Le Mas des Loriots is a traditional stone built farmhouse situated on the edge of the medieval hamlet of Tornac, on the south facing foothills of the Cevennes.
Renovated to an exceptionally high standard with beautifully presented interiors, it has retained many of its original features which help to maintain the air of authenticity. Relax and unwind in the elegant sitting room or the comfy TV lounge; amuse yourselves in the music room with yamaha electric piano and artist's corner with painting facilities or challenge the family to a game of billiards or table tennis.
Outside, the front garden with shaded pergola (and bergerie with BBQ opposite) and the outer courtyard provide summer dining areas in which to eat and drink the wines from the local domains or simply enjoy the tranquillity with a good book. The immediate grounds landscaped with olive groves, lavender, figs and local foliage, lead to the fabulous 13m x 6m pool and the 20 acres beyond - a hidden paradise to explore!
Le Mas des Loriots is the perfect location to spend your holiday with the family or a group of friends. It is difficult to present this lovely property in limited words, there is so much to say about it!
Each of the 6 bedrooms is spacious and tastefully decorated and there are 4 bath or shower rooms. The 2 fully fitted and well equipped kitchens provide ample space to prepare your tasty Mediterranean meals with fresh local produce, whilst the many outdoor spaces offer a choice for taking breakfast or sipping your evening aperitifs. There is also a 3rd smaller kitchen for preparing snacks.
The high beamed entertaining room with wooden floors on the first floor has one of the fully fitted kitchens and a dining area, 2 elegant sofas, a chess table and a Hifi system, whilst there is a further lounge/library with sofas, TV/DVD and original fireplace.
The high ceilinged music room with electric piano and artist's corner leads to a grand mezzanine area above the billiard room with full size table. Take the doorway into the shaded rear courtyard where there are further outdoor sitting areas and vaulted cellars with bikes, a table tennis table and utilities.
The outdoor spaces provide a real retreat amongst the local flora, whilst the swimming pool and deck with stunning views across the distant vineyards allow you to loose yourself in this Mediterranean paradise. From the mas, you can explore the 20 acres of grounds, meandering through woodland and olive groves and taking old footpaths dating to Roman times.
If you can tear yourself away from the tranquillity and if you want to explore a little further than the beautiful countryside immediately surrounding the property - at once vineyards and 'garrigues', naturdal scrub land covered with fig and olive, oak and plane trees, there is an unending list of attractions and activities in the area.
For food and wine lovers, there is an abundance of gastronomic delights and wine domains:
A visit to the region would not be complete without visiting one of the many markets where pallets of local produce are displayed in glorious multicolour with aromas to entice, whilst the numerous fabulous restaurants also make use of the many Specialities of the Region on their menus such as:The Picholine Olive; Uzès Honey;The 'Pelardon' is the traditional goat's cheese of the Cevennes; The Uzège Truffle; Asparagus; Figs; Chestnuts; Camargue Rice; Shellfish. Dishes such as 'Boeuf à la Gardianne' and 'Brandade du Morue' should be tried and savoured!
Wine: Being a part of the largest wine producing region in France means that there is a wealth of expertise to be drawn on. Visit the numerous 'caves cooperatives' and private cellars and taste the various appellations such as St Gervais, Chusclan, Laudun, Pic St Loup and Regional Côtes du Rhône, Costières de Nimes and Tavel Rosé
Culture lovers can wander in and wonder at the towns and cities of historical significance in the area such as Nimes, Uzès, Montpellier, Arles, Orange and Avignon (Provence) or visit the delightful mediaeval towns of Vézénobres, Aigues Mortes, La Roque-sur-Cèze and St Guilhem-le-Désert (Hérault).
The area is a playground for both culture and fun: From the Mont Aigoual, the highest point in the Cevennes, to the fine sands of the Mediterranean, and the Camargue with it's pink flamingos, black bulls and white horses; without forgetting the famous Pont du Gard, the Gard offers a wide range of breathtaking sites and a varied and beautiful choice of heritage.
Lush green forests, areas of wild garrigue and beautiful coastline have made this area, witness to 2,000 years of history and one of the main birthplaces of Roman civilisation, a stunning mosaic of the warm and dazzling sunlight of the Midi.
