First of all I would like to thank Dennis for a wonderful time at his perfect getaway. The cabin was well stocked and very clean inside and out. He had wood cut for the inside fireplace along with wood for the outdoor firepit which made it easy to get cozy by the fire. Although this cabin is a 3 bedroom 2 bath good size for any family it was perfect for us on our 5th anniversary. Sitting in the hot tub at night and watching the stars or sitting down on the deck feeding the fish it was so peaceful and quite the perfect place to get away and relax. There are towns close by with antique stores if you like these items also it is about an hours drive to Knoxville where there is a varity of stores and restaurants. We truly enjoyed ourselves and would consider another visit to this wonderful cabin in the woods. We didn't fish the pond but there are some pretty big catfish and bass in there. Thank you again Dennis for a great time.
Owner response:Thank you so much Doug. It was a pleasure having you and your wife for nine days... makes me kinda jealous writing that. You were as wonderful guests and I enjoyed our talks and appreciate how you took such good care of my cabin. Please come back.

My family of five stayed at the Tom T. Hall Cabin over spring break a couple of weeks ago. We spent five nights there and we felt like we were in paradise! The property was even better than described on the website! The cabin was so clean and well maintained, with an unbelievable amount of amenities. The size and layout could not have been more suitable for us, and it is situated in the most gorgeous setting! The beautiful lake right outside the back door provided us with hours of relaxation, whether we were canoeing around, fishing, or just basking in the sun on the deck overlooking the water. The kids had a blast jumping into the lake via the rope swing! My husband and I loved how secluded the cabin is and, while there are numerous activities and attractions nearby, we were content to stay right there. We particularly enjoyed some of the many hiking trails that are so close in proximity we didn't have to drive to any trail heads. We just packed our gear and walked out the door! What a treat it was to end our days in the wonderful hot tub on the deck! We brought our own food to cook, and there was no reason to go into town for anything as the kitchen, and the cabin in general, is extremely well stocked. While this might not necessarily be appealing to everyone, I am currently learning music for a show so I was especially excited to discover the piano in the living room! There is an assortment of books, Satellite TV and a DVD player if you're interested, but we had the best time playing games every night! It really is the perfect place for family and friends to spend quality time together! I would highly recommend this terrific vacation home to everyone! We are already trying to plan our next trip and cannot wait to get back there as it truly is a little piece of heaven!
Owner response:Thank you so much Kathy. I want everyone to know that even though she's from a "popular" town in her state she has very close ties to another "significant" town... down a little and way to the right (if you are looking at a map).

This is the second time we have stayed at Tom T Hall and it is by far the best vacation getaway possible. Dennis makes sure everything is just right for you. It is the perfect place to get a way from the rest of the world and just relax and let your body renew itself. We used the traeger grill numerous times, we even made cookies on it. They were so yummy! The pork tenderloin we smoked was superb! Try a turkey....can't beat it. So bring your favorite book, fishing poles, hiking boots, whittling knife, whatever you like and ENJOY!
Owner response:Freddie and Karen are great guests and sometimes good at fishing... Thanks so much for the photo of the Bass your son caught and the kinds words. The Traeger Grill has been a real highlight for everyone the past month.

My husband and I just got back from a 4 night stay at the Tom T Hall Cabin. Dennis is right you will not want to leave. The cabin was Perfect. It was so clean and very spacious. The cabin was well stocked with everything that you could possible want. We enjoyed our morning and evening down by the lake. We also enjoyed the hot tub. I enjoyed feeding the fish as well as catching them. We left the window open and it was so nice to hear the birds and the wind blowing through the trees, and when it rained it was so relaxing to hear. We are looking forward to coming back real soon.
Owner response:Great to have you all for your post-Birthday get away. Cicadas have somehow avoided a Tom T. Hall Cabin Vacation so far!!

We are so lucky to have found the Tom T Hall cabin and the owner Dennis. Words cannot express how relaxed you are here. I could sit for hours on the dock watching my dog swim happily around the pond with my husband. So tranquil and wonderful. The cabin has the everything one could desire and a fabulous stocked kitchen with the spices you would need to prepare your meals. The area is wonderful and Big South Fork cannot be beat. If you like traffic and noise this is not the place for you. This is about letting your hair down, oh yea and maybe catching a fish or two! Paula and Troy Knoxville, TN
Owner response:A wonderful perk of renting your vacation home is making new friends. Paula and Troy are a true treasure for me and I am honored that they care about my property the way they do. Stay tuned for a new song folks!!!

When I began my random fantasy for a perfect getaway weekend, I imagined the following components: • remote location, untouched by giant malls and familiar commerce at every corner • cabin by the lake • eggs, bacon, steak, coffee, etc., inside said cabin, ensconced by woods and water The Tom T. Hall cabin experience nailed it, on every count. But I'm sure there are other reviews that say as much. Instead I wanna take a second to talk about the OTHER aspect of this experience that made it so good: the owner, Dennis. First of all, if part of the purpose of a trip like ours (five college buddies, a depressing 12 years since graduation) is to relax, it doesn't help if your landlord is exceedingly untrusting, uptight, and full of do's and don'ts. Dennis was the exact opposite. His love for the cabin and genuine interest in his guests' experience was evident from the first interaction. And silly though it may sound, it affected the overall experience tremendously. A real joy. He called to check in on us, gave us up-to-date suggestions for restaurants, things to do, etc. I can't remember the last time that happened, ever (and I've been on plenty getaway weekends). The town of Oneida is... not... bustling. The crew I was with came in from Los Angeles, Chicago, Tokyo, and Washington, DC... i.e., we're all used to certain amenities. Those looking for things to do, bars to hang out in, restaurants aplenty to choose from, etc... may be in for a surprise. Luckily, we were not desperate for any of those things. Oneida's simplicity hit the spot. As cooking enthusiasts, we made ourselves at home and cooked up a storm and have the waistbands to prove it. For a remote cabin getaway experience, I'm not sure it gets much better than this. What's more, we stayed inside the cabin virtually the entire time, so we didn't even really explore the activities that WERE available (perhaps more activities would have been available in the summer rather than the winter). The point is, it says something about the cabin that we didn't get bored once over a long three-day weekend. Amazing and accommodating owner. Lovely home. Incredible woods. Extreme remoteness. Fantastic all around escape. We will be back for sure to try our hand at a different season, perhaps with fishing rods in tow. Thanks again, Dennis, for a great experience and a nice reminder that being passionate about something can be contagious.
Owner response:Wow! What incredibly kind words. These guys were a delight to have as guests and took very good care of my cabin. It wasn't mentioned that they sang together in college so the piano was something that attracted them as well. Thank you so much for such generous words.

My husband i very much enjoyed our trip. We had an amazing time hiking, fishing, on the scenic railway, watching the sun rise and set in the hot tub, and my personal favorite was roasting marshmallows by the fire. The cabin was incredible and i hope to visit again!!!...very soon!!!
Owner response:It is a pleasure to know that many honeymoons have taken place at the my cabin. It is a very romantic and peaceful place. This smart bride to be booked a year in advance and listed it as one of her wedding presents so it could be paid for as gifts. Great idea!!!!

I've now visited Tom T. Hall Cabin probably close to a dozen times over the past five years, and can unequivocally say it's awesome and I cannot wait to return! It's comfortable, clean and conveniently located for access to the park. I was especially grateful for that on my most recent visit, when we hiked every day along the Pilot/Wines trail. Heading north and east from the cabin, Pilot Rock is probably two or three miles away and it's spectacular. But we also enjoyed the view of the gorge from the Bronco Overlook. We never had to get in our cars to see some of the park's most stunning views. The beds are comfy; the hot tub is pristine. Everything about Tom T. Hall is conducive to good times and relaxation. Thank you, Dennis Sheffiled, for your gracious hospitality. You thought of every detail.
Owner response:Thank you so much Jane, It's always wonderful to host your family but I am so pleased you were able to come with your girlfriends for a girls only get-a-way from it all.

The owner of this beautiful home away from home, is most concerned that everyones stay is off the chart. You can see this in his excellent communications skills, quality of comfortable beds and bedding and a squeaky clean cabin. I rent 4-5 cabins a year and this one has been the most complete for us. There are no other cabins in sight, no other sounds to be heard other than what nature wants you to hear. You and your group will simply love that cabin, any time of year.

Our family met at the Tom T. Hall for our annual vacation together. We had a marvelous time. There was plenty of room for everyone; it was great to be able to sit down at one table for meals. The kitchen was one of the best equipped kitchens we've come across. The kids loved the pond, especially the rope swing. We hiked, cooked many of our meals outside, went white water rafting, eating s'mores by the firepit, and pitching horseshoes. Just sitting on the porch in the swing and rockers was so relaxing! Our dogs enjoyed being able to go about the property without the confines of a leash. We would definitely recommend this cabin for others, especially with a large group.
Owner response:It was a pleasure getting to know these folks. Cynthia lives just 30 miles north of where I grew up in the Florida Panhandle so we would have fun talking about old times and the good people from LA. (Lower Alabama). I really don't have renters, I have friends that stay at my cabin... and they tip well.

Dennis, my wife, brother and his wife just got back yesterday after spending the week of Aug 16-23 at your Tom T. Hall cabin. We loved it so much. The peace and quiet was great and it was so relaxing sitting on the porch looking at the pond in the morning with a cup of coffee. The day was filled with some away activities but three or four days we just sat around the cabin and pond fishing and relaxing in the hot tub. The cabin is the best stocked rental property I have ever rented and included everything except a personal masseuse (sp?). Alco the cabin was decorated in the neatest way and we loved it. When we left Saturday, it was like leaving family as we were sad to leave. If I hit the lotto, may stay several months next time. Don & Sandy Meece

Hi Dennis,I just wanted to let you know how much we are enjoying your cabin this week. It is wonderful here, I have not put on a bit of makeup or fixed my hair all week! My daughter caught the biggest fish so far, a bass, and it sure was tasty. The water is nice and warm on top and refreshing on the bottom, and every now and then we get a little nip from the fish.We used your smoker today to smoke a whole turkey and it was wonderful. I don’t think I have ever had such a relaxing vacation, and I have been to SEVERAL places from the Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas to the beaches of Costa Rica, Florida and Northern California. We had a great time horseback riding at Southeast Pack Trips. I did not realize they took only cash or check, so I had no way to pay them. Would you believe they told me to just send them a check when I got home? Amazing! Our dogs really had a good time exploring all of the property, and swimming with us. We had an awesome time, I am already looking into booking for TWO weeks next year.Thank you,Sherry Huff

Dennis, We were at the cabin for the Memorial Day week this year. My wife had just graduated from nursing school and it was our friend's 51st Birthday. The water was great! The dogs loved it! We had fires each night inside and out (lots of weenie roasting and smores). It was kind of a family reunion with people from all over the country, many staying in nearby hotels. My 95-year-old grandmother especially enjoyed it. She's from Montana and it really reminded her of that. Six of us took a horseback ride with Southeast Pack trips and had a great time, but only two of us went on a canoe trip. That was really a highlight for me. They take you 5.9 miles up river and you take as long as you want to paddle back. We saw a mother and baby ducks, waterfall shallow rapids. It was wonderfully peaceful. By the way, we had two kids in our group, who we're happy to say, caught their first fish of their lives there at the cabin. I've produced a 20 minute video production using all the pictures and videos we took that week and set them to Tom T. Hall tunes. If anyone is going to the cabin in the future, I am sending a demo of that DVD up for guests to preview along with brochures and info for getting in touch with me. It's a great way to savor vacation memories and can be done from wherever you are in the country for as little as $100. Dennis, as I told you over the phone, it was a wonderful life experience. We think next time we might try it in the winter too. Thanks again, Bob Wagner

We reserved the cabin to have a family Thanksgiving in the mountains. Our family (4 Generations) came from Texas, Florida, Kentucky and Illinois for the week. We had a wonderful time and were blown away by the amenities and comfort of the cabin. No one wanted to go home. I drove 978 miles from Texas to stay and would do it again in a heartbeat. Dennis, You told me when we rented your lovely cabin that we would not want to leave. After our wonderful stay I must say that it was most certainly an understatement. We have never had such a great vacation and we have never stayed at such a beautiful place. The accomodations were superior to any cabin we have ever rented and more importantly the surroundings were spectacular. My kids loved throwing the fish food in the pond and then swimming with the fish! We swam, fished, and relaxed the entire time. My only regret was not reserving a week of this little piece of heaven a summer in advance. We will most certainly see you every summer from now on and thanks!

I don't think we've ever stayed in a rental place that provided EVERYTHING we needed, and we appreciate that all we had to bring was ourselves, food and liquid refreshment. Thanks also for the great Tom T. Dennis, I can see why folks treat your cabin like home...that's what it feels like. We had such a good trip. The drive isn't too bad, about 3 hours. John watched "no quilt" football, which he is never able to do at home. There is always something that needs to be done. I spent a lot of time reading on your porch swing. The quite was the best thing, I think. I'd hear a noise and think it was a good size animal, maybe a deer and it would be a squirrel! Sounds are amplified because there is no sound....only quiet...does that make sense? We also enjoyed sitting on the dock and fishing. What solitude! Anyway, it was a great time away. Thanks again. Thankyou so much! This is by far the finest cabin that we have ever stayed in. It was perfect. It is far more than is advertised, it is private, quiet, beautifully furnished, luxurious comfortable beds, all in all a home from home. Our three children loved the fishing, and we found so much to do in the area. Oneida has everything you need when you make that trip into town. We saw many deer and wild turkey and went on a train ride nearby and the mammoth caves not so far away. We really hope to come back. We reccomend it to everyone!

This was exactly what we have been searching for. A secluded cabin that allowed us to bring our little dog. We sat for hours on the dock of the pond and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and the color of the leaves. My husband cooked most of our meals in that wonderfully stocked kitchen. I’m a little hesitant to tell our friends about this treasure we have found. I want to make sure there’s a week available for us to visit this heavenly place next year.

Our recent stay at Tom T. Hall was truely an exceptional vacation. After many a hike at the Big South Fork area, our children refreshed themselves in the pond, and we all soothed our city muscles in the hot tub. Tom T. Hall cabin has you wanting for nothing. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, our week was a true treasure. We are looking forward to next years' return to Tom T. Hall and its proximty to the Big South Fork Area and all it has to offer. Highly recommend with Five stars!
