A small country town with big beautiful views. A true paradise. The north end of the Big Island of Hawaii is the Kohala Coast - awe-inspiring and rich in history and culture. Our town has all the benefits of local living with blessings of aloha. We also have a handful of attractions that bring people to this end of the Big Island.Situated a few miles from the birth place of King Kamehameha, you can feel the true spirit of the island while sleeping in the shadow of royalty.
An hour from Kailua-Kona and less than two hours to Hilo - Hawi is a perfect starting point for any course. Daytrips in any direction can lead to genuine discoveries around the island - you can find yourself at the historical site of the ancient Hawaiian village of Lapakahi or the beautiful Waipio Valley or horseback riding along the cliffs with breathtaking views everywhere you look. North Kohala offers the sights and hikes of Pololu Valley - a black sand beach, bamboo forest and rugged coastline - this sacred and spectacular place is a destination for many visitors to our island.
You may not be able to drive to Hana, Maui from here, but looking across the pacific to Haleakala is a picture you will never forget. The migration of the Humpback whale returns every winter - the Kohala coast is the route of these magnificent creatures, it is not uncommon to see a mother and her calf following close to the cliffs or breaching males high in the air At times they swim so close to shore one can listen to their calls. Hapuna Beach and Mauna Kea Beach, two of the most beautiful white sand beaches of all the Islands are an easy 25 minute drive down the scenic Kohala coast from Hawi Town. The big Island also serves up all the usual forms of island recreation, live Hawaiian music and delicious Pacific Rim dining. We would love to offer suggestions. |
