My sister, mom, and I spent our vacation here. We decided it was the best vacation we have ever had. We absolutely enjoyed the beach. Every evening we had dinner on the deck, and watched the beautiful sunsets. In the morning we sat, had coffee, and watched the dolphins swim by. The home was clean, and so comfortable. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.
Owner response:Yesterday the dolphins were right out front of ShipWatch Cottage and really put on a show, mothers and baby dolphins jumping out of the water, it was spectacular. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will come back soon.

Quiet get away

Cottage is great for a quiet get away. Negatives: Pool shouldnt be advertised with house becuase it it next to the other property. We had to clean the house upon ariving. Hair was in sink, sand on floor and it was odd that we were told to wash the linens upon leaving (per guest book). Early check out makes it to where we had to start at 7 am to wash linens. Wonderful queit sunrise/sunset walks on the beach. I will go again but will bring cleaning products with me. House did smell like cigg smoke also.
Owner response:We always have our home professionally cleaned between rentals, including washing sheets, towels, etc. I think originally we requested that the laundry be done, but that is not necessary as we have a cleaning fee. I will replace those prior nstructions immediately, as our maid does all of the laundry, cleaning, etc. We also have a no-smoking policy, but of course we cannot totally enforce a no-smoking or no-pet policy. Our cottage is very comfortable, wonderfully situated right on the Gulf of Mexico, with spectacular views of the sunsets, and we know you will enjoy it! Our pool is small but it is located right on our property. If at any time our rentors have any questions or problems we always take care of them immediately, we are just a phone call away! We hope you will visit ShipWatch Cottage soon. Thanks, Barbara Withers

Shipwatch Cottage- A little misleading and not very clean. Alligator point beach was wonderful!

We arrived at Shipwatch cottage and the first thing I noticed is how close the two houses are on either side. This was a little surprising, given the fact that the photos do not really show this. My husband and I were excited about the pool, which the owner had said would be reserved exclusively for our use. The problem with this was that the pool (much smaller than appeared in pictures) wasn't even situated behind our rental. It was behind the rental next door (which was occupied) and 10 feet from the pool was a screened in porch of the owner's other rental property. Very little privacy even if you did want to use the pool. I guess overall I felt the photos were a little deceptive. Going up and down the stairs to get to the kitchen and living room constantly did get us our exercise. The only downsides were the pool and misleading photos, the TVs (extremely small and two were very old) and the front door, which looked like it had been kicked in. It was very hard to lock and unlock and did not seem very secure. The master bath shower did not drain very well and there was black mold around the grout. That was gross so we used the other, cleaner bathroom. One last thing to note- the owner's policies said that you must wash and fold all linens before leaving, as this was not a normal amenity and they would not do it for you. I have never been to a rental that did not provide sheets & towels, so I don't see where this is not normal. I also don't like having to rely on the previous renters to wash & clean everything. I wish we had read this before sleeping on the sheets that we thought were clean the first night.Other than that, the beach was wonderful. Starfish were everywhere in the tide pools and we collected some amazing shells. We visited Wakulla Springs for a boat tour and Apalachicola for some shopping. Nothing is close by so be prepared to drive. (Which we were.) Don't go to the closest grocery store, the Big Top, drive the opposite way to Carrabelle and go to the IGA. It is much cleaner, bigger, and better in general. Angelo's Seafood is close by and is pretty good food, but a little overpriced. We also drove to Port St. Joe and visited a few antique stores and ate lunch at the marina. Nothing really extraordinary. We did stop at Bill's Seahorse Antiques on the way to Carrabelle, where I bought a painting. Bill has tons of old light fixtures that he has refurbished and they are beautiful. Definitely the place to go for some antique lighting.
Owner response:We furnish all linens and towels, and always have, and our maid service launders all sheets, towels, etc. after every rental. We also thoroughly clean all showers, bathrooms etc. and make every effort to respond to any issues if brought to our attention during your stay. We own 150 front feet right on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico with 2 cottages, ShipWatch Cottage with 50 front ft. and Withers Heights with 100 front ft. The small but perfectly delightful and adequate pool is available to both beach front houses as well as our Pool House, but rarely is there a conflict as most people spend their time on the beach. We also have a 500' dock on the bay side of the road for fishing, boating and swimming.

Shipwatch is a great escape. Fishing in the bay, watching the dolphins from the deck, or building Sand Mansions with my wife and daughters. Loved every minute of it. thanks
