I stayed at this property for a week with my husband, sister-in law, and our 2-year old son. It was perfect! The owners were very helpful and responsive, the exterior and interior were beautiful. The interior was immaculate, and the furnishings were comfortable and nicely done. I would highly recommend this place to anyone interested in staying in the Monterey/Carmel area!

We rented this amazing home for the weekend with some friends and had an unbelievable stay in the main house plus the guest house. Everyone was pleasantly surprised at the extreme comfort of the beds. The pictures, though amazing, still don't do this quaint country compound its due justice. The main house is breathtaking with high wood beam ceilings, and the decor is modern and every piece has a specific artistic intention. One of the most fun things is the owners' love of light fixtures, which are cleverly placed around the home. The ktichen had everything we needed to cook lovely meals. The surrounding grounds beg you to take a hike to see the view. Even just a neighborhood walk boasts the true beauty of California with tons of wildlife; we saw several deer families and bunnies. The owners were extremely nice as well. I was also surprised at the pretty, and very short drive to Monterey proper. We would definitely stay here again! You won't be disappointed!

I can't say enough good things about this property. After browsing tons of rentals and ideas of where our next can vacation was gonna be, this beautiful house was in the top three choices and Vicki and Robert were nothing but personable, professional and prompt with everything from the initial contact made to reserving the dates we wanted to meeting us for our stay. My family and I def are hoping to rent Vicki and Roberts beautiful mountain home again sometime in the near future. We booked 5 days and they sure were a blast. We regretted not staying longer. One of my kids asked if we could live there! It is a great house for a family as well as a getaway for a group of friends. The interior and exterior of the house is well kept with beautiful landscaping and art all around. The kitchen was perfect for us to cook our family meals and we even utilized the bbq.Kids couldn't get enough of the hot tub and library of books to browse thru and movies to watch in the upper bedroom with loft. It was nice to be able to have plenty of spaces to go whether sitting and reading or watching tv or even to have a cup of coffee on the front porch in the morning. We used the firepit at night to sit and talk and relax and it was fun seeing all the different animals.that come thru to visit.Kids loved that there was so much wildlife and serenity all while still in the comforts of a city like home. One of my kids accidentally left his video game case behind after we departed to go home.Vicki was ever so kind toook for it, find it and send it back to us via mail promptly. Everything is about ten mins away to do which is perfect because you can go see everything from Big Sur to Pebble Beach to Monterey Fishermans Wharf to Carmel shopping and beach which is what we did. After staying here we may never consider a hotel for a family trip again.Vicki and Robert thank you so much for your kind hospitality. This unforgettable trip was well worth it and we hope to see you again.

After planning a location for our work retreat was canceled two days before departure (though A Great Place to Stay) I found myself stressing out as those reservations were made in June. I decided to check out VRBO rentals and work directly with owners to avoid the inconvenience of a middle man. Best decision ever made. Vicki returned our call in less than thirty minutes after leaving a message and was happy to fit us in last minute. All I can say is sometimes things happen for a reason. Vicki was pleasant to work with and made the reservation process simple. The only thing that topped this was actually meeting Vicki and Robert in person upon arriving to the site. They graciously greeted our group, showed us around the beautiful property, offered availability if needed, and gave us suggestions for nearby stores for grocery shopping. Our group stayed in both the main house and guest house occupying the full space. Although only a group of 4, we enjoy our privacy and definitely had more than enough locations other than our rooms to retreat to when wanted. Several lounge spaces available in the interior and exterior locations of the grounds. The hot-tub was especially nice at night as a relaxation space. Although nobody else decided to join me, I loved the morning hikes on the trail on the property. Definitely somewhere I would love to stay again. Working with pleasant, professional, honest, and accommodating people is an experience that I would welcome again. Your rental home is definitely a gem and a true retreat. Vicki and Rob thank you again so much! Take care, Emily and co-workers.

This is our first time renting on VRBO and to be honest, we were quite skeptical about the house since we didn’t know what to expect. Once we arrived at the house and opened the door we were quite pleased (the pictures really don’t do it justice, it’s even nicer). My father who is very finicky about cleanliness felt very comfortable, like being at home. The landscape and house are very well laid out, with the house nestled between two hillsides with terraced wood decks connecting different levels. The house has a great open feeling, well decorated and spacious with high ceilings. The location is very quiet and calm, away from the hustle and bustle of Monterey but in close proximity to the main attractions of the area. We enjoyed spending time in the hot tub, visiting around the fire pit or just relaxing in the house in front of the fireplace. The children loved the house and couldn’t wait to get back from our daily outings to get back and play together. We were having such a great time we stayed an extra night, luckily it was available. Vicki and Robert were a pleasure to work with and they are very friendly and helpful. We will definitely consider staying here again if we are in the area

We stayed for four nights at the end of June 2011. Although we have rented through VRBO for over 10 years, this was one of the nicest houses we have ever rented. Moreover, the grounds are beautiful and the entire property is incredibly well kept. There were three of us (husband/wife and 22 year old daughter) Vicki was very gracious and accommodating as our hosts yet were not intrusive in any way. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this property. The house is about 15-20 minutes from Monterey, but that was really no big deal as it is an easy drive. It is very quiet and peaceful. The only improvement we would suggest is having the interest router at the main rental property rather than the guest house as the signal is weak (at the main house). In summary, our highest recommendation!

Our family vacation plans revolved around exploring Monterey Bay, but quickly turned into "Lets get back to the house and relax!" We were there for three days wishing they would turn into a week. The beauty and attention to detail greatly enhanced our experience there. The adults and children equally enjoyed the interior as much as the patios/jacuzzi. Our time there was definitely too short. Staying in could have been a vacation in itself. Thank you Vicki and Robert for providing such a wonderful rental.

We enjoyed our stay at your Monterey House and Guest House. Thank you for letting us use the bedroom and bath in the guest house. Even though we were very busy with family activities over the weekend, we thoroughly enjoyed your house when we were there. All of us enjoyed the hot tub and we did sit around the fire pit one evening - lovely. It is so much more enjoyable for us to be together at a house then off in separate hotel rooms, and your house has so many great seating areas.

We have rented many houses from VRBO, and this one is the best we've ever stayed in. The location is private yet expansive, and the main house + guest house arrangement allows for very comfortable living even with a big group. The main hot tub is huge, new, and clean. And the tasteful lighting, art, and furnishings put this house a big step ahead of the pack in terms of style. We were particularly fond of the orange spiral staircase. The hosts are nearby and very friendly but not at all intrusive. They even set up a Christmas tree for us! Recommended for groups or families looking for a stylish / indulgent getaway.

Three families (9 people) shared the 2 houses for the Thanksgiving Holiday. It was great! The house had everything we needed, and then some. The number of spices/herbs was far more than other homes we have rented. The grounds are lovely and well-kept and with the number of patios (one w/ a heater) was conductive to outside activities. The homes were decorated beautifully, and there was a large selection of books/movies to choose from on the one day it rained and kept us indoors. The property is within driving distance of Monterey and surrounding areas, as well as wineries. And, yet it is far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be a quiet retreat.

We opened the door to reveal the splendor and warmth of an incredibly beautiful and artistic home. Our stay was relaxing and inspiring. The proximity of the Monterey Penisula allowed us to have various excursions yet return to the serenity and peacefulness of this lovely property. We loved the spa and the firepit and the hike we took from the house led us to breathtaking vistas of the ocean and the entire Salinas Valley. Apparently, numerous rabbits and quail also enjoyed the view! Vicki was warm, informative, enthusiastic and made us feel right at home. We look forward to returning sometime in the future and would highly recommend this wonderful home.

For those looking for a peaceful setting in a modern home with a ton of European flair, this is your place. It is located approximately 15 miles from both Monterey and Carmel, making it a perfect central place to the area's many attractions. And, since the home is inland, you won't get socked in with fog that can stay throughout the day in places closer to the coast! We loved all the wonderful lights throughout the house, allowing one to create just the right ambience, whether sipping wine with friends or relaxing with a book. Also, since the property is completely fenced in, the kids could run around freely without worry they would wander off.

We enjoyed our visit and were able to unwind. The home is beautiful and well suited to large families because of it has ample areas to congregate, including a fabulous kitchen, as well as many separate places to retreat for privacy. It was clean, the linens were ample and high quality. We spent our time day tripping to nearby Monterey, and regretted not booking the house for another couple of days so we could spend more time enjoying the house, in particular the lovely outside spaces. We had two small children with us, and the home was suitable for them once we blocked off the spiral staircase. Written by my 7 year old daughter: It is a happy time to spend with your family. It was a nice time.My 2 favorite spotes were the hot tub, kids play room also.

We had the pleasure of staying in the house during the Big Sur Marathon weekend. The location was ideal for us, not right in the city, private and secluded, a great place to relax and unwind. We took advantage of everything this beautiful house has to offer and would highly recommend it. We had three couples in our group and the house accommodated all of us, however the library "room" is not private so be sure to really enjoy the group you are with or rent the second one bedroom unit if privacy is an issue.

In February we had the privlege of spending our business retreat in the beautiful Monterey Bay House. I've stayed in many rental homes over the years for either personal family gatherings or business meetings and I can truely say that this was an extraordinary experience. There is beauty expressed in every corner of the home and grounds. There were seven of us and each had a comfortable place for sleeping in addition to excellent space for our business meetings. The kitchen is spacious and the hot tubs are wonderful as is the work out room. The home is appointed with quality furnishings, fabulous art and lighting, fun outside areas, excellent TV and sound systems and has beautiful, quiet surroundings. Vicky met us when we arrived, gave us a tour and was available to us if we needed her during our stay. The home is only minutes away from wonderful restaurants and stores and a short drive to Carmel, Monterey and Pacific Grove. This get-away retreat is truely a treasure that you can only appreciate if you experience it. We will definitely go back!

We had the pleasure of staying at this house for a 3 day weekend in late February to celebrate my husband's birthday. We came with a few friends and our 1 year old. We had a wonderful time relaxing at the house, walking in the hills and taking trips to Monterey and Point Lobos. The house fits so well into it surroundings. It was amazing both inside and out and you can't beat the access to the rolling hills, just walk out the door and start hiking. I highly recommend this place!

Our family stayed here for a weekend to celebrate a wedding anniversary and birthday. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. The home is beautiful and the fireplaces kept it fabulously warm and comfortable. We enjoyed the patio in the morning sun and the ability to walk right out the door for a hike in the surrounding hills. Robert and Vicki were very welcoming and helpful with information. They responded very quickly to initial inquiries which made the rental process go very smoothly.

Thank you so much for your hospitality. We had a wonderful Christmas. The weather was beautiful, and the house was beautifully decorated for the holidays. We cooked lots of great meals; thank you so much for taking the time to get us all the kitchen supplies we needed. The space worked well for the six of us (three couples and one baby), with comfortable seating in the living room and entertainment areas. We also enjoyed the outdoor areas -- the hot tubs, decks, propane heating, and views of the hills around. We especially enjoyed the birds, including the wrentits (nesting, perhaps?) in the hedge by the car park, two California thrushes, Anna's hummingbird, hermit thrush, and fox sparrows, among others. Thanks for sharing this special spot with us.

Our visit was from November 13 to November 17, 2009. This trip was to celebrate my Husband's "75th" birthday, with our family of three generations. Oh my God.... when we arrived at this magnificent setting and saw the vacation home, we looked at each other and said, "what must it be like inside"?...... When we walked through the front door, we gasped. The art works, the furnishings, and the ambience were unbelievable. But, the most exciting room was the gourmet kitchen. The separate guest house was used by our grandson and his new bride. It gave them the privacy they would like, but yet we were close enough. We cooked breakfast and dinner every night because we thought, "we cannot beat this anywhere, so why go out", and the kitchen was so well equipped it was a delight to prepare meals. My son, who is a gourmet chef in the rough, thought he was in heaven. The proximity of the house being close to town, but not too close was great. To wake up in the morning to the sounds of nature was a dream. We were able to see at least 12 deer during our stay. Vicki and Robert were wonderful. They were fun and made us feel like long lost friends who had come for a visit. We only wished we lived closer so we could become real friends. Would we recommend this rental, YOU BET, Would we do it again, YOU BET. We will use VRBO again. Such a wonderful place of peace. Father/Mother, Son/Wife, Grandson/Wife spent 11/13-17/09 in this quiet sanctuary for dad's 75th birthday. We had such a great time. It is so peaceful and lovely. The stars at night are many and they seems so close that you feel you can reach out and grab one. Vicki, Robert and their daughter are so warm and kind and truly want to make sure you enjoy your stay. The house and guest house are filled with fun are, comfy furniture and beds that put an insomniac right to sleep. It's out of the way, yet close enough to enjoy the aquarium, all of Monterey and Carmel and taste the best wines CA has to offer. We hope to come back and difinitely encourge you to stay and rid yourself of the world's stresses.

My book club (7 members including me) have started an annual "away" weekend where we discuss books (or not). This home and guest house were beyond our highest expectations. Initially we were going to take advantage of the things to do in the surrounding area, but it was such a fabulous place we never left, except for a walk/hike in the hills. We sat in the sun like happy cats, to read and talk, ate good food that we prepared in the fully appointed kitchen, and drank some very delicious wine (ours and the bottle that was placed on the kitchen counter to welcome us). Vicki and Robert were great, and I plan to bring my husband back for our anniversay.

We stayed at this beautiful home for two nights at the end of June. The photos and guest comments were what drew us to the site, but I must say it went beyond our expectations! My husband just retired after teaching for 36 years, and we wanted to celebrate the kick off to his "endless summer" with our children and grandchildren. There were 7 adults and 3 small children. The house provided us with plenty of space to enjoy each other's company and still have some private space. We were happy that we added the guest cottage space. It was like staying at a 5-star hotel with all the luxurious amenities: thick towels, lush bedding, two spas... The owners really have an eye for colors, artwork, special lighting features, and interior design. We loved all the little areas set up for outside visiting--tables, chairs, heat lamps. The location was ideal, too. Close enough to Monterey (and its world-class aquarium), but we felt we were in the country--away from the fog! This is an ideal setting for connecting with friends and family. The kitchen is so well-equipped and the dining area provided plenty of space for family- style dining. This was greatly appreciated as restaurants aren't fun for small children! We had a wonderful time. We would highly recommend this property to our friends, and hope to return, and next time stay longer!

We were looking for a place to relax with room for six adults a preschooler and a toddler. The Monterey houses were perfect. Using both the guest house and the main house gave us room to mingle and room to get away. There was plenty of space for everyone to gather for a meal that was easy to prepare with the on hand pantry goods. The complimentary bottle of wine for our first night was appreciated. We enjoyed the day trips to the nearby wineries and the evenings in the hot tubs. Having stayed at a variety of rentals, I really appreciated having cookware, dishes, and overall décor that was considerably better than the normal rental accommodations. We truly appreciated our stay and would be pleased to return for another visit.

Highly recommended, without reservation. Ideal set up for a vacation retreat. We had the guest house for ourselves while our 5 other guests (Brother, sister-in-law, niece, nephew, Dad) stayed in the main house. The houses are very modern, filled with designer accents, yet maintain a relaxed feel. Perfect for trips to the Monterey Bay aquarium, Big Sur, Point Lobos, and we loved the Roaring Camp steam engine railroad in Felton. If you enjoy sun over fog, the location is perfect. We relished exploring the coast in the morning and afternoon, then returning home for homemade meals/BBQ and a dip in the hot tub. Very quiet and relaxing.

Just saying 'positive' doesn't do justice to the truly amazing time we had here. Two busy UK academics, not enough time, and, as we drive up to the gate, we suddenly found ourselves in the perfect home - stylish, fun and with fantastic weather. An easy drive to the coast for the wildlife (and the fog) but back at the end of the trip for sun (it's always sunny, it seems, in the Salinas valley) and wine on the desk. We really appreciated the wireless connection (once a workaholic, always...) and especially the hot tubs - starting or ending the day in a wonderful tub, with deer ambling by, or the hysterically funny and charming quail marshalling themselves forward. I spent hours trying to photograph hummingbirds! Everything we needed was here, and we enjoyed taking time to cook for ourselves, as much as eating at lots of fantastic places nearby. The style of the home is just captivating, and it is a short climb to excellent trails along the ridge above the home. Vicki, Robert and Kaelyn made us feel so welcome, and so comfortable. We went home fully reconnected, relaxed and content. The two weeks we spent here flew by, but slowly, if that makes sense. Highly, highly recommended!

2/29 – 3/4/2008We enjoyed a very relaxing break in Vicki and Robert’s beautiful home. The location was excellent, quite secluded, but leading onto great hiking trails into the hills. The house was extremely well appointed and we could have cooked a banquet there if we had felt energetic enough. The guest house was very pretty with its own patio and hot tub. We ate out successfully at several of the places recommended by Vicki. All in all, a wonderful experience.

My family spent the weekend at the main guest house for my birthday in February of this year. We had a wonderful time there even though it was raining for the most part. The house is so nicely decorated and enjoyable that we basically stayed at the house for most of the time. My parents enjoyed the hot tub tremendously and I spent most of my time reading books in front of the fireplace. I highly recommend this place and I think you'll enjoy it too.

We loved our home away from home. Set in the woods it has charm, comfort and plenty of space for nine. We, children and grandchildren, came to Monterrey Bay to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Staying in such a beautiful home added to this festive occasion. After a day of walking the beach in Carmel and a visit to the Monterrey aquarium, we eagerly anticipated a return to this delightful house and waiting hot tubs. As my husband and I relaxed in our own private spa, we stayed in the guest house, and watched the deer silhouetted against the moon we knew we had chosen the perfect vacation home.

Great property. The house is gorgeous, as is the setting. The owners were very accommodating to our family. We had a lovely week. The amenities on this property were fabulous, from the movie selection to the hot tub, to the WiFi. Thanks so much for a great week.

We had a wonderful Christmas at this beautiful house. We (8 adults and 2 babies) rented both the main house and the guest house and both were just gorgeous. It was the first Christmas with the new additions to the family and it was the perfect special place to spend the holiday. Thank you to Vicki, Robert and Kaelyn for their hospitality.

My husband and I spent a four day weekend in the guest house and enjoyed every moment of it. The hike up the little ridge was beautiful - all the deer! Speaking of, we woke one morning and watched from bed as six deer strolled right by the window and deck. On a clear night, we star gazed from the hottub and enjoyed being away from the stress and busy-ness of everyday life. It was the perfect place to reconnect as a couple. If you are debating between this vacation rental or an overpriced hotel in Monterey or Carmel, I highly suggest you enjoy the scenery, wildlife, and hospitality Vicki and Robert have to offer in their little piece of paradise. We certainly plan on coming back!

What a great place to spend our Thanksgiving family gathering! The perfect kitchen for my three gourmet chef sons to prepare a fabulous five course meal. Hearing deer graze behind you (and watching Li'l Bit decide whether to attack or leave them alone) as you relax on a deck reading a book on a beautiful day - awesome! (Ahhh, it's the little things...) A beautiful home and guest house and a most relaxing setting for "down time" with most gracious hosts. Thanks for the memories! We arranged for a large group of long time friends to run together in the Big Sur half marathon on Monterey Bay. We (eleven) of us stayed at Robert and Vicki's main house and guest house. The two houses are spectacular! They are both warm and inviting with comfortable furnishings and beautiful lighting and artwork. The houses are custom designed and so much thought and personality has been put into the interior decor. And the outside living areas are just breath taking. There are so many decks and places to sit and relax outside. Coming from the city, we were all just in awe of all of the wildlife we encountered there! It was really amazing! In addition to all that, . Robert and Vicki were also so genuinely hospitable and extraordinary. We are already talking about a return trip next year!!!! IF YOUR GOING TO MONTEREY, THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY!!!!

We just returned from spending four days at Robert and Vickie's wonderful home with some dear friends. This home does not feel like "A RENTAL". Instead we all felt that we were staying in someone's personal home where great care and thought were put into every aspect of the home for comfort and enjoyment. The wonderful furnishings, artwork and lighting were fantastic. Enough room to read a book quietly in one area of the house or join the rest of the gang in the kitchen/greatroom area to cook and socialize. The kitchen is stocked with spices and all the cooking implements you need for dining at the house. Thumbs up all the way!

What a wonderful setting to bring family together! We rented both houses for our 3 generation family vacation, and found they provided the perfect balance of relaxed family time with plenty of personal space. The houses are beautiful - perfectly integrated with the gorgeous natural environment - the main house felt like a luxurious treehouse nestled in the forest. There are so many relaxing places to sit and soak in the views outside - my husband commented that we would have to stay an extra week just so he could sit outside and enjoy his morning coffee in each one. And the extensive stretch of landings and porches surrounding both houses was enough to keep our two-year-old entertained for hours - no small feat! The deer and hummingbirds were another daily treat, and our daughter is still talking about Little Bit (the property's remarkably tolerant resident cat) a week later. Inside, the houses are well equipped with anything you could possibly need, and the huge selection of reading material and DVDs guarantees something for everyone. The Lamberts could not have been more helpful, with excellent communication throughout the rental experience and genuine hospitality. Thank you Vicki and Robert for a wonderful experience - we hope to be back soon!

Our stay at the Lambert's Monterey House was great. Robert and Vicki are so nice and treated us like long-time friends from the moment we arrived. A large bowl of fruit and frest-cut flowers welcomed us to a house that was exactly as advertised. We had everything we needed and more. The wild animals roaming about were an added treat. Just outside our private gate were deer, quail, wild turkeys and we even saw a family of fox one evening. It was awesome! The big hot tub was especially nice and the special lighting throughout the house was a unique touch, which Vicki takes pride in presenting. The area is quiet and peaceful and we felt completely safe leaving the doors to the house unlocked. Our trip to the Coast was very special because of this place. If we ever get back to the area, we will definitely call Vicki and Robert first. Thanks again for a special week. (Hint: Ask them to explain the "local special" - awesome dinner at a huge savings).
