Really comfortable and laid back cottage.
Really comfortable and laid back cottage.
My husband, myself and my two grown sons rented this cottage for one week in August 2012. This cottage appealed to us because of all the rooms, the reasonable rental cost, and the location on the island close to Main Street and an easy bike ride to the beach (short walk to Mr Whippie's!). The owner, Ellen, was very helpful and replied to all my emails very quickly and in a very friendly manner. The cottage is lovely - we are very used to renting cottages in small beach towns so our expectations were more than met. To start, there's lots of room. The kitchen is a delight to cook in with all the counter space and island - we had all our breakfasts here and cooked 2 large seafood feasts as well. The living room is comfy and I liked the new furniture better because I didn't have to worry about it getting wrecked! The bedrooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. There is a small screened porch off the kitchen which we used a lot and thankfully it had a fan because it can get very hot on the island. The cottage has central air and there are lots of ceiling fans which we enjoyed too. The front porch is not screened but it is covered and we often sat there in the evening. From the shed we used the bikes, the beach chairs and the umbrella and all were fine - nothing fancy but very usable. The cottage itself is decorated nicely with hard wood floors throughout the lower level and in the bedroom upstairs. Our boys stayed upstairs (with their own bathroom) which they appreciated so they didn't have to hear my husband snoring! Overall , this is a lovely, clean and well maintained cottage - not overly fancy but nice and comfortable just like a cottage should be - bring your own towels and sheets and you won't have to wash and dry them before you leave, most cottages don't provide linens or toilet paper, etc. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

Manager response: Judy-Thanks for the comments, and would love to have you back!! You have found the spirit of Atlantic Delight and CI and AI are the greatest places for a laid back, fun place to hang out with the entire family ;-) We love being assessable (I am literally online most every day with work!) so I can answer in a jiffy. We have not raised our rent in over 5 years and plan to keep it the same for 5 more!! lol!! Ellen
Its a house
Its a house
We spent the week of the 4th of July here. We loved the Islands layed back style, the beach is beautiful. But the initial impressions of the house were not so fond. Pretty much all the furniture in the pictures is not the furniture in the house, the stuff in there is very cheap mostly from Ikea. That nice 4 poster bed, gone. Plus only 2 tv's not the 3 listings. Towels yes. 5 (beach/bath) towels. 1 roll of Toilet paper provided, and 1 trash bag. But no one tells you so you spend a bunch of time looking. They ask you to wash / dry and put away all the sheets before you leave. The only problem is it takes FOR EVER for the sheets and towels to dry. We waited around an hour longer than planned waiting for the sheets to dry. There is a long explanation of the wifi and its settings, but it dont read it as the wifi is unsecure your device will just see it and connect. BIkes, yup with flat tires and no pump. Management company suggest a couple gas stations that might have free air. Of course not sure how to get the bikes to the gas stations. Got to cut up a water melon with a cake frosting knife as all the other knives were 3 or 4" long only. Despite all this we enjoyed the Island and had a good vacations. Might come back but would find another house to try so my nickname here only goes for the local not the house.

Manager response: Sorry you did not like our Ikea furniture!! It is a house, and I did update the listing to reflect some of the changes you noticed. We did replace the four poster queen with a master *ikea, you did guess that right* king bed, and the living room furniture is a new set from Rooms to Go. No, it is not a fancy house at all, you are right. I am so sorry you felt disappointment on your vacation. I do want to let you know that with direct contact to me, feel free to email if there is something you feel is missing. Many of our vacationers are repeat clients, and know that if you pick up a new knife or add a beach towel if you email me first, I will pay you back and some folks just add this and that b.c. they feel that type of connection with the house and island-that is never expected though! We do everything to keep our rates low-which includes shopping at Ikea and keeping it low key- I am so sorry you were disappointed with our house! We try to keep it simple, but clean and provide all the basics, but you are right, we do not provide much more than the basics. The bikes and beach gear is kind of left there if you want to use it you do have to pump tires at the local station, and provide your own helments. Over the years people have left coolers, chairs, umbrellas, crab traps, but all those items circulate through as people come and go.....Again, we are very assessable via email and any problems=you always can notify me directly!!!
I arrived for my week long vacation in Chincotegue, VA and could not have been more pleased with the accommodations. It was very neat, clean and organized. The covered front and back porches gave my family places to congregate even as a tropical depression strolled thru. The city and Wildlife refuge gave us more than enough to keep us busy during the days and the porches (and ice creams shops) gave us plenty of options at night. Captain Andrew from The Fishtales boat cruise was excellent, he took us clamming, crabbing, fishing and site seeing. Overall the best vacation I have ever had!

About: My husband and I love the outdoors, and love any place that couples a small town with great outdoor activies. We love to hike, swim, bike, kayak and spend lots of time with our kids, doing things together.
We just love this town, and we just love the barrier Island. Its a beach in its purest form, on Assateague Island, no houses, or highrises to destroy what nature meant to be. And Chincoteague is a small town that remains a fishing village, so you can get a great experience all around!
