We returned to Vieques and for our third time to La Solana. It's a little slice of heaven on earth. The large veranda offers sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and the house is immaculate. It's a home away from home, well appointed in every respect from the spacious living areas to the comfortable king sized bed. This villa is situated so that you can drive to the beautiful beaches and other island delights in no time. It truly is a place where you can relax in true Caribbean fashion, whether it is laying in the hammock with a book or rocking on the veranda with a cocktail. The hosts are wonderful, very nice and helpful. It is evident when you are staying at La Solana that they have worked hard to insure you have a wonderful experience. We will return.
Owner response:Dear Diane and Richard, Thank you so much for the fantastic review. It means a lot to us and to future renters.] If you choose to come back in season we will be happy to give you the off season rate and of course a discount should you come back to Vieques during the off season. Wishing you a speedy recovery, a comfortable retirement and a very enjoyable summer. Fond regards, Gerri & Don Wilkins

The house is beautiful everywhere. The beds are very comfortable and everything is very clean. It’s located in a little quiet mountain in Vieques which gives it privacy. The view it’s just perfect and there’s a big hammock where you can lay down and relax looking at the precious view. The beaches are 10minutes away in car so I recommend renting one. In summary the house its perfect and I recommend it to everyone families and couples.

A 3 letter word will describe our stay at La Solona....WOW!! It was exactly as it was advertised and our stay was absolutely perfect! The property was fantastic with amazing panoramic views. We had breakfast every morning on the amazing deck that looked out onto the island and ocean..breath taking. The property came fully stocked with everything you would ever need: full kitchen (pots, pans, appliances, etc) towels, snorkeling gear, beach chairs/umbrellas, TV, DVD's, radio...honestly it has anything you will need. It was very spacious and all 4 of us fit comfortably. I had great communication at all times with the realtor, from the time we inquired about this property to the time we returned back home. She was nice enought to pick us up at the Ferry dock upon our arrival and bring us to pick up the rental car. At which time she gave us a quick tour of Vieques and told us uselful things and where we could find an amazing Panaderia, grocery store and the best areas to snorkel. She was great! Oh and she refunded my security deposit in a timely fashion. I would however suggest renting a car because there isnt anything within walking distance. The Morales grocery store is about 5 minute drive and it seemed we got a outrageous amount of food for $70!! Vieques has amazing beaches and those are just about 5-10 minute drive as well. Esperanza is their downtown area and its just darling! Bellybuttons is a great place to grab a bite and its owned by a cute couple. Leon is the bartendar and he makes the best island drinks around! All this to say that we loved our stay at La Solana and would absolutely without a doubt stay here again!!!

My wife and I stayed at La Solana for a week in early December. Central location on the island. Private, easy to travel to the beaches over the hill to the south. We walked there one morning, about 2 miles on our GPS. Wonderful ocean views. The porch was our hang out, reading, sleeping, eating on the table and chairs provided. Terrific area to be in during the evening hours. We spent a lot of time in the living room after dark when the small mosquitoes were out. The kitchen had more do dads than ours at home...The mattress was outstanding; we got use to the chickens and roosters, this ain't Kansas Dorothy, and thank goodness. Clearly the home is well maintained, and regularly cared for. We would stay here again, and recommend it to others.

La Solana is a stunningly beautiful house that meets the Vieques traveler's every need. The owner has thought of everything from designing a lovely home with a great view from the sprawling front porch to stocking the house with everything you need for a day at the beach to providing a fully-functional kitchen for cooking dinners at home. This is the perfect launching pad to enjoy everything Vieques has to offer--it's just a few minutes drive to "town" (Isabel Segunda), about ten minutes to Esperanza on the south side of the island, and 15 minutes to the amazing beaches in the old Navy base. We loved starting our day to the sounds of the roosters and coffee on the porch looking out at the ocean and the main island (Puerto Rico). It was just as sweet to end the day watching the sunset over the ocean and main island and later rocking in the hammock on this same porch listening to the coqui frogs sing. We lucked out by staying at La Solana--it rained a few days during our week in Vieques and instead of feeling like we were stuck inside with no place to go, we relaxed to the rain outside on the front porch. (What a great giant hammock.) This is a great vacation home for all types at any time of the year in the Caribbean! (I recommend renting a car to take full advantage of your Vieques vacation!)

What I loved was the style and easy relaxing feel. It had every amenity that we needed - the beds were snuggly. The views were breathtaking and nirvana is "chillin" in the hammock. House was very festive and I would definitely go back in a heartbeat. Loved investigating a new beach each day and dining out was one wonderful experience after another. This vacation destination is well worth the price and I would go back in a heartbeat!

We are a family of three and finding properties sized for a smaller family is often a challenge. A very thoughtfully designed house, La Solana was the perfect combination of bedrooms and living space. The highlight for us was the wide veranda with cooling breezes and spectacular views of the sea.

Our trip to Vieques and stay at La Solana was a unique experience. We are already planning our next stay there. La Solana is prettier than the picture- very clean and comfortable. We cooked dinner a couple of nights and the kitchen had everything we needed - it was like being at home. Virginia, Kelly and Gerri were all very helpful in helping me plan this trip as a surprise for my husband. The beaches are incredible, the people are nice, there is plenty to do on the island. I would definitely recommend this beautiful property which is not only very comfortable, but located conveniently to all the island has to offer.

La Solana in Vieques, Puerto Rico was the perfect place for my group of friends and I to get away, relax, and have a ton of fun on Spring Break. The house had great accommodations for all of us and offered a breathtaking view of the coast (although the house is not ON the water) from the balcony. The house is also within a 5 minute drive from one of the towns on the island, Isabel, and 15 minutes from the other town, Esperanza. Additionally, it is within 15 minutes from all of the beautiful beaches that Vieques offers. The beaches are public, but secluded and peaceful. As other vacationers have mentioned, the island is generally free of all chain hotels/restaurants and offers a unique vacation experience that allowed my entire group to have an amazing time. I highly recommend a trip to Vieques and a stay at La Solana.

My husband and I had the pleasure to be your guests at La Solana in Vieques, Puerto Rico. The guesthouse was beautifully outfitted, efficiently organized, and generously equipped for our comfort. The location is on a hillside overlooking two sides of the coastline of this unusually serene island. The immediate surroundings are private and peaceful within open spaced natural terrain. The large sunny veranda extends the indoors seamlessly. This island offers several large and gorgeous public beaches with perfect blue-green waters as well as a multitude of private hideaways, all reachable by car within less than an hour. We enjoyed the couple of small towns, different, but invitingly friendly. The island has up till now managed without the typical chain restaurants/hotels. The attraction is primarily the natural beauty and uniqueness of this quiet place.

"Breathtaking" is exactly the right word to describe your beautiful home! Vieques is probably how unspoiled the Caribbean was 30 years ago, but your house is sparkling clean, modern, and gracious. My favorite spot was on the huge deck overlooking the island, ocean, and Puerto Rico. I loved eating all of our meals there and swinging in the hammock watching the sunset. Really top of the line with great attention to every detail!

Vieques has to be one of the last islands left where the pace is unchanged. La Solona has a breathtaking view that encompasses the mainland of Puerto Rico and Magnificent sunsets. We loved the beaches.La Solona can handle two couples easy plus two teenage boys in the pullout sofa. We spent most of the time on the porch enjoying the view day and night. Horses run wild on the island so keep and eye out for them when driving.
