Acorn House is located approximately one hour north of San Francisco on scenic Highway 12 in Kenwood. It is a peaceful retreat into solitude: one cottage on four private acres beneath a night sky filled with stars. Your hosts, grape-growers Bev and Jerry Stemach, invite you to turn down their country lane, and indulge yourself in this charming vacation rental nestled among ancient oaks and grapevines in the heart of the Sonoma wine valley. Jerry and Bev invite you to share their knowledge of viticulture and "local secrets" over hors d' oeuvres in their private wine room.
Surround yourself with generously appointed comforts: shelves filled with books and movies, your favorite music on the stereo, a soak in a whirlpool bath or outdoor spa, television, wireless internet, a bottle of local wine, your own private deck and patio. If you are inclined to explore, a diverse array of exciting activities are minutes away: hiking in mountains or along coastal beaches, golfing on nearby courses, dining in restaurants in Kenwood, Glen Ellen, and Sonoma, and wine tasting through Sonoma County's 13 viticulture regions. Napa Valley is just over the hill.

I can't say enough good things about Acorn House and owners Bev & Jerry. They provided everything we needed and more for a wonderful stay, from the fresh homemade banana bread, to the robes, and the full music collection....They were extremely gracious and hosted us in their wine cellar and even provided marshmallows and roasting sticks for my 8 year old daughter to use at the firepit :) Even in December, this property is surrounded by stunning beauty - the grounds are gorgeous and the giant oak was magnificent to see through the perfect frame of the cottage's large windows. The hot tub is fantastic and has great views of the stars at night. We only wish we could have stayed longer!

Acorn House brings back some the most memorable moments from our honeymoon this summer. We rented Acorn House for 4 nights and had the most peaceful, relaxing, romantic time!! We spent our days sightseeing between vineyards in the local towns (Sonoma, Napa, Yountville, Kenwood, Glen Ellen), a trip to the coast to witness the most amazing sea and skyline, dinner out in the local restaurants and time in to hot tub and pool! Having spent a year planning our wedding our stay at Acorn House was exactly what we had dreamed of and more. Our hosts, Bev and Jerry, had everything planned and ready for us down to the very small details that made is so special. A bottle local wine and glasses for us to keep, the amazing homemade banana bread and the flipflops and bathrobes for the hot tube. Having returned to the UK we still recall very fond memories of Acorn House and day dream about our return!! We would both highly reccommend Acorn House, its what memories where made for :-)

My mother and I stayed here in 2007 and were overly pleased with the accommodations! The house was cozy and well kept; ample space for the two of us and still would have been plenty of room even with the two additional guests that were originally going to be a part of our stay. The house was filled with local reading, the fridge offered a few delicious surprises, and the windows to the outside created perfectly framed vistas! The hosts provided the most welcoming experience we have ever had, and treated us so kindly. They even provided us with a private wine tasting! And though we were sharing part of their property, they certainly left us our space. Convenient location to wineries, and not far from towns or attractions. This is a most beautiful part of the country for those who've never been, and Acorn House is a great way to see it! I recommend 100%!

I work for Apple computers and we had a meeting in San Francisco last weekend. I was looking for a different place to stay for a few days( NO HOTELS!!) and I came across Acorn House. What a great little cottage that is and perfect for touring Sonoma or Napa. Your located right around some great wineries and eateries. Bev and Jerry are great host and you must enjoy some wine with them in their wine cellar. Great place, great weekend and I will be back!!

Ditto to all of the other reviews. We had a perfect 4 days at Acorn House. The owners are wonderful and have thought of everything -- flip flops and robes for the hot tub, travel mugs for your coffee, insulated bag for picnicking, and a library of books, CDs, and DVDs. The breakfast items and staples provided in the kitchen were perfect. The property is so comfortable, quiet and relaxing. We found ourselves wanting to return earlier in the evening just to spend some extra time in the house & hot tub. We can't wait to go back!

My husband and I spent 3 nights in this super-clean and well-appointed house. Our hosts, Bev and Jerry, have thought of every detail to make us feel comfortable and cared for. The location is SO close to wineries and restaurants, but when you pass through the gate to this lovely property you feel totally secluded. Kitchen is well-stocked; provisions included homemade banana bread, Eng. muffins, fresh fruit, cereal, coffee, juice, milk, etc., even a bottle of wine! Enjoyed the hot tub, the fire "pit", and the privacy. It is also handicapped-friendly for those who need it. Bev and Jerry make you feel like old friends. We would definitely stay here again!

We had such a wonderful stay at the Acorn House. Bev and Jerry go out of their way to make you feel like part of the family, but still providing lots of privacy. Bev and Jerry guided us through town with their knowledge of the area and had some wonderful dinners and wine tours at the local wineries. We would recommend the Acorn House whenever you are visiting Northern California, it is very close to the Russian River Valley and only 1 1/2 hours from San Francisco or Oakland. You will not be dissapointed!

My husband and I spent the most perfect weekend at the Acorn House. 2 days was not nearly enough time to enjoy this spectacular getaway. The grounds are stunning, and have everything you could possibly need...a hot tub, adorable patio, vineyards, wine room, and the biggest, most beautiful 500 year old Oak Tree you will ever see watching over everything. The house itself is better then any hotel, completely stocked with cds, lots of great books, bathtub with jets, full kitchen, tons of wine country info, and they even fill the kitchen with breakfast foods, coffee, wine, etc. And on top of all of that, the owners Bev and Jerry are the most friendly and gracious hosts. Upon arrival they invited us into their wine cellar for some delicious appetizers and wine from the region. They are such a pleasure!!! Their house is close by, but the Acorn house is so private, you'll barely notice their presence. I can not say enough about this perfect hidden jewel. This is the real wine country experience.

We have never been any place where so much attention was paid to the details, large and small, that make a stay interesting, comfortable and memorable. Bev was on her own while her husband was fishing, but she did her utmost to make us feel welcome while not being in the least bit intrusive. She was a wealth of information about the area - wine tastings, day trips, etc. - and a most gracious hostess who opened up her wine collection to share some favored labels and friendly conversation. The cottage was filled with books and music and movies and had a computer with wifi, a TV with DVD and a CD player. Outside we had deer and foxes and a quail family on one hand and on the other large bushes of blackberries and blueberries to munch on and row upon row of grapevines to wander in. Our 16 year old slept in the loft. While too low to stand in, it provided a welcome sanctuary where he could log on, tune in or simply relax. We have already recommended this place to family and friends and would enthusiastically do so to readers of these reviews.
