The Homestead, our restored farmhouse, is cradled in a setting of verdant greens and rainbow-hued colors, supplied by lush vegetation spread over two acres. The steep Ko’olau Mountains provide the backdrop, the blue Pacific Ocean the foreground.

You can immerse yourself in a Hawaii of days past. Awaken to the fragrance of floral essences, wafting on the gentle Trade Winds. Open your eyes to a breathtaking sunrise and listen to the chorus of exotic birds greeting the new day. Partake of some of the abundance the land provides such as mangoes, papaya, bananas, limes, oranges and coconut.

The house has three bedrooms, a living room with an adjoining dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, an office area, and inspiration or quiet room, a single bathroom with tub and shower and a mountainside lanai.

The two bedrooms are furnished with queen-size beds and attractive island décor, the third bedroom has a full bed and cheerful tropical colors. The living room is equipped with a TV with Oceanic Time Warner cable and CD/DVD player. In addition to the traditional rattan couch and chair, it is also furnished with a single fold down futon. The dining area can easily accommodate six. The inspiration or quiet room provides an area between the two bedrooms for playing cards or reading. This is a great spot to start your day with a cup of coffee or tea.

An available full-size futon can provide additional sleeping for two.An office area has been in the expansive hallway leading to the lanai. The back Lanai has a table and chairs, as well as built in seating. There is a covered clothesline for drying clothes in the fresh air. A charcoal/gas grill is provided for those aspiring chefs.

Should you want to explore our island, there are numerous activities to lure you to other areas both near and far. The Polynesian Cultural Center offers an incredible introduction to the island and it's cultural heritage, just 5 minutes north by car. Sandy white beaches are at every turn of the road, often deserted during the week, a pleasure to walk, snorkel or simply relax in the sun. The closest beach is a mere 7 to 10 minute walk.

For the hiking enthusiasts, there are two mountain trails within a five minute walk, Hauula Loop Trail and Makapuu Ridge Trail. The famous Sunset Beach, site of numerous surfing competitions, is just 20 minutes north, further along is Waimea with an Audubon-sponsored park and fabulous beach. Then you come into Haleiwa, an old town established in the days of sugarcane and pineapples. It still exudes it's original charm. Do not miss the shave ice!

To the southeast is Kualoa Ranch, maybe a 20 minute drive. This is the site of numerous location shots for movies, such as Jurassic Park. It also hosts varied activities for all age groups including horseback riding, ATV riding, historical exhibits, World War II Bunkers and much more.

Shopping for groceries, visiting local eateries and small local shops with Hawaiian treasures is part of the Hauula experience. They all sustain our local economy and make living in Hauula such a pleasure. You too can experience the authentic Aloha of Hawaii, come join us at the Homestead.

Honolulu is about an hour away, the shopping, the entertainment, the museums, all exude the aura of a big city with all the accouterments. It is definitely worth the journey, but, so is coming back to the tranquility of The Homestead.

Owner's Map of Hauula

We bought our house to fulfill a dream of living off the land. The almost two acres provide us with many seasonal fruits and an abundance of flowers. Family responsibilities and job requirements often call us to different continents so it is a dream still in progress. In the meantime we opened the doors to allow visitors to our island the experience of the serenity of our Homestead. You will be welcomed with Aloha to our little piece of paradise.

Wonderful experience!

Unfortunately, we only had 2 nights here with a group of 8 as we would have stayed longer if possible! The owner was quick to respond to all emails/questions and was very helpful and kind. Everything we needed was made available. The home was plenty large for our group, very clean, and has beautiful surroundings. We were not there during the daytime, but had no problems at night. It is in a beautiful residential neighborhood, yet feels like you are away from it all. I would highly recommend this property! (and hope to be back someday!)

We just got back from the best vacation ever. Our arrival was a little un-nerving.We got in late and missed your driveway [address not visable from the street] Peter & Dottie's help was most welcomed and very much needed. The landscape and home discription were right on.infact you didn't put in that you have both mountain and ocean views. The house was clean and well cared for.It had all the out side [beech] toys, chairs, towles we needed. The kitchen was great it had every thing I needed for what cooking we did.The house size is perfect.Although it was just my housband and my self I could see may 3 adult children and their families being confortable their. The guide you posted for the Hauula area and your sudgestions were a great help Lots of beaches and otherr activities were near by.Again I say best vacation ever.We intend to tell all our friends how great it was.

Spacious Property, Noisy Neighborhood

Positives: Great rate for the size of the home, very spacious, ocean view from one bedroom, home owner was communicative and quick to respond to emails. Negatives: Tenants live right below the house on the lower level (was not disclosed prior to arrival, but they seem like nice people), tenants had a baby that cried for several hours during our first two days (we eventually decided to leave the house early and return late at night to avoid listening to the cries), house needed a more thorough cleaning (we found toe nail clippings on couch). The neighborhood is a typical one which has busy families, traffic, etc (we could hear morning conversations from other homes, child practicing a piano, a car alarm, emergency vehicle sirens). Overall, we experience similar surroundings at home, so nothing new to us, but we were disappointed to find that the peaceful setting we expected was not possible at the time we rented (maybe it's quieter at other times of the season (?). Perhaps, we are spoiled travelers since we usually stay in Pupukea where privacy is easy to find. Even with the great rate, we would pay extra for a different location because the busy life of this neighborhood (great community though) did not suit our desire for quiet and relaxation. This property is ideal for families, not really for couples or those wanting to escape a busy, hectic schedule.

A wonderful time at the Homestead!

Guest: Jenn (Michigan)
Date of Stay: 07/19/10 Review Submitted: 08/03/10

We just returned from our 11 day stay at the Homestead. We had a wonderful time! The location was perfect for us, we loved the peace and quiet of "the country", but made many trips to Honolulu and the North Shore and didn't feel the drive was bad at all. The beaches in the area are great. The house is very pleasant and perfect for our family (we traveled with young children). Brew is fantastic and very welcoming. We appreciated the botanical tour she gave us of the grounds. We enjoyed fresh mangos everyday. The house is located on a very quiet street with nice neighbors. While there isn't air conditioning, the breeze was nice and allowed you to listen to the birds, breeze, and ocean. I hope to visit again!

If you want to experience true Hawaiian living then this is the place for you.Located on the mountainside in a local neighborhood, the homestead is a large well equipped rental that is close to the highway and beach but very peaceful. Awaken in the mornings to the sounds of roosters crowing and birds singing.Great place to unwind. Sam and Anna made us feel very welcomed.

We really enjoyed staying at The Homestead. Very spacious and breezy, with all the amenities of home, and more (such as fresh tropical flowers). We certainly enjoyed watching the sunrise from the east-facing bedroom. Much more relaxing place to stay to see Oahu than being in Wakiki, yet still close to everything. There were only two of us but it would certainly accommodate 4 or 6 without any problem.

Much bigger place than the pictures show you. Very clean and many extra comforts such as beach toys, rags for cleaning, internet, cooking oil, seasoning, etc. Very comfortable with very nice Lanai for hanging out with your friends and family and enjoying the cool breeze and barbeque. A very good value.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that we absolutely loved the rental. The sound of the waves and the rain at night just put me right to sleep. I hated to come back home only to hear the sound of a heater in the middle of a cold 32 degree night. The gardens are spectacular. We definitely will be future customers. Thank you so much for your hospitality, we truely enjoyed our stay. Thanks again
