Personally, I think the beach (Kaanapali) is one of the best in the world. There is a reef just off the beach offering amazing snorkeling and scuba opportunities. If you are not scuba certified, I highly recommend the introductory dive offered at the property.
This is just a phenomenal place for R&R... although if you are into it there is all Maui has to offer (Hana, Haleakala, etc.).
There is a free shuttle available to nearby Whaler's Village. Public transportation is available to Lahaina. If you're interested in more travel, there are escorted tours which can be arranged at the property, or you can rent a car.
When flying in, consider using the nearby Kapalua airport (airport code for booking: JHM).
