Les Bouyssières is a traditional, cosy, slate roofed house with attractive stone walls and original wooden beams. The house sleeps 4/5 in two bedrooms. A separate, attached studio for two more people in your party, comprising a further air-conditioned twin bedroom with en-suite shower room and water closet, has its own access and small breakfast terrace. The studio is only available together with the house as extra accommodation.

The house has been carefully renovated to retain its character and charm and is comfortably furnished and equipped to a high standard, demonstrated by its 4-star classification for comfort and quality from the Office of Tourism of Lot. The house sits in its own unenclosed gardens of flowers, fruit trees, lawn and grassland and is set in an area dotted with similar small stone-built farmhouses, many of which are working farms producing such crops as wheat, maize and tobacco and raising ducks and geese. A few minutes walk down the road takes you to the quiet village of Creysse and the river Dordogne.

The combination of gas fired central heating for cooler months and air conditioned bedrooms for hot summer months make the house welcoming and comfortable all the year round. For visitors who need to keep in touch with home or office, a wifi broadband internet connection provides unlimited access.

Both terraces, one south-facing in front of the house and a second at the rear of the house, are equipped for outside dining. All around are superb views of the cliffs and wooded slopes of the Dordogne valley. The 4000m2 gardens include a private parking area.

The area is rich in history and medieval architecture as well as being within easy reach of spectacular cave systems, many famous for their prehistoric paintings.

There are many excellent restaurants nearby where visitors can enjoy the excellent local produce. Short walks from Les Bouyssières will take you to two local farm shops selling their own duck and goose products.

    • Modern comfort and rustic charm nestled in a peaceful and relentlessly picturesque landscape: these qualities moved Les Bouyssieres to the top of our list of favorite European rentals. For the three of us (one adult couple and one independent adult) who rented Les Bouyssieres this last September, our week long stay turned out to be the highlight of a trip that also included Paris, Vezelay, and Venice. The kind owners of Les Bouyssieres, who restored a lot of the cottage themselves, obviously gave a great deal of thought to the comfort and convenience of their guests. The cottage has a spacious, modern and beautifully finished kitchen, two and one-half bathrooms (also modern and well-finished), a comfortably furnished living room, a utility room with a washing machine, and wireless Internet connectivity throughout the house. But all of this comfort is offered without aesthetic compromises or loss of an indigenous country-living feel. The generously sized bedrooms, tucked comfortably into the attic of the cottage and with decoratively exposed beams, are particularly charming. And the exterior of the house, its one outbuilding and extensive grounds are impeccably maintained in a manner appropriate to the region. Creysse, the town where Les Bouyssieres is located, may be difficult to find on a map, but it offers many delights worth exploring (as well as a good restaurant). And nearby Martel has an extensive and beautiful medieval section as well as stores of all kinds, and very good restaurants. While Les Bouyssieres and its immediate environs are delightful in and of themselves to spend time in, the cottage also proved a convenient home base for day excursions to the Romanesque, gothic and renaissance splendors of Souillac, Sarlat, Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, Conques, Moissac and Rocamadour. We would highly recommend Les Bouyssieres to others--and are indeed already ourselves longing for a return visit.
