We rented for three nights in late December and would recommend this house. It's midway between Washburn and Bayfield about a mile west of Highway 13. The house was clean, comfortable and very homey. We were impressed with how well equipped the house was with WiFi, satellite TV, many CDs, well stocked kitchen, etc. The layout is unusual with the kitchen downstairs in the walk out basement and several sitting areas, but it adds to the character. The weather was fairly cold during our visit (between 10 below and 10 above at night), which made the sauna a very nice feature. On the downside, the sleeping loft in the studio (two beds) was really too cold to sleep in. And we needed to make frequent trips up and down the stairs to feed the wood stove in the basement. Also, note that none of the sleeping areas have much privacy. For winter activities, we'd recommend cross country skiing and hiking in the woods. The ski hill nearby is very affordable and kid friendly. A nice small town feeling there. For dining, our favorite was Maggie's in Bayfield. Great fish and a fun party atmosphere. One block south of the main street.

It took a bit of time to get used to the layout of this lovely, personable home. We enjoyed the location, the well-equipped kitchen, the grill, the suana, the views, the care that the owners. Very relaxing for two city dwellers. We plan to return.

It took us a bit of time to get used to the layout of this unique and personal home. And then we loved it! During our week there, it was very hot/humid (unusual for July), so we just lazed around; it was great. When it cleared up, we loved the house as a home base. The views, the location, the grill, the sauna, the privacy, the well-equipped kitchen--all plusses. The owners take excelllent care of their property. We plan to return.

I have been here twice, once with my fiancee and once with another couple. I love, love, love this house! From the beautiful, original art on the walls to the open concept studio and loft full of windows and light. The warm wood floors and comfy furniture make the studio the perfect place to cuddle up and read one of the many books from the bookshelf that takes up an entire wall. The downstairs kitchen includes a dining area and seating area in front of a fireplace; the perfect area to gather with friends and play boardgames and enjoy cocktails. From that seating area you can go out to a screen porch and, if the weather is warm, enjoy conversation and relaxation under the twinkly lights strung up around the porch. I love to cook and enjoyed a fully stocked with all the untensils, pots and pans I needed to cook a big meal--which I did. (Even the knives were sharp. . .very important :) ) Everything you need is all here--just bring food, drinks and clothes--the closets were FULL of towels and extra blankets. This is one place where I don't have to worry about packing every little thing--love that. This is a very warm, inviting place close to all the fun and charm that Bayfield has to offer. Perfect for a couple's get-away! The best thing about it is, even though it's a rented, it feels like a home--a secret hideaway that's all yours for as long as you choose to stay. We look forward to coming back soon! P.S. Did I mention the view from the deck? Picture a forground full of lush greenery with Lake Superior twinkling just beyond, perfectly centered between a break in the trees. Ah, beautiful!

My family really enjoyed our stay. The house was far enough away from everything to give us privacy, but close enough that it was easy to drive and do some sightseeing, swimming, kayaking and shopping. It is a charming and interesting home. Very clean, with everything you need for your stay.

                          Year Purchased: 1980

About the owner: Richard Dillon, a retired ad agency exec, now turned artist. Dillon graduated the U of M in both Studio Art and Business. Since retirement he has devoted his time to painting and sculpture. He and his Partner travel extensively and many of the paintings in the Country Home depict that. When not traveling he splits his time between Bayfield and St. Paul where he lives with his Partner.

                          Why the Owner Chose Bayfield:
We had owned a condo at Port Superior prior, and although we loved it, it was not private and quiet. Also temperature can shift quickly from warm to very cool on the water. We sought acreage with a view that would elevate us from most temperature change and offer quiet and privacy. We found that on McCulloch Rd, Bayview.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Wake while lying in bed, then turn east and view from the window, the sun rise over the lake and Madeline Island. During the day an 180 Degree view of lake weather, surrounded by nature with great short and long views.
