"A Place In Paradise" is located on a lush, tropical, mountainside with gorgeous, ocean views overlooking Dorothea Beach and its outlying islands of Inner and Outer Brass. You can hear the waves!
This home is the only vacation rental on this 1 acre property. It is filled with flowering tropical plants and fruit trees. We have coconut, mango, soursop, banana, avocado, lime, cashew trees as well as poor man's orchids, African tulip trees, flamboyant and huge palms on this property.
Your privacy is assured in this safe, serene and lush location.
The kitchen is full sized. It has with an electric stove with oven and full-sized refrigerator. There is a coffeemaker, microwave, blender and toaster for your convenience. It has all silverware, glassware, dishware, bake-ware, pots, pans and cooking utensils, should you feel like dining at home.
There is a BBQ grill and outdoor furniture such as a chaise lounge, table and chairs for lounging on the deck. A favorite end of day past-time is dining "Al fresco" while sipping a tasty, tropical, frozen drink and watching the colors of the sky and ocean change as dusk settles in.
The living room is tastefully furnished with a rattan sofa and loveseat in a colorful, tropical print.
There is a Flat Screen TV with Satellite Dish TV with 250 Channels plus movie channels , DVD player, DVD's, books and playing cards and Broadband Internet Service.
There is a king-sized bed in the separate bedroom with comfy pillows. There is an ample amount of drawer and closet space in the bedroom. There are beautiful ocean views from every window. There are plenty of hangers, an iron and small ironing board should you need them. There are laundry facilities available for your use on the same deck level. There are ceiling and walls fans throughout to enhance our cool tropical breezes.
We also provide a hair dryer and an alarm clock should you need them.
There is a large diesel generator with an auto transfer switch so that when the power goes off, you still have power for the apartment!
Our winters can be chilly so you will want to pack a light sweater or jacket for the evenings.
We are just minutes from Hull Bay Beach if you feel like a "quick dip," or snorkel, a cold drink, or a bite to eat. There are 3 restaurants in the immediate area that serve very good meals in a casual atmosphere if you are to tired from a fun-filled day in the sun to travel far.
There are many species of birds to view from your private deck, including emerald hummingbirds, yellow-breasted, banana-quits, (aka sugar birds named for their propensity to eat sugar), flocks of green parakeets, red-tail hawks, red-throated pigeons and morning doves, just to name a few.
We provide beach towels, beach chairs, beach bags and a cooler for your use.
We are just minutes away from Mountain Top with its tasty frozen drinks and panoramic views, world famous, mile long, Magen's Bay Beach, Mahogany Run Golf Course with its famous Devil's Triangle course, Coral World Marine Park and our beautiful, historic town of Charlotte Amalie with "duty free shopping." Take your car on the ferry barge over to St. John to spend the day exploring the National Park and all their lovely beaches!
There are a wide variety of restaurants, sailing, diving, kayaking and fishing trips and other exciting excursions from which to choose. We are happy to recommend our favorites.
While travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands does not require a passport,
excursion trips to the British Virgin Islands which are just a ferry ride away, do require passports. Be sure to bring yours.
A rental car is a must here and we are happy to refer you to the agency that the majority of our guests use or we can help you with other arrangements.

If you have a late arrival we are happy to pick up a dinner and breakfast supplies if your arrival is too late to be accommodated by dinner reservations or a trip to the grocery store. We meet you at the airport upon your arrival to insure a stress free arrival to your vacation destination.

50% deposit required for confirmation. Balance due 30 days prior to arrival.

I am a 12th generation Virgin islander who knows the islands very well after spending many years as a charter yacht captain taking guests out on their seafaring vacations. I now making my living as a licensed real estate agent.
Many of my guests have just moved to the island and stay here while I help them find long term housing or their dream property to purchase.
I enjoy giving recommendations on the best places to dine or any activities that may interest my guests. I love where I live and the beauty and serenity of our location with its gorgeous views, sounds of the ocean from the bay below and the birds songs throughout the day. Really consideration just kept coming to mind - everything was so clean and organized and new. Nothing junky about this place at all! I've stayed all over the island and this place rates one of the highest based on hospitality, ease of access to the site, beautiful views. The owner really went to a lot of trouble to make this space cute, live-able and well-stocked with everything you need for a perfect get away! Thank you! We'll be back!

A Super Honeymoon

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at A Place in Paradise which was a charming vacation rental. Our hostess, Alana, met us at the airport and took us to a nearby supermarket to stock up on immediate supplies, then led us to our "home away from home" for the next 2 weeks. She then showed us the way down to Dorothea Beach below the property and took us over to Hull Bay for a swim before sunset. She showed us where the nearby restaurants were and even had menus so we could choose where we wanted to dine. It really was like being home except in a lush tropical setting with wild parakeets flying by. It had everything we needed for our stay. What views! We could listen to the waves at night! It was the perfect spot. We couldn't have asked for more. Alana was available if we had questions about the island or the various day trips and gave us wonderful recommendations for those activities that interested us but gave us plenty of privacy. All in all, a wonderful place to spend a honeymoon. We can't wait to celebrate our 1st anniversary! You guessed it. We will be back! All the best, Linda & Rafe

My husband had I had a wonderful time thanks to Alana and her lovely property. The rental was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed (and more) for a 10 day vacation. A Place in Paradise was simply charming. The views were to die for! It was the best vacation we have ever had!!!! We thank our hostess for all the great recommendations for day and nightime activities, great restaurants and lovely beaches, sailing, kayaking and diving trips and places to shop. We enjoyed our evening ritual of frozen drinks on the deck, watching the sun go down over the ocean and listening to the quiet, interupted only by the sounds of waves from the bay below and birdsong. Bugs

Although this place is cheap, it's definitely not worth the money if you want to get eaten alive by bugs. The screens on the windows are not properly on allowing bugs to get in & some screens are even duct taped on which is not a suitable way to fix things if you want to rent it out. The owner is very sweet but once we called & left messages about the problem & telling her we were leaving she would not return our phone calls. We had to leave after 2 days because after receiving over 20 bites while sleeping it was not worth staying.
Owner response:I am always easily accessable to my guests should they desire interaction or have any problems as I live on the 1 acre property. It is a short walk, up a flight of stairs, and a knock on the door, to be in contact with me, if there is anything with which I can help my guests. These guests did not contact me about any problem with bugs during the 4 days they were in residence. I would have been happy to do everything in my power to accomodate them as I am willing to do for all my guests. However, there was no mention ofany bugs or any problems during their stay. I was left a voicemail message, after the fact, when they were ready to leave island. I cannot correct a problem, if I am not informed of a problem in a timely manner. I did find a tiny hole in 1 screen which has since been replaced. Some people are happier in a hotel environment. This is the first and only negative review I have had in all the years of renting "A Place In Paradise." I wish these guests all the best for the future.

Could not ask for a better hostess or vacation rental! Our first night on St. Thomas we decided to stay at the fancy shmancy Ritz Carlton. It might seem that a vacation rental would be lacking in comparison, but it was just the opposite! Alana’s place in paradise was just as described… paradise! It was homey and tranquil, but roomy enough for two (one of which is 6’6”). The apartment was fully stocked with everything we needed for a 3 week stay. The only thing we had to provide was our own groceries. Alana was so helpful in giving advice on where to shop, dine, snorkel and just have fun! While staying at the apartment, Alana also helped us to find a long term rental… another place we love and could never have found without her! If you are looking for a comfortable place to stay with wonderful views in an tranquil, yet accessible location, complete with your own personal Tour Guide… than a Place in Paradise is for you (and at a great price)!!

We had an absolutely wonderful time staying here in this condo for one week. Alana was the most caring and helpful host we have ever had. She picked us up from the airport and helped us throughout our stay. We even had thanksgiving dinner with her. She was so sweet and the apartment had everything we needed. It felt like a home away from home. Nice view, convenient location, close to Magens Bay and downtown. We had a blast, we will definitely come again, and Highly recommend others to stay here. Dear Alana. We want to thank you for providing a delightful vacation destination. The apt. was lovely and had all the amenities we required for our 2 week holiday. The great views, the quiet and the privacy were simply sublime and a far cry from staying at a busy, impersonal, resort/hotel. The deck offered us a great way to start the day with spectacular scenery and cool breezes while listening to the birds and the ocean below. The interior of the rental was very nicely furnished, the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and the blender for frozen drinks came in very handy. We really enjoyed the views upon waking from the bedroom windows. Your hospitality was very much appreciated as were all the recommendations for things to do, beaches to visit, sailing tours and restaurants for dining out. On short notice, we were able to book this lovely apartment for a 3 day get-away. It was perfect for us and felt more like "going native" than staying in a busy tourist compound. The apartment was very clean and fresh with a full kitchen with all the small appliances and utensils which would have been handy for a longer stay. The TV didn't get much use as we more often enjoyed the quiet and birdsong (and the abundant mangos) out on the deck with a view of the sea. We were met at the airport and the owner made sure we could find our way on the island's serpentine roadways. We were provided direction to awesome local beaches and reliable neighborhood restaurants. We were also given a recommendation for a sailboat day cruise on which we had an gourmet lunch and were guided to excellent snorkeling spots around neighboring islands. Great trip!
