiling of stars. Just beyond is a croquet and badminton court, groomed in summer to a swath of green velvet. The house has a two-car garage and a series of romantic outdoor lights that guide you in and from the darkness. Nestledown is the kind of place you want to enter, and stay in for a good long while. |
