COMMENTS FROM OUR GUESTS:
'In our 48 years renting dozens of vacation places from Maine to SW Florida, we recall none that approached perfection to the degree that Cold Mountain Retreat has. In all respects, it is magnificent with a fantastic setting, amazing interior decorating and attention to every small detail...
The O'Connors, August 2010
'We have spent six wonderful weeks in this lovely and peaceful home on Cold Mountain. We love the Waynesville area. Some favorites are:
Summer Solstice on Waterrock Nob, Two full moons--so bright that we could see up the mountain from the bedroom window, Starry, starry nights; 64-74 degrees on the deck every morning; fireworks in Maggie Valley;swimming holes and waterfalls.....
The Hazens June-July 2011
'Once again we enjoyed being in your lovely, comfortable home. Dad fell in love with the butterfly bushes and the butterflies that arrived each morning. We loved kicking back on the deck, grilling meals, and exploring Waynesville. The Mast General Store is a favorite. Next year we plan to bring more of the gang. The Sullivans and Kennedys, September 2009.
'A cloud in our living room! We could look down on the clouds and one even came inside exciting our children. Staying in your home has been the highlight of our year. Thank you for all the thoughtful extras you have provided.' Smith's, June 2009.

This is our 3rd stay. My grandchildren and my husband and I love coming here. The spaciousness, the amenities, and location are ideal. The views from the living room and "grand" master bedroom are tranquil and breathtaking. This is truly a place where you feel comfortable and are able to relax. The grandkids went tubing in Maggie Valley. snowboarding in Cattaloochee, spent the the day at The Fun Depot in Asheville, played at the public park in Waynesville, and hiked around the property. The day we left my grandson asked, "Have you booked this house for next Christmas vacation?"You could say that sums up the fun to be had here!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

My family and I have stayed at this home twice now. Its location is perfect for all of the areas we like to visit when we're in the Smoky Mountains! Waynesville is a 10 minute drive and Asheville is 25-30 minutes away! We have stayed in multiple homes in the mountains and this Chalet is by far one of our favorites! I almost didn't write a review due to wanting to "keep the secret of this home to ourselves"! You won't go wrong staying in this home. The owners are GREAT to deal with!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, tourists without a car, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway, people with disabilities.

If you like beautiful sunsets, wood burning fireplaces, a location close to many of the cities, wonderful views and all the amenities you need, you will love this house! We went at peak leaf season, but would go back and explore more in the summertime. So close to Waynesville and Asheville, our two favorite towns in North Carolina. I love wood burning fireplaces and this house has two! The owner's were also very helpful in providing us information. Great food close by, too!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Yes, we stayed here for six wonderful weeks in this lovely and peaceful home on Cold Mountainl. We love the Waynesville area....Some of our favorites have been: Summer solstice on Waterrock Nob; two full moons--so bright that we could see up the mountain from the bedroom; 64-74 degrees on the deck in the mornings; picking berries with grandkids and making fresh cobbler; fireworks in Maggie Valley; squirrel nest at eye level; butterflies as large as small birds; a hummingbird who would come eye-to-eye on the deck many mornings; lunch at Pisgah in on the Blue Ridge Parkway; and so much more.Did you find this review helpful? Thank you, Barbara and Rob, for letting our family meet in your beautuful chalet. My father's favorite activity was watching the butterflies on your butterfly bushes. He is ready to buy one to take home to PA! You had eveything a multi-generational gathering needs to be fun. We loved our outings on US 276 to waterfalls and on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Strolling around Waynesville provided something for all of us to enjoy. We plan to be back next summer.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/3

The National Park Service has repopulated elk in this section of the Smoky Mountain National Park. The best viewing time is at sunset. We like taking a picnic dinner to eat while watching the wild elk peruse the meadows. A pioneer village has been restored with houses, school, church and farm.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: Rob Dulaney (behind the Elk antler) and Barbara Bishop are high school sweethearts who married 26 years later. Rob is a consulting engineer and Barbara is a marriage and family therapist, consultant, educator and retreat leader. Her practice, Soul Focus Resources, is in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. We enjoy our professions, and we also love spending time with our three grown children and four grandchildren. Traveling is on our list of pleasures. One of our goals is to hike in all the major national parks in the United States. In 2009 we explored the Grand Canyon. In 2010 we explored Mesa Verde. National Park in Colorodo. In Sept. 2010 we hiked in Scotland and England while exploring Celtic Christian sites. In May of 2011, Barbara spent two weeks on pilgrimage in Jordan and Israel. In May we will visit the Joshua Tree National Park in California. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is our frequent hiking ground since it is so close to Cold Mountain Retreat.
Why the Owner Chose Waynesville:
After vacationing on Cold Mountain for more than a decade, we knew we loved repeat visits to the area. There is so much to do here that it is impossible to do it all. Rather than continuing to rent someone else's vacation home, we decided we wanted to build our own. Fortunately, some acerage was available for purchase. In 2005 and 2006 we built our Cold Mountain Retreat. It is truly our home in the mountains. Since we aren't here year round, we love sharing our home with others.
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet:
While in the mountains, try the adventures of zipline canopy tours, hot air ballooning or helicipter site-seeing as ways to see the mountains from above! Cold Mountain Retreat offers the best of quiet mountain life and the advantages of lovely small towns like Waynesville and Maggie Valley. For city advantages, Asheville is only a 25 to 30 minute drive. Parks, hiking trails and wilderness areas surround us. Much can be explored by car and the hiking is unequaled. In Waynesville there is the Haywood Regional Recreation Center that has indoor heated pools including a children's pool and slide area. In addition, there are raquetball & basketball courts, yoga classes, aerobic classes, indoor walking and jogging lanes, lcoker rooms, and much more for year round use.
