Durango, Colorado holds the beauty of a vanished world. It is the most tranquil place mixed with history, recreation, and unerasable memories. Our 2600+ square foot custom home is nestled in the mountains overlooking beautiful Lake Purgatory. The brilliance of Engineer and Spud Mountain can be seen to the North, and to the East the Animas River which flows through the La Plata Mountains.
The home was created by the hands of a master with each window intricately creating a new view of the lake. Giant doors lead you onto a deck where you'll find a hot tub that you can soak in after your daily activities. At night the sky is so black, you'll feel like you're sitting under an umbrella of stars. The night is so peaceful you can hear the fish in the water. You'll be located at an elevation of 9000 feet somewhere in the vicinity of the gods. The interior is very comfortable with all luxurious amenities that will connect you back to the real world. Now that you've found the perfect place to visit, look no further for a place to stay.
You can walk out and fish for brook trout in the backyard. We have a canoe you can take out to fish the lake. It is a private lake so you won't see many others. Summer is the busy season in Durango, you can ride the train, hike, bike, bobsled at the ski area across the street, horseback riding, gold panning or rest and read a book. We are 26 miles north of Durango. If you have any questions please feel free to call. Experience Durango, Colorado.

Truly a slice of heaven on earth. I do not think there is a more relaxing vacation retreat around. The house is amazing. It has everything you could want . The lake view is awesome. We stayed in the loft and woke up each morning to the view of the lake. Even kitchen chores were effortless because of the panoramic view of the lake. We loved watching the beavers and ducks go about their daily activities. We will remember this retreat forever!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

We have stayed at Lake Purgatory Lodge every summer for the past three years. Our entire family loves spending time there. It is like our very own vacation home. The view is amazing - don't mind doing the dishes with the kitchen window overlooking the beautiful lake. We love watching the ducks and the beaver. The beaver has become somewhat of a family "pet" to us. The house is in a great central location. It's far enough from Durango to feel secluded and close enough to drive into town if you need something from the store or just want to go shopping. The mountains are all around so there is a great view anywhere you look. Many trails close by for hiking plus some ghost towns to explore. It gets cool enough at night in the summertime so we can enjoy the hot tub out on the back porch. It's one of our favorite places to view the millions of stars that come out at night. Lake Purgatory Lodge is the perfect place for a family vacation. We hope to make it a tradition for our family to return every summer. The house and the amenities are outstanding! It's an excellent place to unwind.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Thank you for your review. We strive to make it a special place you will come back to.

We stayed over Thanksgiving week. We arrived at night so imagine our surprise whenw e woke up int he morning to the gorgeous lake frozen over with snow on the ground! The house is spacious and has everything you oculd think of! Location is fantastic -- close enough to the sights but still secluded enough to be a vacation. Owner was great and everything was smooth and easy! I have already recommended it to others.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

The Lake Purgatory Lodge is a beautiful and comfortable home in the mountains above Durango. The description and pictures are accurate. This was our first stay at Lake Purgatory, but our second trip to Durango. Both trips were fun, but, this one stood out. In addition to all the great things we did around Durango, we stayed on property a couple of days and just relaxed. The entire family caught fish and enjoyed the wonderful nature around the property. We actually caught over 80 fish, but used barbless hooks, so we were able to safely release all but 3 brook trout. They tasted great! We especially enjoyed using the canoe, row boat and paddle boat. There’s a beaver lodge on the lake and we watched the activity from the beaver throughout our trip. The house has a nice deck with gas grill and a hot tub that allowed us to enjoy while watching the kids. Marcia was easy to deal with and we look forward to our next stayRecommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Many of the families enjoy their stay and treat it as their own home for future visits. We have one family that wants to go to Grandma's lake house. They come back every summer. Family memories are made here.
