Keywords: Beachfront Home
One of a few beachfront properties in Playa Grande. Quiet area, tropical gardens, and some of the best surfing in Costa Rica, is right out the front door. Guests love the local art and sculptures that decorate the house. We recently completed the addition of a master bedroom suite with bath. It is an incredible addition to the house - the beautiful, handcrafted woodwork is truly unique. Prices are flexible with the season.
Surf school, market and three restaurants are within walking distance. The beach is protected for the nesting of the Giant Leatherback Sea Turtles from October through April - a must see. The beach is open year around during the day, but during nesting season, you are required to be with a tour guide to be on the beach after dark. Take early morning beach walks and you may be surprised by turtles hatching and making their way to the ocean. The house is located in Palm Beach Estates - a quiet, private community. It's common to see howler monkeys eating in the trees in front of the house, iguanas sunning and feeding, and numerous birds as well. The giant sea turtles frequently nest on the beach right in front of the house. It's a laid back, peaceful setting, where you'll be surrounded by nature and it's wonders. This is a place for nature lovers. You'll see a gecko or two at night in the house, the purple and orange sand crabs like to wander in and head for the shower. Not to be feared - these are gentle creatures, and if they bother you, just sweep them out the door. For most, this is a delightful part of the magic of Costa Rica.
It's a perfect place to relax and unwind from the pressures at home. If you're wanting a more active tourist scene, Tamarindo Beach is just a short, boat-taxi ride across the estuary, where you can find all the amenities of any tourist or resort area. Our daughter and son-law live in the guest house behind the property and are happy to offer advise and support to help you enjoy your stay.

Playa Grande Beachfront House
Year Purchased: 2004
Why the Owner Chose Playa Grande
We are beach lovers who have been regular visitors to Costa Rica since 1980. We love the country and the people and have many good "Tico" friends in the area. This is the second home that we have owned in the country. We chose Playa Grande because it is still laid back and not inundated with tourists. We are nature lovers and the fact that Playa Grande is a nesting area for the leatherback turtles was a big draw. We also prefer the drier climate of Guanacaste to other more humid beaches in the country.
The Unique Benefits at this House
For me, Costa Rica is one of the most magical places on earth. It is the simple things that I find so magical. I love to go out to the beach at night with a beach towel. I spread it out, lay down and just gaze at the incredible sky. You've never seen so many stars! I love the walks I take down simple trails where I have learned to "listen". The sounds of nature are incredible at our home in Playa Grande. You'll hear a dozen different birds singing before you ever see them. If you follow the sound, you'll be delighted to discover the creature who's making it. Laying in the hammock, I've had blue jays come eat out of my hand. An iguana sunning himself on the roof, the swarms of dragon flies that occasion the beach, the baby turtles hatching, monkeys grazing in the trees in front of the house, displaying their complex social behavior openly for you to observe, a pair of geckos mating on the ceiling in our living room, then falling in their ecstasy - these simple things are what make our Playa Grande home special to me. The area now has all the comforts of home, but nature is still alive and well in Playa Grande. For me, this is where I nourish my soul.
