Keywords: Apartment
This bright, elegant Georgian (1760's) apartment is your perfect pied-a-terre in Central London. Situated in Handel St. a quiet, tree lined side street just off Brunswick Sq. in the heart of Bloomsbury, the flat is barely five minutes walk from Russell Square tube (Piccadilly line) or the red double decker buses on Woburn Place/Southampton Row. A pleasant ten minute walk though Russell Sq Gardens and you're at the British Museum and UCL Campus or walk North to Euston Rd for the British Library and St Pancras (Eurostar). To the South (two tube stops) or 20 minutes walk, takes you to Covent Garden, Shaftesbury Ave and the West End theatres.
The whole building was completely refurbished in 2005 and this first floor flat (US second floor) is a charming place to return to after a busy day of sight seeing or shopping. Retaining the original marble fireplace and cream painted shutters, the high ceilings and long Georgian windows give a feeling of space and light whilst modern, quality furniture ensures your comfort.
Both the queen-size bed and the sofa bed have deep mattresses, the comfortable chairs are of cream leather, the kitchen area is fully equipped and the pull-out dining table easily seats four. The bathroom has shower/bath, basin, toilet and heated towel rail and the separate utility/laundry room on the landing has a sink, washer and dryer, iron/board and room to store luggage.
The Brunswick Centre, Bloomsburys new High St. is moments away and affords great grocery shopping at gourmet supermarket Waitrose, two Chemists, a Starbucks, the artsy Renoir Cinema and a selection of interesting restaurants and a small Farmers Market on Weds and Sats.
Travel to the flat is excellent with Heathrow just an hour away, straight through on the Piccadilly line. The Eurostar train to Paris/Brussels is 10 minutes walk or one tube stop, similarly to Euston Station. With Liverpool St.(Stanstead) or Victoria (Gatwick) a short cab ride away, this delightful home away from home has the advantage of being in a most central location and yet enjoying a very quiet and peaceful neighbourhood setting.
A recent visitor from VA says...'we LOVED the flat. The location was superb, we fell in love with Waitrose and enjoyed walking in the gardens nearby. The light was wonderful and the history of the house fascinating, we had never seen windows with shutters like that! You had thought of everything - the advantage of you the owners living here part of the time is that it is so well equipped and comfortable. We definitely want to come again.

Georgian Elegance in the Heart of Bloomsbury
Year Purchased: 2006
Why the Owner Chose Camden
We wanted a flat that was as central as we could afford, with easy access by tube and by foot to theaters, museums and with local shopping. We stayed at the Russell Sq Hotel for a few nights to attend a family wedding and realized the area answered all these criteria. Quite by chance we found the property in nearby Handel St.It was in the process of being refurbished and the flats just coming on the market. It didn't take long to decide that we wanted to buy. The building itself is lovely, 1760's Georgian with long windows looking out onto a quiet side St. and an easy walk to the British Museum and moments from nearby shopping.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
The flat is amazingly convenient for all the urban delights offered by being in such a central situation. The nearby Brunswick Centre re-opened recently with it's fun shops and restaurants and The British Museum is a 10 minute stroll across Russell Sq. But the extra bonus is the Eurostar Terminal at St. Pancras. In ten minutes or so you can wheel your bag up to the check in, hop on the early morning train and 2 hours later enjoy a mid morning coffee and croissant in Paris or Brussels!
The Piccadilly line takes you directly from Heathrow to Russell Square tube station where it is five minute walk to the flat.
St Pancras International is the terminus for the EuroStar. With just a ten minute walk north, you can be in Paris or Brussels for lunch and home for dinner!
Need a quick read of the Magna Carta? Maybe Beowulf or a Gutenberg Bible? It's all here.
Just two tube stops away is the heart of the London theatre district.
Owner's Map of Camden
Judith and Ed live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Judith is a Brit who lived and worked for many years in London before meeting Ed in Rome one sunny morning in June 1994! They were married in London 1995 and she moved permanently to the USA. However...her family, children and grandchildren all live in London, with eldest daughter and family in Brussels. Having their own base in central London was something they wanted to have when Ed retired and now they are able to spend about three months every year in their own lovely little pied-a-terre on Handel St.

In a quiet residential area, minutes away from nice shopping center and tube station (Piccadilly line). The property was faithfully described and the owner was very cooperative. The British Museum is within easy walking distance, other atractions require transportation (tube , bus, other).
Recommended for:Families with young children, age 55+, tourists without a car.

My husband and I had such an amazingly lovely experience in London for our honeymoon, and staying at this flat made all the difference. Every aspect of the VRBO was pleasant - from booking, to arriving, to then having it as our landing pad while we ventured around the city. It was clean, comfortable, and so much more convenient than any hotel - we walked or took public transportation to every neighborhood/attraction we wanted to explore. Working with Judith and Antonia was also a joy! Absolutely no complaints. We would wholeheartedly recommend this flat to any friend or family member traveling to London and I'd be surprised if we ourselves ever stay at a hotel in future. Thank you, Judith and Antonia, for a wonderful experience in a great city!
Owner response:Thanks so much Annie for your kind comments...and so glad you had a fun honeymoon in our little flat in Bloomsbury!

Ideally situated on a quiet street in Bloomsbury, this flat is an attractive pied-a-terre for short-term residents in London. It is immediately clear upon arrival that the owners know what travellers require: a telephone, wi-fi, microwave, washer, dryer, dishwasher, nicely equipped kitchen, radio and TV, and umbrellas. Of course, basics such as towels and linen are also supplied and, perhaps best of all, a mini travel library of at least 50 London maps, pamphlets, and guidebooks. Two "in-house" books also provided helpful information, so have a look at these: the handbook put together by the owners, and the Guestbook in which you will find recommendations by previous visitors. It was a delight for us to be able to plan our day tranquilly, listening to BBC radio, and plotting our various walks and sights, without having to rush off to a hotel dining room for breakfast or worry about the housekeeping staff barging in on us at an inopportune time. We walked everywhere, making only occasional use of the buses and underground trains which pass conveniently nearby. And, at night, we visited various excellent neighbourhood pubs and restaurants without any worries about personal security. Thanks to the quiet location we slept well each night. We also appreciated dealing with the owners who responded promptly to all our queries and who refunded our deposit within two weeks of our departure. Antonia, who met us when we arrived at the flat, was full of helpful information and good recommendatinos for nearby restaurants. As there is still much for us to see and do in Bloomsbury and beyond, we hope to return again to this excellent flat. We have already recommended it to three other couples.
Owner response:Thank you so much Patricia for your kind comments. So glad you enjoyed London and appreciated our flat. Hope you'll come back soon!Judith

Great location with young kids

We travelled with our two kids (7 and 10). They slept comfortably on the pullout couch. The flat is located close enough to all types of rail and it was a great base location for touring. Even late at night after an all-day trip to Paris the little one was able to walk home with little-to-no whining. The proximity to groceries is a huge plus and there are dozens of options for food within a quick walk. Having the ability to do wash, and thus pack lighter was a huge bonus. The kids loved playing in Coram Fields just around the corner. The flat is a great option for families. We found by the end of our trip that the bus was often faster than the underground, especially to Waterloo for day trips by rail. Well located for several major bus lines. We loved the ambiance of the old building and would love to come back another time. The rental process was seamless and worked well. Our first homestay and certainly not our last!

Very quiet and nice neighbourhood. The bedroom faces the back yard. Three min walk to perfect grocery store with ready-made meals and 5 min to the underground. Ten min walk to British Museum which should be enjoyed in small daily portions. Well equipped in all respects but the kitchen is due for a thorough cleaning beyond "beween rentals". Excellent communication with the owners with tips and ideas on what what going on in London at the time we were there. Lots of up-to-date material in the apartment on London that was of benefit to us.

This flat is located in a central, convenient, but quiet and green, part of Bloomsbury. Handel Street is tree-lined, quiet, and dead-ends into a charming park that is little used; but the British Museum is only a 5-minute walk, the West End and Soho 20 minutes, and the Russell Square Tube stop just 2 blocks away. A block away is a small shopping center with a Waitrose supermarket, drug store, restaurants, and almost everything you might need. The flat itself has a comfortable bedroom facing away from the street; and the living room looks onto Handel Street. Highly recommended!

Everything about the apartment was excellent. Easy to get to on the Piccadilly Line to and from Heathrow. This proximity to the Tube (Piccadilly Line) made getting around London a real breeze. E-mail communications with Judith, the owner, were timely and friendly. The apartment itself was a great size. On a nice, calm street just one block from a grocery store. My children loved sleeping on the sofa bed while my wife and I were comfortable in the bedroom overlooking the courtyard. The kitchen was well-equipped and access to the washer/dryer was very nice. Our favorite part of the apartment were the three large windows that looked out onto the street. The high ceilings and light from the windows gave a wonderfully open feel to the living room and kitchen. We were greeted at the apartment by Antonia and she made us feel right at home. Overall, a very pleasant experience. Thank you, Judith, for such a lovely place.
Owner response:Thank you, so nice to hear your enjoyed your visit to H St!

Dear Judith: Karen and I have enjoyed immensely our stay in your wonderful Handel Street flat. We appreciate, not only the perfect location and stylish décor, but all the “traveler friendly” touches: the guidebooks and maps, the electrical adapters, the comfortable bed, the wireless internet access, and the well-stocked kitchen. The nearby Brunswick Center with its shops and Waitrose Supermarket provided everything we needed for breakfast and dinner. I was delighted to find prepared food that made our vacation kitchen tasks quite manageable. And I must mention the easy access to St Pancras Station and the Eurostar trains to Paris. Only a ten minute walk away and all England and the Continent are within easy reach. I can’t imagine a nicer find for a London stay. We’ll be back soon. Karen and David Crommie San Francisco

This flat was in a perfect location. Close to the tube and the Brunswick shopping center with restaurants, Waitrose supermarket and even some clothes shopping. After huge sight seeing days in London (british museum very close) we were glad to return to the comy bed and non-european pillows- that were almost as good as our ones at home! We enjoyed our stay and will return again in the future. Overall fantastic flat and communication with owner (Judith) and Antonia who met us on a Sunday morning after our train arrived and was very helpful with her introduction to the flat. Thank-you!
Owner response:Thank you Linda for such a nice review. Lovely to have you and please come again!
