Casale dei Normanni is located high above the sea on a stunning and perfectly peaceful setting on the coast. A rural road brings you to this piece of paradise. The house is surrounded by typical Sicilian vegetation, including pine & palm trees and many flowers. It is situated on a cliff between Acireale and Praiola, and has a sweeping view over the sea, the beach and the coast of Taormina. A private path leads directly to the beach (50 meters). Although you are immersed in nature and silence, you are not isolated because there are some other holiday homes and cottages nearby.
The ground floor consists of a kitchen with dining table, a spacious living room with a table, sofas and couches, a bedroom with double bed and a single bed and an en-suite bathroom. On the upper floor is a huge bedroom with high ceiling, a double bed and a single bed, and a bathroom, another big bedroom with two single beds (possibility double bed). All rooms have sea view.
In the village Santa Tecla, a few kilometres from Praiola, is the renown fish restaurant “Da Lorenzo”. 2 km from the house is a big supermarket. Also nearby is Acireale, a baroque town, with several shops and squares. Taormina and Catania distance 25 km. Fresh fish can be bought in Pozzillo, a fishermen's village very near.

"My partner and I stayed in this beautiful, secluded, and spacious casa in the first week of October 2012. As we travelled down the little lane, flagged with lava paving stones towards the sea our anticipation grew. We were not to be disappointed. As we step from our rental car, parked under a vine we surveyed the house. Nestled privately among wonderfully diverse Mediterranean flora from olive and banana trees, to pines, the beauty of our immediate surroundings was matched only by the views beyond. To the North from where we had come was Mt Etna idly smoking and to the South East a raised view down to a beautiful beach and the crystal clear, azure blue Mediterranean beyond. The interior, while not modern, adding to its charm and unique quality was very spacious and the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen were all well appointed. A patio, ideal for evening barbecues and the balcony of the master bedroom both faced South East making the most of the sun from dawn until dusk. We were lucky enough to have a growing moon in the evenings to take the place of the sun glittering across the sea below us accompanied by the sound of cicadas in the trees. There were numerous places to relax around the house including a hammock under the pines, deck chairs on the patio, and a shaded area at the front of the house for riposo. The stony beach is a short walk down a little path to the South East below the casa. This is a quiet beach frequented by locals to swim, and sun bath. The water was crystalline clear with little if any current. Aquatic life was in abundance easily seen when snorkelling. The owners (a Sicilian family) who greeted us upon our arrival with coffee and local pastries could not have been more helpful and accommodating. They took the time to carefully show us firstly around the house and then took us on a brief tour of the local town Praiola and pointed out the best local pizzerias, fish shops, supermarkets, and vineyards all a short drive from the house. We will most definitely be returning to Sicily and if we come back to this area I have no doubts where I will be staying again."Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
