The master bathroom is steps away with a Mexican tiled sink, dramatic shower with an actual built-in tiled sitting bench and sky lights to show off the hand painted wall mural.

Just step outside to another half bathroom with stained glass windows, Mexican tiled sink and all the comforts of home.
Mexican arches and nooks allow for a very open and spacious flow in this jewel of a home. Dramatic lighting sets off the hues and colors used on the walls. The Mexican kitchen was designed for easy living - with its array of bright colors and original tiles- has all modern appliances, large pantry, gas oven and stove-top. There is a triple filtered water system as well as bottled water.
All linens and towels are quality fabrics, understanding the needs of spoiling visitors. The TV, with 600 satellite stations from Canada to United States, includes movies, sports and a host of music stations for your listening pleasure.
For your convenience: there is a US washer and US dryer, a storage room for folks with golf clubs and sports equipment.
We've taken the pleasure to supply you with a list of our favorite restaurants, shops, village outdoor market days and full day outings to artistic and historical cities. We enjoy stocking the fridge with a few goodies to get you going the first day you arrive and you can certainly pop down the street for some fill- ins. This home is so well located that many visitors never use their cars. There are a variety of small fruit and vegetable markets 3 streets away, 2 fish markets and a small grocery store. This will give you a chance to stock up on our local produce and enjoy the quality foods.
Only 3 minutes from home,we have our very own baker (Pan). Walk down the cobblestones to the original rustic bakery and buy warm fresh rolls every morning, croissants, sweet rolls (pan dulce) and have an authentic experience with our local baker who speaks English! Once inside this amazing bakery-you can special order: bagels, baguetes whole wheat croissants and cactus bread.

With everything on one floor, you can be mobile and enjoy the house.

Walk the cobblestone streets, get caught in the local sights and sounds of the village, and enjoy what over 7,000 North Americans call home.
We would also like to remind you that we have another home, The Mexican Sunrise House (VRBO #143099),that is close by for families and friends that want to enjoy their visits together, but maintain their privacy and comfort. The website was instrumental in persuading us to select the Jewel House for our 1st vacation in Ajijic. The photos depicted a lovely, spacious casita that contained every desired amenity, along with an enthusiastic host who encourages his guests to ask questions about the Lake Chapala region, things to do in Ajijic, where to eat, shop, engage with the residents, etc. The house presents just as promised, with hand-painted murals, colorful Mexican tiles, unique artistic furniture, linens, & a well-stocked kitchen for those who prefer to cook @ home. The tiled fountain in the courtyard was absolutely delightful, & a soothing accompaniment to quiet reading or conversation or meditation. We're already planning our return visit. I could not recommend this lovely jewel more highly!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

What a great place to stay. Very clean and within walking distance of everything. Leo and Gaby are great hosts, very friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay here again without hesitation. Property is very well maintained, everything works. The two best places to eat, that we found, were both close by and no more than a 5 minute walk. The two best were Tango and Hacienda de Lago.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We loved our stay in Ajijic. The Mexican Jewel House was perfect and the owner of the property could not have been any nicer and helpful. The location was great and the patio was very quiet and private. We plan to stay at the Mexican Jewel House next year and many years to come.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+.

Thank you Leo & Gabby for hosting us so warmly on our recent trip to Ajijic! We loved everything about your casita and your charming town. The accommodation was outstanding, the landscaping lush, the food delicious and the town so Mexican. We have been in Mexico several times before. On those earlier visits we could have been in any resort anywhere in the world. This time however we left with a far greater understanding of what makes Mexico unique. We appreciate all your good advice from where to buy freshly baked bread each mnorning to where to detox in thermal baths and dine in fine restaurants. As I look out my window on this dreary winter's day, my mind transports me to the casista's patio where we hear the neighbor's rooster calling, the water fountain flowing and smell the bougainvillea! We will be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We had a delightful stay. The property was all that it was advertised to be, and the hosts were friendly, informative but not at all obtrusive (including Cali!). Leo's introduction to the property and to the community is a must-listen - get out the map he provides and mark it up because you'll likely be heading out to the places and people he tells you about. He also provides some very useful information on local customs and events that will give you more confidence during your stay. Ajijic is all walkable from the property; and there is secure off-street parking if you have a car (which you'll need to visit other communities in the region, like Chapala and Jocotepec). Based on our experience, we highly recommend this property and community.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

The house was all we expected from the listing and more. It was clean and beautifully appointed and decorated. Nestled in a bustling village neighbourhood with cobble streets, we were steps to shops and amenities. Leo and Cali met us when we arrived (even though we were unsure of our arrival time) and provided us with all the information and tools we needed to get settled and oriented to the town. We felt comfortable walking in the community during the day and after dark. Locals and visitors both were friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed our meals outside in the little private courtyard surrounded greenery, birdsong (wild and domestic!), and sunshine more than eating out. In the mornings we woke to sounds of roosters and a stonemason's horse clip clopping up the street to work at a neighbouring property. Market day is a must do! Hot sticky buns from the bakery just around the corner! Fresh fish and vegetables down the street to cook up in the well appointed kitchen! We will definitely visit again if we get back to Ajijic.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We had a great week in Ajijic . We were very satisfied with the Mexican Jewel House accommodation. Beds were very comfortable and home was well equipped and felt like home shortly after our arrival. Very nice seating area in front courtyard. Our host Leo was very hospitable and organized. There is lots to do in Ajijic and surrounding area. I would recommend this property to friends and family. We hope to return for a longer visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We stayed at the Jewel house in January. What a great time! Between the local people, the weather (70-75 degrees everyday) and our host Leo, it was a super well-needed vacation. You can walk locally or take a bus, just 2 blocks away. We checked out Jocotopec and Guadaljara, different but both pretty and historic towns. This house is beautiful, a well designed Mexican architecture, while paying attention to every little detail.. We will be back!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

It's hard not to keep coming back to this beautiful town and this lovely casita. Okay, my ability resist is low but regardless, Ajijic has so much to offer - an unworldly perfect climate, old world charm, cultural authenticity, great food, and general laid back ambiance. The Jewel house, built in typical Mexican style, is the perfect spot to enjoy it all from. Love the huge shower with skylight and the wonderfully tranquil patio, the well appointed kitchen and it's all within easy walking distance to the local panetería, fishmonger and produce shops as well as the heart of Ajijic and the delightful malecon along the shore of Lake Chapala. The one floor layout makes easy to navigate the home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
