Carmela's flat in Trastevere was just as described. Three of us adults were able to stay comfortably. Carmela sent her friend Luca to pick us up at the airport, and he was extremely helpful, spoke perfect English and was very kind.Luca also came early in the morning to take us to the Termini. Carmela had provided some excellent wine and the special Easter bread which was delicious. The bathroom is modern and the kitchen too. The location of the flat is incredibly good. Trastevere is full of interesting places to eat and the tram stop as well as bus stop are very close to the flat.Carmela is very quick to respond via email.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children.

My wife and I are experienced budget-conscious travelers who were delighted with this Trastevere apartment. It easily reached on foot or tram or bus and set in a quiet upstairs corner of a charming courtyard on the interior of fine old building. The location is ideal for exploring and taking advantage of all Trastevere offers and Trastevere itself is a wonderful section of Rome, not overwhelmed with tourists, souvenir stands, and traffic like some areas. The owner's description and photos are all accurate and Carmela herself is very helpful, friendly, willing to go out of her way to meet your needs, and available for any questions. Large bed is super-comfortable, shower hot and strong, kitchen well equipped, living room spacious, coffee and olive oil and other amenities on hand. Great daily market around the corner and a large supermarket on Viale Trastevere in Oviesse dept store, smaller groceries also nearby, and plenty of fine restaurants at all price levels in the neighborhood. After hours of visiting the other grand sights in Rome, Trastevere and the apartment are an oasis to come back to. The Santa Maria church and piazza and nearby bars and restaurants are among the most pleasant in Rome with a true neighborhood feel. If arriving at the airport, a good way to reach Trastevere is the FM1 train to Trastevere rail station rather than an express train to chaotic Stazione Centrale across the river. Study up on all Trastevere has to offer.and make your choice. Would recommend to all friends and relatives. Ideal for two people and possibly also for small family.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway.

This is a correction to my review of the Ilaria. After reading what I wrote it sounded like it was not a safe area. What I meant to say was we felt extremely comfortable walking around at night. We also enjoyed the comfort of having a police station nearby and in fact, asked for directions there several times.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

Two women, ages 43 and 58 stayed in this lovely apartment for 6 nights in February 2013. We found it to be as advertised, clean, well-maintained and the perfect location for walking to many sights in Rome. The owner was very helpful and accomodating and even arranged for pickup from the airport. There are many nice restaurants nearby, also grocery stores and pasta shops. It was fun to live in a neighborhood and experience the ambiance of a Roman community. We felt safe at night walking around perhaps because there is a police station around the corner. We would highly recommend this apartment and hope to return sometime.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

My husband, 13 year old grandson, and I arrived in Rome by train and followed Carmela's directions to take Bus H to the Trastevere apartment. Our arrival was marred by an unfortunate incident--being pickpocketed as we boarded the bus! I would caution travelers to be especially aware of your personal items while in Rome, especially in crowded situations. It was embarrassing to discover how easy it is to let down one's guard while enjoying the wonders of this ancient city! Despite this unpleasant encounter, we made our way to the apartment in Trastevere where Carmela was waiting for us. She could not have been more understanding and supportive of our ragged nerves, after hearing our experience, and immediately took us under her wing. As soon as we entered the apartment, we knew our luck had improved for the better. Not only was the apartment exactly as described in the listing, it was clean and inviting and a lovely bottle of chianti wine awaited us [and later, Carmela dropped off a dolci as a special treat]. We felt most welcome indeed. The apartment was spacious and beautifully decorated, the beds were comfortable, and all in all, quite delightful. In addition to its desirable location convenient to shopping and public transportation, it also is quiet and safe due to the fact that it is entered from an interior off-street courtyard. The kitchen was well-equipped (delicious coffee!) with a small dining table that served us well at breakfast and snacks. My grandson had his own bedroom as did my husband and me. I recommend this lodging without reservation. And one of the nicest parts of it is meeting Carmela and having her personal attention during our stay. She even arranged for her son David to drive us to the airport the morning of our departure. Thank you Carmela for all you did to make our visit to Rome so positive an experience!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway.

We had a lovely stay in Trastevere at Ilaria House. The apartment is in a quiet neighborhood in Trastevere, with a fresh market close by. The renovation on the bath and kitchen is well done. Bus and tram service is easy to navigate around town. It was nice to have wi-fi service so we could stay in touch with friends and family at home. The kitchen is compact, but well equipped and we're able to make nice meals with the fresh, local ingredients available. The owner is very helpful and responsive. There is a nice trattoria/wine bar across the street at the next corner where we had a couple of very nice meals. The Passagiata Garibaldi, a short walk up the hill, or an easy bus ride (Bus 115) makes a nice place for a picnic overlooking the city. We're repeat customers for this apartment and would not hesitate to recommend it for a visit to Rome!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing.

The heart of Trastevere resides in the Ilaria House. From the grand entrance in the foyer to the charming decor of the apartment, it was easy to feel completely welcomed and 'at home'. My young adult daughter (age 20) and I were 100% satisfied with the geographical setting of the apartment, the quick response and support of Carmela and son, Davide, the friendly neighbors, the easy access to everything we might want or need, the beauty of the neighborhood. Planning a trip to Rome? Look no farther than this property!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

My sister and I recently returned from a trip to Italy where while in Rome we were blessed to stay here. It was exactly as the pictures reflect. We found our Landlord to be very helpfuland both pre-trip as well as during our trip. She met us there upon our arrival and spent much time helping us to become familiar with the apartment, including making us a pot of Italian coffee and giving us some basic tips on the neighborhood. She left us with a smile, a bottle of wine and the assurance we were to call if we needed anything. It was located in an area with access to many buses which was very helpful to us although some sites we visited did require some bus transfers. If there was anything that could have made it any better it would have been drinking our bottle of wine on the terrace. A terrace is the only thing it is missing. Thank you for a wonderful home away from home!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

We had the pleasure of spending two weeks at this apartment this past May, 2012. As first time travellers outside North America and first time VRBO users, we were a little hesitant about reserving an apartment and sending a deposit overseas for an apartment we knew very little about. We encountered no problems and would highly recommend this apartment to any traveller. Carmela arranged for Luka to pick us up at the airport and her son Davide to drop us off there after our stay. We found everything in the advertisement to be exactly as it says. In fact some of the pictures need to be updated as the place has been renovated since they were taken. The dishwaher, clothes washer and all other appliances worked perfectly. The place was immaculate and the bed was very comfortable.Upon arrival, Carmela had a bottle of red wine, bottled water, espresso, and pasta waiting for us. The location could not have been better. You can walk to any historic site within 35 minutes or less. You will spend seven or eight hours a day walking the historic streets of this fabulous city and wonder where the time went. No problem to find a restaurant or bar. Carmela even helped my wife find a Mother-of-the Groom dress for our son's upcoming wedding. We found the neighborhood to be very safe and had no problem walking around Rome well after dark. When going out after dark, simply use common sense as you would anywhere else. We found the people of Rome to be very helpful with things like directions. Again a final thank you to Carmela and especially Davide who drove us on a few occasions. He has a great sense of humor and speaks very good English. We will definitely return some day for anohter visit.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

What a wonderful little apartment. Just perfect. We stayed there for 5 weeks and didn't want to leave. Carmela has it set up perfectly and you couldn't find a more helpful and gracious landlady. The location is outstanding. A few minutes walk to the number 8 tram into town or the number 3 bus to Pyramide and on to the Colosseo, or an easy walk into town too. The daily markets in Piazza San Cosimato are just around the corner and the marvelous Santa Maria in Trastevere and it's piazza is 5 minutes walk. There are myriad terrific restaurants and several supermercatos and all kinds of shops in very easy reach. It is a short walk up the Gianicolo or the 115 bus goes up the street and on to the Vatican. The Tempietto is a stones throw away. We plan to stay here again!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway.
