We recently stayed here for a week with two other couples. The location is certainly convenient to local restaurants and the water taxi to West Bay. The house was comfortable and well planned. They offered a variety of security measures, so any fears about safety can be put to rest. The snorkeling right from the beach beside the villa in Half Moon Bay was wonderful and shouldn’t be missed. The villa was very nice, although it could use some cushions on the porch for sitting comfortably any length of time. Make sure you hire Susan one night to cook for your group. She has a wonderful personality and prepared a delicious feast for our group. In hindsight, I would make my own reservations for tours we wanted to take as we were disappointed with the concierge service. Also, there is now a large inflatable water feature for children right beside the villa. This wasn’t a problem, but it was not something we expected from the photos.
Owner response:I am glad they enjoyed our villa so much. The front porch is completely furnished with chairs, tables, and loungers, as you can see in the photos. It is all high end flat woven construction; being directly on the beach we have found foam cushions get moldy and smelly really quickly, and this stuff is quite comfortable and stays clean. The water feature is a pool slide kind of thing, great fun for kids, and as said above, they are a good neighbor.

My wife and I had seen a show on HGTV's International House Hunters that featured Coral Vistas. After our jaws hit the floor, we taped it to show to our usual Mexico travel buddies. The seven of us have been renting houses in Playa del Carmen for 18 years, but it has lost its' luster. Too big, too expensive, and now full of American fast food places. We pined for the old Playa of simpler days with local charm and authenticity. After getting together and watching the tape everyone wanted to go there. So, we looked it up on the internet, and the descriptions and pictures we found, only convinced us more that we needed to make it this winter's escape from Minnesota. The seven of us spent a fabulous week at the Half Moon Bay House, old Playa rediscovered, only better! We were rewarded by a better than expected experience. Roatan is a beautiful, laid back island with beautiful beaches and extremely friendly people. The house surpassed our highest expectations. It was very clean and wonderfully decorated with fabulous views in all directions. Someone from the agency that manages these properties met us when we arrived and filled us in on all the great things there are to do on the island. Anytime we had a problem or a question, help was just a phone call to the office and a few minutes away. Most everything we wanted to do was literally just steps from the house. Great affordable restaurants, bars and shops, and a spectacular beach. We didn't do as many things as we initially thought we would, because sitting on the front patio by the pool with balmy breezes, great views, a cool drink, conversation or a good book was so relaxing that it was difficult to budge us. One of the greatest experiences we had was to hire a cook ( Susan ), and have her cook us an island dinner at the house. Indescribable! We can all pack in a good size meal, but we still had enough leftovers for another meal. Another must, is to hire a boat with crew, which is very easy to do, and go by sea around about a third of the island to a wonderful and quirky restaurant called the "Hole in the Wall". Would you enjoy all the Lobster tail and barbeque you can eat for $25.00? We sure did! Oh, and the best for last. There is not one single American fast food joint in West End! We are having a Roatan group reunion this weekend, and there is no doubt that we all want to go back next winter, only for two weeks this time.

In January, we stayed a week at the Half Moon Bay House. My wife and I had probably the best vacation we have had in several years. The house, staff and location were incredible. The house was well-kept, offered wonderful views, had a great layout. - Super kitchen! The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Everything was explained in detail when we got there and all arrangements made when we left. We could not have asked for more. We had stopped in Roatan on a cruise a few years before and loved it so we decide to go back for a week. We wanted to rent a house but were not sure where the best location would be. After roaming around Roatan for a week, we came to the conclusion that there was no other location better suited for us. Everybody talked about West Beach, so we took a water taxi over. After 2 hours and a zillion cruise ship people, we could not wait to get back to the beautiful, quaint, laid-back island style of Half Moon Bay. Snorkeling, relaxing on the beach - right out our door! Walking, shopping, great restaurants - right out our door! We had no need for a taxi. Also, the people of Roatan were wonderful. We felt we could go anywhere at anytime. In short, we won't hesitate to go back again......hopefully soon.

We stayed at the end of the low season in Nov/Dec and had a great time. What more can you ask for in a property? It had its own private, dipping pool with panoramic ocean bay views. The AC worked great and the cooking facilities were more than adequate. I would recommend either using the free grocery stocking service or have the taxi driver stop at one of the mega supers near the airport to stock up on the way. Taxi rides were pricey at $20 each way, especially if you are only using them for shopping. The climate was very mild, particularly at night. It was not that stuffy Caribbean humidity that we are used to. We took the free kayaks out one morning that required a bit of muscle dropping them into the water and that might have been the most difficult thing we did the whole trip. Snorkeling was okay out front although we heard that there was good stuff to see near the dock of the submarine. We wanted to do the sub, but the gentleman was out of town. We zip lined twice including my 4 year old daughter who was giddy with each line and couldn't wait to go again. The trip to the Cayos Cochinos was bit of a bust as the boat broke down and we were stranded for a while, but my daughter made friends with the locals. The best local snorkeling was at the very south end of West Bay Beach on a day that the cruise ships are not in town. It was an easy H20 taxi ride about $3 one way per person. The Roatan Life management company was great in arranging tours and also being available for any inconveniences. Our car rental broke down and they helped get it fixed fairly quickly. As to the dining, the noodle house was a great deal and we liked the Argentinean restaurant. We also ate at the Lighthouse restaurant, which is literally behind the villa. I loved talking with the owners and family, but I did not love the fact that I got violently ill about 2-3 hours after dining there. Perhaps the worst case of food poisoning that I ever had. All of us ate there, but I was the only one who ate the Conch soup (yes, I have had it several times before across the Caribbean). I was fine in the morning and went to the Cayos without incident, so it was clearly food poisoning. Overall, I thought that Roatan was relatively quiet and cheap compared to much of the Eastern Caribbean that we have visited. Because of the cruise ships, there are tons of things to do. If you avoid the cruise ship crowds, you will be at peace. We can't wait to come back again!

5 of us rented the whole house for one week. It was paradise. Very convenient to shops, restaurants, dive boat. Short walk to dive shop and boat. Fabulous fun sitting in calm bay water sipping beer. Close to town but still very private and quiet. Loved the veranda and infinity pool. Liz (hostess) was wonderful. You should definitely arrange to have local cook prepare dinner in the villa at least one night -- and eat leftovers for lunch next day. We went to local grocery store and bought breakfast/lunch foods but ate dinner out. Enjoyed fresh fruit purchased daily from local truck vendors. Diving was great -- fabulous, huge sponges and good visibility!!! Enjoyed kayaking in bay. Glass bottom boat was fun for non-diver in our group. House was stocked with plenty of books. Local cat hung with us all week and entertained us with his lizard hunting skills. I will definitely go back.

we stayed the week of 12.05.09. we had diverse group, various ages, divers & snorkelers, What a great time. The house was beautiful, very clean, the perfect location. We wish we could have stayed a month. It was quiet with night life near by.the coral in front of the house was breathtaking. The beach next door, great and the water temp was soothing. The outdoor living space was where we spent the most time, coffee, happy hour and late night.

Thank you so much for renting us your house. We had an amazing time! The house was very comfortable and the views were to die for. We had one rough night when the upstairs AC unit broke down, but it was fixed within a couple hours. Everything was perfect. Liz is a doll and was very helpful. Tex was the best! He took us on an island tour and set up some great snorkeling for us with his friend, Richard. The Blue Channel!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!! We can't wait to get back to Roatan someday and would rent your house again in a blink. The weather was perfect everyday (90 degrees & 85 degree water)and we came home refreshed and feeling good. I lost 6lbs and my husband lost 4lbs just from all the activity and living on fish, rice and vegetables. Wonderful trip! Thanks again!

My family and I rented one of your villas on Half Moon Bay in the beginning of August and we had a great time. We explored a large portion of the island on our own with a rental vehicle and visited several very unique places. We enjoyed talking with the local people and never found there to be any problems or issues. We saw several road blocks but by showing our passport and rental car information, the police were very polite and we never had any reason for concern. We felt very safe and never felt that there was any type of "unrest" on the island. Actually, it was quite to the contrary. We learned that the news media in the US perhaps had not fully reported all the facts or the complete story regarding the changes in the local government. We wouldn't have any problem recommending travel to Roatan. We would return without hesitation. This was the second visit to Roatan for me and my husband, and a first visit for the rest of our family. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip, and again, you all did a great job for us. We hope this helps. It would be a shame if people would hesitate visiting Roatan due to misinformation.

This was one of the best vacations we have ever taken. With all the media coverage about Honduras, the island was uneffected and everyone was so very nice. The house is unbelieveable. Mike Carter was there to greet us when we arrived and was very nice and inforamtive. The resturants in West End were excellent. We also cooked in the house. The store in Coxen hole and the new grocery store in French Harbour was like Albertsons, very american friendly. We snorkeled a few places around the island, and it was good, but the best was right out front of the house in Halfmoon Bay. The fish were everywhere and the water was perfect. The guys went fishing and caught us dinner. They had a wonderful time, one more thing to cross off the "Bucket List" of life. Our van driver and BFF Capitan Whitsell James took excellent care of us. We highly recommend calling him if you stay on the island and want someone to take you shopping, a tour of the island, snorkeling spots, he is the best. We met him captaining a catamaran a yeay ago on a shorkeling trip we took when we were on a cruise and fell in love with hin and the island and decided to return for 2 weeks!! The power went out and the generator crashed the middle of our 2nd week, It was not fixed by the time we went home, but island power did finally come on and saved us, we only had 1 bad, hot, night with no power. That was not too bad, Mike Carter brought us an ice chest for our food and he was excellent in trying to make it as comfortable as possible. We thank him for all his efforts. Other than that hickup, the house was perfect, the island and it's locals were perfect, the food was perfect, (Lighthouse next door is the bomb) Myrna, on the beach at the enterance of the house, gives a great massage...My husband had 2 in 2 weeks! We had 6 people in the house and it was very comfortable...best beds ever! We can't wait to return...

After having stayed for a week in May of 2008, I returned to this beautiful home once again this year and am so happy I did. This home feels like a home away from home, only so much more luxurious! The amenities are impressive, and I love the fact I can access high speed internet so I can keep my business going while spending time in paradise going scuba diving and lounging next to the small pool located right on the veranda which overlooks the ocean. The house is right on the ocean, with views from every window of the home. You could only get comparable views by staying on a boat! I loved being so near the village with such easy access to the beach and street vendors selling fresh vegetables and fruit. The scuba diving is superb in this area, and enjoyed seeing so much sea life! I will be back again!

The house has everything we could have needed and have already recommended it to many people! We had the entire house for just 2 of us but still, was absolutely wonderful. I loved it here and am sad that I have to leave. I WILL BE BACK THO! Thanks to everyone that helped us get here... :-)

We rented this gorgeous house on Half Moon Bay for a week and it was perfect. You couldn't ask for a better location right in the middle of town and steps from all the dive shops. I awoke every morning to a beautiful ocean vista. Snorkeling on the vibrant reef literally just a few feet off the shore was almost as impressive as many of the dive sites. The owners set us up with an agency which had a taxi driver meet us at the airport. "Tex" served as our own personal concierge service while on the island - arranging for day trips, recommending spas and restaurants, and getting us to and from anyplace we wanted to be on the island. We had a group of 8 with different interests and we had people zigzagging all over the island. West Bay is only a water taxi ride away, which are you can pick up not more than 100 ft. from this house. The house rental was far more economical and practical than the touristy resorts in West Bay, but without sacrificing the services of an all-included. The house added a whole new dimension to what would have been a wonderful vacation anyway. Don't stay at those resorts in West Bay where they will charge you an arm and a leg for food when you can stay here and grill or go to the much more moderately priced restaurants in West End. VRBO is the way to go.

I was so surprised at the beauty and high end finishes in the home we stayed in. I think the location is probably the best on the island...located on a tip of land surrounded by ocean yet immersed in the middle of the town of West End so it is easy to access shopping for fresh fruit and vegetables, yet enough removed from the town to be very quiet and private. I was surprised there were views from every window in the house, with the ocean coming right up to a beautiful veranda that overlooks a coral reef filled bay and beach. Just a few steps away from the house, I could go out and snorkel where I saw beautiful fish and other wildlife. I will be back for sure!

Roatan is one of the few places I have visited that surpassed my carefully researched expectations. Beauty in every direction, the underwater panorama breathtaking, the people friendly and helpful. All was available to reach a level of relaxation and satisfaction I haven't had in a long time. The house was a large factor in my very positive experience. This Half Moon Bay house is ideally located, well appointed, and a natural extension of the beauty that surrounds it. The Owners description of the property, advise on things to do, night life, restaurants, diving was spot on. What a pleasure to have everything you need a short, pleasant walk away. Roatan, this rental, the Owners get an A+ in my book.

We just returned from a week at this fantastic house. This is a True Caribbean Paradise! All that was expected came to life. The Bay is excellent for snorkeling, even the beginner Divers were found there. The attractions and small village feel were all within reach. A wonderful way to unwind from the hectic lives we all lead. Eat in with prepared local cuisine by your own cook, or just cook for oneself with plenty of seafood to be found. Try the restaurants close by and if the nightlife one desires, well plenty to be found within a mile or so. The beauty of the Island can be seen with its many attractions, and yes the friendly locals. We will return to this ideal location. The views from all the rooms were spectacular. Pictures perfect our daily postcard right here. Thank you for sharing the home with us.

9/8/07Our visit to Roatan was cut short due to Hurricane Felix. We had only spent one and a half days before evacuations were mandated. We were concerned for our safety but were also very worried about the residents of Roatan and how the beautiful island was going to withstand the predicted 160 mile winds. Fortunately the hurricane veered away and did not hit Roatan. We were very disappointed not to have completed our vacation but relieved that Roatan was not affected. The house and the island was one of the most beautiful places we had ever visited. The features of the Half Moon Bay House and its location could not have been more perfect. The restaurant Mavis and Dixie’s is right next door and their fresh fish and cold beer was the best!! Our husbands are hard to please and they thought it was their favorite place yet. We spent 2 nights on the mainland of Honduras and tried desperately to get back to Roatan but were not successful. We finally gave up and went home. We knew we would return someday and decided to make it sooner than later. We immediately re-booked a return and are planning to go back on Oct. 13, 2007. If the 1 ½ days we spent are any indication of how an entire week will be, we expect to have one of the best vacations ever. The house is beautiful, the location is perfect and the people of Roatan are wonderful. Jonathan and his colleagues took good care of us and made sure we were safe and comfortable. We’ll check in later and give you all an update after our week in October. Ortiz and Jensen FamiliesSanta Barbara, Ca

My husband and I spent a wonderfully relaxing week in late May at Half Moon Bay house with six friends, making eight of us at the house. We were all comfortable and there was plenty of room for time alone and full-group gatherings. While almost all of the group members were snorkeling or diving most days, not being a fan of swimming, I chose to sit on the covered deck and laze the week away watching the ocean, reading, chatting and enjoying the cooling breezes. In fact, the motto for the week was "How beautiful it is to do nothing, and then rest afterwards." (Although I must admit that I am the only member of our group who actually adhered to that motto…) I enjoyed a perfectly blissful week. There was nothing I wanted that wasn't readily available, and I did not feel that I was ‘missing out’ by not taking advantage of the water activities. We loved the ease of walking to the grocery stores, the restaurants and the trucks with their mounds of fresh produce! We found vendors who sold just-caught fish and created feasts on the grill on the deck. I became addicted to plantain chips! Those in our group who snorkeled (just a few steps from the deck or from the sea kayaks that were provided) and went a bit further out for diving declared it some of the best in the world. We also enjoyed watching the small three-person submarine come and go each evening from across the bay.Everyone we met on the island was wonderfully helpful and friendly. The Half Moon Bay House itself is pure luxury, and sits directly on the water with bay and ocean views. I would highly recommend it for a diving, snorkeling, or simply relaxing vacation. It’s a guarantee that we’ll be returning to Half Moon Bay House again and again.

Roatan is the perfect vacation island, West End Village is the best place to be on the island, and Half Moon Bay house is the best place stay in West End Village. While everything inside the house was great, it's really all about the location and the deck. Just steps to the water and the restaurant, a 5 minute walk to the dive shop. But you don't have to go even that far to experience the best - sit on the deck and watch the water until evening, then watch the sunset sipping rum drinks. Our week at Half Moon Bay house was pure relaxation and fun. We'll be back.

My beau and I just returned from a one-week stay at Half Moon Bay house. Not only was it a lovely, lovely home, well appointed and close to everything, but quite a quiet, romantic spot as well. The home had everything one could possibly want, including being right on the beach for swimming and snorkeling, quick access to dive shops, restaurants and groceries. We loved Mavis and Dixie's (one of the best on the island)restaurant next door! We were in search of relaxation and romance, with a bit of adventure thrown in and absolutely found it at Half Moon Bay house and in Roatan! Nightly sunset watching on the patio was spectular! We will return next year to the house for our check out dives as we have decided to pursue our scuba certification. Thanks for a great vacation!

We also enjoyed watching the small three-person submarine come and go each evening from across the bay. Everyone we met on the island was wonderfully helpful and friendly.

Half Moon Bay House is an amazing place to relax, vacation and relax! We stayed with several friends at the House and loved it. Based on teh pictures we were expecting a lot, and we weren't disappointed! It is literally right on the ocean - you can hop in anytime. The Diving and Snorkeling are world-class as is the kindness and friendliness of the islanders. We had great dinners on the big dining table inside and outside on the deck many nights. Everything you need is there to enjoy youself and have a wonderful time. We highly recommend Half Moon Bay House!

My wife and I rented one of the bedrooms of this house - a lock-off arrangement (rather than renting the entire house). This is a perfect setup for those not in need of an entire house. The house is beautiful, and the room we rented is equipped with everything you'll need. Great views. Very close to dozens of restaurants, and about ten steps to the beach. Also, a very family oriented neighborhood. Highly recommend!

Our group of 7 adults just returned from a week long vacation at Half Moon Bay House on Roatan. Loved it, loved it, loved it! Beautiful house with quality appliances, furniture and kitchen supplies. Very clean house with plenty of bath and beach towels for everyone. Extremely convenient location! Walked to Native Sons dive shop every day...Walked to dinner every night. Walked to the little corner grocery when necessary and found the woman selling banana nut bread/carrot cake lady each day on the beach. Also found the black pickup full of fresh produce parked just a block from the house. Rental car was not used or needed. Awesome snorkeling in the bay. Found eels, lobsters, octopus, scorpian fish and numerous other sea life. Wouldn't have changed anything about our vacation. Felt very safe on the island. Very friendly people. Wireless internet worked great, but the cable television didn't work all week. Power only went out one day I think. Filtered water setup worked great...Liz made herself readily available if needed. Felt right at home at Half Moon Bay House. Thanks for sharing your lovely home! Laura

Owner response:The backup generator was installed that week, and they cut off the cable TV line in the process.

There are seven of us enjoying your piece of paradise. It's been fantastic being located so close to the dive outfit we chose, Native Sons. A great place to kick back and relax after diving all morning. We've spent a lot of time out on the patio just sunning, snacking and enjoying one anothers company. The house is perfect for when we're all together, and yet offers each of us plenty of privacy as well. And it has all the conveniences and allows us to dine in our out--whatever strikes our fancy at that time. Thank you so much for sharing this tropical haven; lovely indeed.

One of my best vacations. Great beach, snorkeling, food, and way friendly locals. The house was wonderful with fantastic views, sunsets, and the avaiability of the bay and town a few steps away. Possibly one of the best locations on the island, secluded but still in the middle of all the activity. Thanks for a great time.

Just returned from a 2 week stay at The Halfmoon Bay house. The house is the best on the island! Pure luxury.. Roatan Life did a great job to accomodate and make our stay very easily, from stocking groceries to recommending restaurants. This is definately the snorkel and dive capital of the world! Even with the island power outages, it was a great holiday.

I had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful Home for my short stay on Roatan. All though it was not completly furnished it was a very nice surprise. The floors and wood work are exquisite as is the tile work. The view from the balanconies are the best on the West end. The shore diving and snorkeling from the House was unbelivable. It was like being in a underwater nursery. Everything I saw was so new and untouched. The corals were prestine and the amount of fish life was amazing. You will love your stay here.
