Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2005
I'm a realtor, and found this property while looking for one for a client. He didn't buy it so I did. It needed rescuing at the time. My husband and I gutted the property and rebuilt it from the inside out. It took a year and a half of Saturdays! But the effort was worth it. I love to rescue things, whether it is a piece of furniture or a house! I like to uncover what others have covered up!
Why the Owner Chose Brooksville
Hernando county is so pieceful. They don't call it the Nature Coast for nothing! It has 1/10 of the population of Pinellas county, (where I live) so it is nice to "get away from it all!" The river varies quite a bit and when we bought it, we had 4 tropical storms that year! It was probably in a flood stage but it was so wide and beautiful! It's probably a good thing I didn't know any of that or I might have been scared off! I'm so glad we bought it!
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
Sitting on the dock, enjoying the quiet and the birds! The bike trail is what brings most of the folks to my place, but I would rather kayak! My goal is to ride the whole trail! If my guest can do it, I should be able to do it!

We spent a week at the Dragonfly and had a great time. The long Rails-to-Trails bike trail is just a few blocks away and you can ride to it. The trail is absolutely wonderful. We biked two other trails in the area as well, although those we had to drive to. The cottage itself is a unique place, beautifully situated on a river right there in the backyard. An additional feature is a resident group of Muscovy ducks that love being fed. The whole place is quiet and relaxing. There's a very nice sandwich shop nearby and I highly recommend their chili. Although there's no internet access, all the nearby public libraries have both public computers and WiFi. The WiFi is available in their parking lots 24 hours a day, so you can just bring your laptop or netbook with you to check your email. All in all, we highly recommend the Dragonfly cottage.

We recently spent a week at the Dragonfly Cottage. We highly recommend this wonderful little cottage. We found it to be comfortable, cozy, and most importantly very, very clean. We found the Dragonfly Cottage both peaceful and relaxing, it was everything we hoped it would be and definitely lived up to our expectations as advertised. We enjoy biking and there is a 46 mile paved bike path within 1/4 mile of the cottage. We would not hesitate to send family or friends to this unique little cottage.

Richie & I spent the month of March at the Dragonfly Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed it. The cottage itself is very uniquely decorated and very comfortable. It was very close to our friends and relatives that we came to visit. The weather could have been warmer but we managed to find plenty of "indoor" activities to enjoy. We would highly recommend this rental to anyone looking. The owners of the next door antique/ice cream shop are special people, very friendly and helpful. Thanks for sharing your wonderful cottage with us Diane. Richie & Judy from Wisconsin

My wife and I stayed in the “Dragonfly” for one week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is cozy, well equipped and very convenient to many outdoor activities. The nearby 46 mile bike trail is easily accessible from the cottage. The view from the back yard is very relaxing and quite beautiful. Diane was very helpful with all the little details that made our stay even more convenient and relaxing. She returned our deposit quickly and we would not hesitate to stay again or to recommend it to friends and family.

What a charming and serene place to stay. All the comforts of home and a beautiful grass roots Florida setting too. Enjoyed every moment of my visit to Dragon Fly River Cottage. Bike trail was awesome and Kayaking was so much fun. Dade City near by, has a collection of antique shops and a really cute and refreshing tea room. Hope to come again next year. Thanks for all the special touches in the cottage.

My daughter and I stayed in the cottage for a week in mid-March. It was great. So quiet and peaceful yet close to shopping and restaurants also. Many places to see within a reasonable distance. Only about an hour from Tampa Airport. Did a lot of sightseeing during the day and my daughter enjoyed kyaking in the evenings.

My husband and I stayed at the Cottage for almost five weeks. It was one of the best vacations ever. So much to do if you like day trips, or do nothing if you wish except enjoy nature, go canoeing or walk the nearby Rails to Trails. There are many interesting places to go that are under one and one-halp hours. Tarpon Springs, Clearwater Beach, Hudson Beach, the Market of Marion (big flea market) in Belleview and the list could go on. We would give this Cottage our highest recommendation and hope to return again next year.

What a great place to stay. We had a blast! The cottage is right on the river so the setting is beautiful. It's fully stocked with cooking supplies & all the creature comforts including a full library of video tapes. We explored the surrounding small towns by car, although the Rails to Trails bike/running/walking trail is just down the street. You've got to check out the old-time Rexall Drug store in Inverness just up the road. You can easily spend a few hours there. I highly recommend spending a week or weekend at the Dragonfly.
