Location:
West of Asheville in the community of Newfound (off Newfound Rd.) in the township of Leicester. The drive to this property from I-40 gives you a breathtaking overview of this valley and quaint farming community by way of the descent down Newfound Mountain. Creating one of the most amazing photo taking opportunities that can only be matched by the Blue Ridge Parkway (NO, I'm not exaggerating)! Leicester is one of the biggest areas among only a handful directly connected to Asheville - it's not developed as the surrounding areas are. We're the only area that has a road named after itself connected to Patton Ave., which runs through the middle of Asheville. Once you're on Patton Ave., you can get to any area attraction within 5-15 minutes!
What To Do!?:
Newfound Farmhouse itself offers a 4 person hot tub, DVD player with a few DVD movies, board games, children's toys/books, satellite TV (DirecTV - WHICH ALSO OFFERS MUSIC!), magazines and yes on-site hiking. Asheville's downtown - only a 20 minute drive - is packed with things to do (some seasonal festivals are held downtown such as Bele Chere) and see, such as historical landmarks, life-size outdoor art and art galleries - offering anything imaginable by way of local and area artists. Several "studio tours" in the RIVER ARTS DISTRICT - on a road to the right before entering downtown - are offered twice a year ("studio tours" also offered once a year in our very own Leicester!). Restaurants downtown offer everything from Thai, Indian, Mexican, vegetarian, mediteranean-American and good old southern (and some downtown eating establishments offer an outdoor cafe or "al fresco" dining in warm weather, some offer live music as well). travel outside the Asheville area - Weaverville, Black Mountain, Arden and Waynesville - to find white-water rafting and tubing, hot air ballooning, horse back riding and even more amazing restaurants and landmarks. There is, however, one rafting company on Amboy Rd. (25 minute drive), the only rafting company within Asheville. Take your pick of what you want to discover and what you'd like your taste buds to savoir. Asheville truly has something for everyone!
Closing comment:
When you come to stay at Newfound Farmhouse you are staying in a piece of history, for not just the property is old, but the house is a grand old victorian lady approaching her 100th year. She will give you memories that no other place can bestow. Best of all it's all one floor living, as the upstairs is now closed off attic space. This 136 acre "bottom land" mountain property, originally farmed with dairy cattle, is wide open to a huge front hay field perfect for weddings, receptions and catered family reunion BBQs (** SEE NOTE ABOVE **). We loved having the "view with character" from the front deck as I have come to think of it. You see more than just tree tops, there are trees on mountains, distant hay fields and pastures with grazing sheep that dot the landscape. It is one of the more interesting views I have ever seen. The change in season is more than just a difference in climate, it is also a change in the look and feel of this entire valley where this old farmstead is located, so it's always offering something new. I loved this old house and still think of it as part of our family. We are glad to share it with you so you can take home the kind of memories that can only be made on a farm in the mountains.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
My husband and I manage the renting of the house, but lived in it for 10 yrs. and so are very fond of the house for the memories we made there. My son spent the first 2 yrs. of his life there. My parents, who own the 110 acre mountainside, purchased the original 136 acres with the intent of some day living here, but life and circumstances being what they are, they felt renting the house would be a wonderful alternative so others could enjoy what they held onto for so long. My family all know this area, being undeveloped true countryside, is what most everyone would like to retire to. But now you can stay in the area and enjoy it for your family vacations and get a taste of what true country living would be like!
Why the Owner Chose Asheville
My parents have owned this 136 acre farm for more than 30 yrs. now. My husband and I lived in the house for 10 yrs. until we built another house once our son cam along. We now manage the renting of the house and so we know it and the area very well. We still live on another part of the 136 acres, but with that much wooded mountain property you can't see us, but we're here to help with what we can. We still think of the house as part of the family and so we're glad to share this almost 100 yr. old house with you. It has lots of character, a view to die for and its country location can't be beat when you're only 15 minutes to the middle of Asheville.
The Unique Benefits of this Farmhouse
The first most unique benefit of this area is it offering what we beleive most of our guests are looking for when they come to visit Asheville - the undeveloped countryside. The other unique benefit guests will enjoy while staying here is the character laiden pastorial view. I've traveled extensively here and abroad and it's unlike any other I've seen. The farming community character of this area is why I've chosen to live the rest of my life here - God willing.
