Location: Fornalutx, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain, Europe (10 minutes from Soller, 15min to beach, 30min to Palma)
Accommodations: House, 4 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 3 Baths (Sleeps 8)
Keywords: House
GENERAL
This gated home is nestled in the 11th century village of Fornalutx, just minutes from Soller and the beach town of Puerto de Soller. The home has been lovingly converted from an historic olive mill. Antique ceramic tiles accent the bathroom and kitchen walls, and all metal work including, gates, door fixtures, lamps, etc. have been hand-crafted by the town blacksmith - once the mayor of the town, and now our caretaker. Once you enter the gate, you are welcomed by cascading bougainvilleas, climbing roses, lavender, orange trees, and rosemary, and the soothing flow of the creek nearby. There are 5 parking spots - 4 cars can fit within the gates, and one just off the street.
INTERIOR
The home has 4 bedrooms, 3 newly remodeled/updated baths and a newly remodeled/updated kitchen. The eat-in kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, gas and electric stove and oven, and of course, a refrigerator. The living/dining room serve as the center of the home and has an open fireplace, elevated ceiling and opens onto the terrace, pool and garden. The view from the living room and terrace is vast with roof tops, bougainvilleas, majestic mountains and the magnificent valley below.
GARDEN
The pool is flanked by climbing roses, bougainvilleas, hibiscus plants and the orange grove. Sitting by the pool is one of the world’s greatest treats, with the gentle flow of the creek; the distant sound of the goats’ bells as they climb the hills; the lingering scent of jasmine and orange blossoms; and spectacular view. Just beyond the pool and orange grove is the petanc court (bocce ball). We’ve had some great tournaments there!
BEDROOMS AND BATHS
The two upstairs bedrooms share a beautifully remodeled bathroom with antique mallorcan tiles. The larger bedroom, with king size bed, has a terrace overlooking the garden and valley. The second bedroom has two twin beds and a view of the dramatic mountains. Both rooms have A/C. The third bedroom is off the foyer, and has a double bed. This bedroom is steps from the second full bathroom with shower and tub. The fourth bedroom is a studio off the kitchen and has a separate entrance - this room uses the third bathroom, that has a free standing shower.
VILLAGE
The home is very private, despite being just a 2 minute walk to the village plaza. As you walk along the cobblestone streets, you pass the carefully tended stone homes, all of which contribute to the beauty of the village. The plaza is the center of this ancient Moorish town with a quaint, fully equipped convenient store, a bank, post office, natural and traditional pharmacy, bakery, and several wonderful restaurants and cafes, and a magnificent church. The cafes at the plaza are open from the early morning until 1 or 2 or 3 at night (depending on how much fun you are having - the owners tend to stay open as long as you are ordering). There is also great hiking trails just steps from the house.

Fornalutx and this house were wonderful

Six of us (over three generations) -- aged 11 to 67 -- just returned from a near-flawless, 5-day stay at S'Aubereta. The multiple terraces, the pool, the fireplace, the flowering trees and vines, the fresh oranges right outside the door...all contributed to the magical feeling of this house. The only thing amiss was a miscommunication on the number of our party, resulting in one room's bed not being made up for us. But, a quick call to Pepe across the street resolved that in a snap. And, even better, the owner called us the next day to apologize and to make sure all was well. Fornalutx is such a lovely town! The stone streets and houses are simply charming. With everything there within easy walking distance, it's hard to think of reasons to leave it at all! Especially with the incredible pool at the house to lounge by. But we did walk down to Soller one day -- about a 45 minute walk through orange groves, olive tree stands and sheep pastures. Soller was nice for shopping and taking the tram down to Port de Soller. And another day we drove to the northeast tip of the island to Cap de Formentor. The nail-biting drive is worth it for the natural landscape that you see there. Words cannot describe how stupendously beautiful it is. And there are many towns along that drive that are worth a stop. Fornalutx is well located for exploring all these areas. But, at the end of the day, it was so nice to return to quiet Fornalutx, a local bottle of wine and a fire in the fireplace at the house. My one piece of advice/caution: do what you can to avoid arriving after dark to this house. We arrived at about 10pm, which made finding the house quite difficult. We did find it, but not without getting out of the car a few times to peer at street signs and house numbers. It was also a shame that we had no idea what beauty we were driving through, on our way through the mountains. It was only when we woke up in the morning and saw the view that our breath was taken away. I can recommend this house unreservedly. And I will, to all my friends.
Owner response:Dear Laura, As you know, a lot of love has to go into a house for it to shine and give love back! I am so glad that you felt the Aura of the house - our family has recided there since 1954 and now, the 4th generation, the great grand children, are staking a claim to this summe paradise. we are greatful that you came, and we are so happy that you liked your stay to its fullest!! Thank you Laura Dafne

The Magic of S'Aubereta

We stayed at S'Aubereta with our son and his family, including their 8 year old twins. Everyone agreed that it was the absolute best family vacation ever. The house is very comfortable and well laid out for a multiple generation stay. Everyone had private space and the patios and living room are spacious and comfortable. We cooked in regularly and the kitchen is well-equipped; even to the orange juice squeezer, which our granddaughter used daily for the family's fresh squeezed orange juice. The pool was a great asset; large enough for all of us to enjoy it, even with excited and splashing children. We loved being close to the little market and several restaurants (including a couple that are quite good) and being able to hike directly from the house. We also spent time in Port de Soller and Soller, which are both charming. The people who take care of S'Aubereta were very friendly and available, but not invasive. It was magical to wake in the morning to the sounds of the birds, and to be surrounded by the beautiful flowering trees and roses. We truly felt at home and fell under the spell of this lovely property.
Owner response:Dear Stephanie, What a lovely review, it touched my heart, for you have felt the warmth of our house, S'Aubereta. You have felt the love and the laughter that has been poured into this house by my parents, ourselves, our children and now our grand children. S'Aubereta has become a place where the whole family get together - for Easter for Weddings, for Birthdays or just to be together. We come from San Francisco, New York and London and Stockholm, and we all have the feeling we are "coming home from home". It felt good that our son in law took some people from his company to S'Aubereta for a company retreat. The high speed internet connections have opened up a new world for many that wish to get away but still need to be "connected". The couple that tend to the house are natives, knew my parents and take great pride in keeping the home a home. All the best and look forward to helping you set up a date for next year. Dafne

This home was one of the most amazing vacation sites one could experience. The home itself is lovely and spacious. Dafne, the owner, is so informative and helpful in getting to know interesting facts and history about this quaint village. The island of Mallorca offers so many things to do such as hiking, visiting nearby villages by foot or car, driving along the coast and taking in the magnificent views and enjoying the delicious restaurants in Fornalutx. The view from the back patio is breathtaking. One can see mountains, gorgeous flowers, hear birds chirping and water running from a brook on the property. The home has multiple decks and tiered levels creating lots of space for one to escape and simply nap or read a book. The town square is so adorable and the market has everything you might need. I hope to visit this home again in the near future.

This was a fantastic villa. It was everything we were looking for and more. Pictures don't do it justice. Fornalutx is a wonderful village. We had three kids ages 4-6 between two families and everyone had a super time. Excursions were great, but frankly, couldn't wait to get back to the beautiful villa.

We had a lovely stay at this property with two children. The house is perfectly located in this picturesque village. From the back terrace, you can't get enough of the view over the pool and to the mountains, an ideal place to take your meals. Within a two minute walk to the grocery store (warm croissants in the morning) and the main square. There are some good restaurants to walk to as well with spectacular views. We did day trips frequently to neighboring villages/towns and beaches, it was a great way to get to know the island. You definitely need to rent a car. The photos listed on site are accurate and the owner was very helpful in answering any of the multitude of questions I had before arrival.

My wife literally stumbled upon the listing for this villa in Fornalutx. We couldn't have been happier. We were a family of four traveling throughout Spain and planned a one week stay in Mallorca. The home was perfect - it came well appointed with everything you could need, a gorgeous pool that we were in every day, an orange grove for fresh juice every morning and even a secluded bocci court. The village of Fornalutx is magical and there's really no reason to leave unless you want to hit some of the more touristy areas of Mallorca. We parked our car and only used it once the entire stay. There is a grocer in the placa and many wonderful restaurants all within a short beautiful walk. Dafne the owner was the best host and called to check in on us halfway through our stay. Needless to say, we can not wait until next year and years beyond. Some families with young children may be wary of the pool - no shallow end ;) but so wonderful, just keep an eye on them.

We are a family of 6 persons. The home is very open, spacious, clean and beautiful. Fornalutx is a quaint village, with all that is needed for a trip. We spent 10 days, and easily covered all of Mallorca, a breath-taking island. Dafne, the owner, is very helpful, and assistance from the caretaker is across the street if needed. I already have recommended this property to friends, and will continue to do so. Everything is well-maintained, and we had a wonderful stay. Thanks Dafne!

I don´t know if I ever felt so at peace and at home in a place before. This is a truly charming, genuine, lovely, peaceful and relaxing villa, garden and village!!The house has a perfect size and is in a very good condition. A big garden with lots of flowers and orange-trees. A huge pool where there is shade. Nice view over the mountains. The waters flows beside the garden. This is the best place to stay at Mallorca! You can do trips - but we liked the house so much that we mostly stayed at home. We would really like to return and stay longer than our 2 weeks.
