Welcome Travelers!
Simple yet well-crafted, hand-painted floors and lots of glass, the recently completed Mango House is perched on the 1950's lava flow and located on the same 11 acre organic farm as Your Hawaiian Retreat and The Avocado Tree House. Every morning, we will deliver Kona Coffee or tea, fresh fruit and whole grain bread with raw Hawaiian honey to your door. This is a great place for the adventurous as the coast is moments away. Quaint Pahoa town, six miles away, has many good eateries, natural food store, grocery store, churches and farmers markets. Located just 25 miles south of Hilo, home of our major airport and the University of Hawaii. We grow our own(vegetables), milk the goats and feed the chickens...life on the farm ...is good. Come see for yourself.
Only the young at heart are welcome.
Aloha,
the lovely Elvira

This cottage (and farm) has more then meets the eye! First, we were greeted warmly by the owners who are wonderful caring people, they made our stay a lot more then just a place to sleep for a couple of nights, and went well beyond anything that we could even expect. They always took the time to answer our local questions, point us in the right direction to make the most of our trip, offer all kinds of help, and so many little surprises to make our days feel even more like being in paradise, we didn't want to leave! The cottage itself was charming, with a big lofty room upstairs comfortably accessories, again lots of little extras here and there to make it extra special, and a full glass wall/patio that offers a gorgeous view! Big wrap "almost" around porch with very comfortable chairs to take it all in too! The grounds are amazingly quiet except for the beautiful sounds of birds in the morning, and the frogs once the sun is down (but not loud enough at the cottage to keep you from sleeping). Our experience there was a perfect meeting of great comfort meets environmentally conscious living! The farm is self-sustainable, from rain water to solar power, and amazing organic food offered with your stay. The only place we stayed at on the island that we could compost! And it's a great mark to say that our teenage boys, who were concerned about having no t.v. for a few days, totally loved it as much as we did, and found themselves keeping busy playing games like they hadn't since they were littler. As for the area, we were close to all kinds of beautiful yet different types of natural paradises, from tide pools full of corals and exotic fish (great snorkeling) to warm springs, black sand beaches, the Lava Tree State Park, if you're a strong hiker, that's the closest area to where the lava is flowing right now, and of course, just a hop away from the volcano. There is so much more to say about this wonderful area, but all I'll add is that having my time back, I would have spent more time there, there is so much to do, so much to see, we enjoyed it tremendously, and our stay at Elvira's cottage was the best we spent on the whole island. Thanks Elvira and Hugh for an unforgettable experience!!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing, adventure seekers.
