Fig Cakes Hill is a 1912, brown shingle house that has just been lovingly renovated as our weekend getaway. Just north of the village of Inverness, Fig Cakes sits on a hill, with a long sloping lawn down to Sir Francis Drake Road and Tomales Bay.
Downstairs is a living room with a huge stone fireplace and a dining room with a long table that seats 12. Both of these rooms have double sets of French doors, that open onto a porch overlooking the Bay. The new kitchen has been enlarged, so that now it is a perfect place to cook with friends. It is complete with place settings for 20 plus and plenty of high quality cookware, a Viking range, two Kitchen Aid dishwashers, and plenty of work space on its new concrete counter tops.
Also downstairs is one of the five bedrooms, with its own full bath, ideal for anyone who is not comfortable with the stairs. The downstairs is handicapped-accessible.
Upstairs are four additional bedrooms. Two have full baths and the other two have half baths and share a brand-new hallway shower room. Four of the five bedrooms have water views, two have king-size beds, three have queen size beds, and two of the bedrooms have private decks. In fact, there is a total of 6 decks at Fig Cakes, two of them large enough for groups to hang out and mingle. The master bath has a whirlpool tub/shower combination.
Within minutes, guests can be hiking, walking on the beach, shopping or looking at art galleries in Inverness or Point Reyes Station, visiting the Point Reyes National Seashore, or eating in one of the interesting restaurants in the area.

Beautiful Details and Very Relaxing

We had a family vacation for the weekend and had a wonderful time. We spent a lot of time out of the house sightseeing but could have spent the entire time looking out over the bay and breathing in the fresh air. There are a lot of special details--top of the line linens and furnishings, amazing kitchen and eclectic artwork. And the beds were very comfortable--just like home. The only negatives I could find were that cell reception was almost non-existent, which actually turned out to help with relaxing and unplugging. The plumbing was a little iffy--we heeded the instructions to be careful what is flushed into the septic system and didn't put anything in there that doesn't belong in a toilet but one of them got plugged anyway. And, there were a lot of left over bottles of shampoo and shower items in the hall shower. I would rather see that cleaned out and have fresh products or use my own. But, overall, a nice place to spend some time with family.

What a dreamy place. Really the perfect get-away for the adults among us who like a bit of privacy while sharing communal space with friends. Comfortable, beautiful and close to the water. I felt really lucky to have gotten to stay there.

We just returned from a weekend with friends at Fig Cakes Hill, where we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is simply stunning: the giant fireplace is awesome, the kitchen beyond functional - its really quite gourmet, bedrooms are elegant and private, the views are gorgeous, and the location is easy to find and so accessible. The decor is tastefully elegant and yet comfortable. This is not ordinary rental - you really feel as if you're in someone's home. We cannot wait to return!

With all the decks there is sun or shade whenever you want it. The large kitchen and dining room makes it perfect for old friends to savor food and laugh over old memories. Every bedroom is flooded with light and beautifully appointed. In short it's a joy to stay at Fig Cakes Hill!
